Architecture Internships Abroad

As an economics student, I am deeply interested in understanding how rigorous modelling coupled with data-driven analysis can be used to effectuate economic and social change through guiding real-world decision-making. Over the last few years, I have increasingly recognised that unlocking the potential value that this discipline could bring hinges on whether one can discern which models and tools would be appropriate for the given context. To develop my capacity for making substantive judgements, I sought out The Intern Group to match me with a suitable organisation that would enable me to apply the skills and knowledge I've learnt from my time at university. The experience itself was highly challenging and intellectually stimulating; it forced me to think critically about what would constitute a useful deliverable for my partner organisation, in addition to how it should be presented to communicate my findings accessibly. In contrast to university coursework, which is generally evaluated in accordance with a well-defined set of criteria, I was granted the liberty to be creative in how I approached this project. Consequently, I had the chance to engage in divergent thinking and figure out for myself which ideas were feasible and worth developing. Although this strategy requires spending considerable time and energy before making any visible progress, it allowed me to identify the constraints imposed by the available data, understand the incentives faced by different stakeholders and consider what information decision-makers need to act effectively. Learning how to draw upon this framework in order to credibly and reliably inform decision-making within the global agricultural commodity trading market has inspired me to pursue further study and gain new experiences so that I may broaden my exposure while deepening and consolidating my skills and knowledge. I believe that this experience, supplemented by the developmental opportunities and resources offered by The Intern Group, has helped me to clarify my career path, reaffirm my understanding of how the discipline can yield practical insights and realise my own potential in contributing to real-world change.

My business development internship in Lisbon, Portugal, with Absolute Internship was an incredible experience that let me apply everything I'd learned in university to real business settings, from client outreach to strategy discussions. Beyond the professional growth, I fell in love with exploring Lisbon and traveling to other parts of Portugal, all alongside the amazing friends I made through the program. I am Amber, french student in international trade and I had a two-months internship at Korea GapYear. Thank you very much to Korea GapYear and to all the staff for allowing me to do my internship in Seoul as I really wanted to. They have been very nice and warm to me since the very first day and helped me integrate into korean life. They have been really understanding and allowed me to gain experience, knowledge and try new things during my internship. Thank you particularly to Olivia who was my tutor during this internship and who helped me not only with my work but with the preparation of my stay in Seoul and my integration into korean culture. They've been really open-minded as I came while I was fasting and that made me feel even more comfortable working with them. What was your funniest moment? I had such a great time with my environmental internship in Seoul! My internship experience in South Korea was really really great to the point that I was just enjoying every moment of my working hours together with my colleagues. Spending two months in Stockholm with Absolute Internship turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made for my career. My internship is going great! I am currently doing an IT internship in Seoul. Time does fly fast. I can’t believe my internship is already coming to an end but I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot of new things and I feel like my Korean language skills as well as my understanding of Korean culture have both significantly improved. My stay in Korea was amazing because of Korea Gap Year. From the first email, the entire staff at Korea Gap Year truly cares about providing you with the best experience possible. I had the privilege of having Bella coordinate my internship/Korean journey and she was fantastic in every way. The internship application process is more thorough than in similar programs meaning, your specific interests and needs are taken into consideration throughout the entire application process (I worked with other programs which were far more vague). In addition, after you are placed in an internship you get to select your housing from several options provided by Korea Gap Year. My housing location was great since it was very close to the subway and plenty of stores/restaurants. While in Korea Bella and Olivia would consistently check in on me and answer any questions I had regarding Korean living. Of course, my internship (in marketing) was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. My host company's staff were all very friendly even taking me out on several social activities. I cannot recommend Korea Gap Year enough and would suggest anyone still deciding to at least interview with them and I promise you will not be disappointed!

I had a wonderful time during my internship and greatly enjoyed the experience. I made significant improvements in my Spanish speaking abilities, and I am very grateful for the opportunity. I truly enjoyed my internship and am very thankful for the opportunity.

Personally, it helped me in being a more independent individual. It also helped me be more adaptive to a new environment. Professionally it helped me as a stronger asset in the work-force and working in a new country gave me tons of interpersonal skills.

I was in Seoul for about 8 weeks on an internship and it was an incredible experience that I definitely won’t be forgetting. My personal experience with my placement was great, the work I had to do was in a field I was interested in, my coworkers in the company were very nice and supportive and the overall work environment was great. There were multiple social events planned by Beyond every week and so these events as well as the free time I had on the weekends made it very easy to make the most of my time in South Korea. Overall this experience was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it.

As an economics graduate from Athens, I wanted to gain international experience before starting my career. GAC placed me with a business consultancy in Beijing, where I contributed to live market research projects for European clients looking to expand into Asia. My mentor guided me through every step — from data gathering to presenting findings to senior stakeholders. The GAC team made the entire process smooth: visa support, airport pickup, and a comfortable apartment in a central location. Weekly Mandarin lessons helped me navigate daily life with ease. After three months, I returned to Greece more confident, globally aware, and with a strong addition to my CV. I highly recommend this program to any young professional ready to grow.

Absolute Internship gave me an incredible opportunity this summer. For the first time, I was able to visit China and complete an eight week internship abroad in Shanghai. It was an incredible time where I was able to put past skills to use, all while gaining new ones. Additionally, Absolute had structured a great program with a strong balance of planned activities and free weekends to explore the city on one's own. Absolute hosted several day trips and two weekend trips, all with chaperones and busses that drove us to our locations. They planned activities for us, got our train tickets, and essentially made sure all we had to do was show up. It was amazing not to have to worry about details all while getting to see new places. One thing I absolutely loved was the housing Absolute chose to put my program in - we were in an apartment with our own rooms. Being able to come home to an empty room after a long day at work was incredible. I don't know if I would have been able to finish the program as happy as I did if I had to share a room the entire time, knowing I would've been incredibly burnt-out the entire time. It definitely wasn't the 'best' part of the internship, but it made it much better.

I interned in Bangkok at a law firm, I had a great relationship with my colleagues and they were very friendly and welcoming. The intern group was also great, they provided airport pickup and arranged weekly excursions for the inters, which were always exciting. I loved the city and the internship allowed me to see a side of Bangkok tourist usually don't get the opportunity to see. I loved the experience and would definitely do it again.

I had a 6 week, software engineering internship in Bangkok. The experience was great and well directed by the intern group, the accommodation was fantastic and the weekly excursions were very fun, the excursions allowed me to dive into the culture and explore Bangkok. My host organisation was an international real estate company, I worked in the business technology department and had a great experience, my colleagues and boss were very welcoming and communication wasn't an issue. Overall the experience was great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get experience. It has greatly improved my success when applying for jobs after graduation too.

As a management graduate from Poland, I wanted to see how business works in Asia. GAC placed me with a consulting firm in Beijing, where I worked on real market entry strategies for international clients. I was involved in client meetings, data analysis, and presentation preparation. My mentor was incredibly supportive and explained the nuances of Chinese business culture.
