It didn’t even feel like I left home (in a good way)

I was so worried about living abroad and my program was literally on the other side of the world. Somehow, someway, my company made me feel like I had been on the team the entire time. I was in office every day I could. The camaraderie between not just myself and my coworkers, but my boss as well. I don’t even think they were trying that hard. They are just fantastic people. Not to mention my company had regular events centered around interactions with each other. What a phenomenal group of people!

I had a great time in Sydney!! Our advisor, Andrea, made us all feel at home here and was extremely welcoming! I also felt my internship placement was a perfect fit. Throughout the program I was able to learn so much about my future career. Overall, I had a great experience in Sydney and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested!

Great experience interning abroad that I extend my stay 3 extra months!

I originally had a 3-month internship from February to April, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided to extend it for another 3 months! Sydney is an incredible location—there’s so much to do here, and honestly, 3 months just isn’t enough time to take it all in. My internship has been amazing. I love the work environment I’m in, and living at Scape has made the experience even better. The housing is centrally located with easy access to everything I need. Scape also hosts fun activities for residents, which made it easy to meet other exchange students. I had so much fun attending these events—and they’re either free or super affordable! The people in Australia are incredibly kind and welcoming. I highly recommend studying or interning abroad here—it’s been one of the best experiences of my life!

AIFS Sydney, Australia Internship Program

Being a part of the AIFS Sydney, Australia internship program has been an amazing experience! I got to meet so many new people and learn a lot about what it means to live in a different country. I initially chose Sydney due to its sights, and it definitely did not disappoint. Sydney was a very beautiful city to explore, and many of the coordinated events provided by AIFS reflected that. I also learned a lot of valuable lessons about my career path, about myself and what my future may look like with the help of this program. Overall, I would definitely recommend this program if you have any interest at all in interning in Australia.

After doing most of my internship in Australia I would have to say that it has been an amazing experience as I have been able to meet new people from all different backgrounds, make new friends, do amazing activities on the weekends, and learn a lot of new things from my internship the whole time I’ve been here.

Best decision ever!!

This experience has been such an incredible adventure! I feel like I am leaving more confident in my career and inspired in my personal life. AIFS did a wonderful job preparing me, and Andrea was a phenomenal program director once in Australia. Sydney itself was the best location choice for me. Since it was my first time abroad on my own, I wanted something that had a similar culture to home in the states. I never felt alienated here, but since it's so close to Asia, I got to experience plenty of cultural fusion which broadened my world view. If you're on the fence about studying or interning abroad in Sydney, I can say from experience that it did not disappoint.

It’s also been really great getting to know my AIFS intern group and explore Sydney. Overall I would recommend applying to the program :)

Australian summer

Over last summer I was fortunate enough to work for a tour company based out of Sydney, Australia. Not only did I make truly life long friends over this summer but I made so many memories in a completely new environment. My host company was fantastic and has even shifted the focus of my studies back at my home university. I wouldn’t trade the memories I made in Sydney for any other summer experience.

This internship was the chance of a lifetime. I got to gain so much knowledge about working in the real world and marketing side of things which was so helpful and eye opening for me. My living situation was amazing and something that changed my life forever. My roommates were amazing and the apartment we got to stay in was perfect. It was so safe and also so accommodatable. I loved being there and wouldn't have changed anything about my trip for the world. We were so close to so many great food and drink places and it was amazing just going to explore all over the city. We were able to go skydiving and on so many other adventures as well. This trip should be something that everyone gets the opportunity to go on and I would 1000% recommend.

Sydney with AIFS is Amazing!

The Sydney program with AIFS is fantastic; I would recommend it to everyone. I participated in their internship program in 2023 and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sydney is an extremely safe city with friendly people. Traveling is easy, and there are so many things to do in Sydney and Australia. Our Australian mom for the program, Andrea, is just as amazing and made the experience even better. As for the internship, I loved my experience working for the finance team in a non-profit. Also, the housing is very nice and in a great location.

AIFS internship in Sydney, Australia

I went abroad to Sydney, Australia for a three month internship with AIFS. AIFS helped me to find a company that would fit best with my work interest as well as found a great apartment for us. The location of the apartment was very central to my internship as well as close to public transport, making it easy to get around. My advisor, Andrea, was more than helpful throughout the whole process and made me feel comfortable and help adjust to the big change of being in a different country. There were a few trips planned throughout the program as well including a winery trip and a trip to the Royal National Park. It was cool to be able to meet people within the program and get to do activities together to have other people that are in the same boat as us being abroad. It was overall an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone!

Best decision I could've made! - Sydney Internship

Traveling to Sydney for an internship was the best next step for me both professionally and personally. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I'd do it over again in a heartbeat (I am even considering doing another program with AIFS). They check all the boxes, and all your needs are met. They provide you with insurance, housing, and all the interviews are set up for you. Realistically this was a great option to travel for a good price while being able to add experiences and skills to your resume. Before the interviews, they help you prepare by helping you make your resume professional for interviews and let you know the next steps you need to take. It was a very valuable experience that has helped me feel more confident in my professional life. We had amazing support in Sydney when we arrived from the on-site advisor. She was an amazing resource who assisted us with everything from navigating public transport to finding the nearest grocery store. She made sure we were prepared and checked up on us throughout our time here, which was really nice. Additionally, she ensured that our internships were going well and even vouched for us if necessary. My roommates and I felt so lucky to have had her support throughout our internships. This experience is a great way to make friends, explore a new country, and get some professional experiences!

Highly Recommend!

The program makes it easy to match you to an internship. Once on-site, your advisor checks in with you throughout about your internship. They also offer fun activities included in the program that allow you to see more of the city. On the other side, this program is on the pricier side and living in Sydney is expensive. The city is a great place to explore from the markets, beaches, and surfing to the surrounding national parks and wildlife, there is always something to do. One thing I wish was different about the internship placement process is the clarity in the roles/tasks of the internship specifically for the period you are interning for, where I noticed with mine as well as other interns that it was not what they expected in terms of the assigned roles. Overall, I had a great experience and would not trade it!

Interning in Sydney

I learned so much professionally and about myself during my internship in Sydney through AIFS and Global Experiences. My host company was super welcoming and a great placement for the kind of work I am interested in. I felt supported by AIFS through the whole application and pre-departure process. In Sydney, our onsite coordinator was super involved and always available to help. I found that there was a great balance between work and getting to explore as we had great AIFS excursions both in the city and to surrounding areas. Everyone we interacted with was flexible and accommodating to make sure we got a well rounded experience.

My internship experience through AIFS global experiences has been incredible. I found AIFS to be extremely supportive and informative. It would’ve been extremely difficult to find an internship abroad on my own. AIFS paired me with companies that aligned with both my academic studies and career goals. AIFS found me a place to live, set me up with health insurance, taught me how to use the transportation systems, taught me the cultural differences, and much more. AIFS also set up excursions around Australia the allowed us to bond with the other American interns in our cohort and enjoy different areas of Australia that we might have missed otherwise. It was different than study abroad because we gained unique work experiences that will better prepare us for the workforce. I would recommend this program to anyone in college, but especially to those who want to work internationally.

Amazing time down under!

I had an amazing time overall in Sydney, summer 2023, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to study or work abroad. The work mindset here in Sydney is very relax with a good mix of respect and responsibility from your coworkers and supervisors. Having the ability to work a few days a week and have time off for going out and about around the city is a plus. Most supervisors are very nice about letting interns take time off as we’re here for a short time. So, if you do come to Sydney I suggest doing as much as you can during the weekends at markets, museums, and the national parks outside the city. And maybe even visit other cities like Melbourne, Brisbane, and maybe even Tasmania like I did!

AIFS helped me through a bad intern experience.

I choose to go to Australia through AIFS because they were welcoming and committed from the start. I had no idea what to expect, but AIFS let me choose my location and field of interest, which was already better than other options. I loved my advisor and on site staff member. The first internship I had started was miserable and not a great fit at all. Sometimes not everyone is a match, which is not AIFS fault, they didn’t know. We all had high expectations that weren’t met, so they did everything they could to find me a new placement. The new placement was a perfect match and much better. I was so much happier and grateful for their help.
