As a Medicine & Healthcare intern you will gain a great deal of valuable work experience alongside some of the most skilled and inspirational doctors in the country. The facilities are generally of a good standard with many hospitals that are quite similar to those in the west. Interns work in city hospitals in Guadalajara. You will spend time working in departments such as gynecology, hematology, obstetrics, pediatrics, pathology, anesthesiology and surgery, with the opportunity to specialize if you wish. Program Highlights
If you wish to intern in Mexico with a physical therapist, nurse, midwife, or dentist then we have a number of internships where you can get some great observational experience.
You will be working in Guadalajara, but you could find yourself in a large hospital, a clinic, or even in an HIV center.
You will shadow one of our supervisors who are very experienced at working with western medical and healthcare students.
Outside of the hospital, you will live with a local host family who will provide you with all your meals outside of your normal working hours.
When you aren't at work, there is plenty to do in Guadalajara, and our lively, diverse volunteer and intern community means there are always other volunteers around to make friends with.

Right from when the plane landed i was welcomed into Mexico. My host family was extremely caring and made me feel safe and taught me a lot about daily life and culture in Mexico. My placement at the hospital exceeded my expectations, It was very hands on and the doctors were very keen to have students and taught me a lot. They encourage you to get close up and put you in the best spot to see everything that is happening whilst explaining. I had the opportunity to spend most of my time in my fields of interest in obstetrics and paediatrics. The Projects Abroad team organised weekly social outings including salsa dancing classes, museum tours and more. I made memories on this trip that I will never forget and have learned so much not just academically but social and cultural knowledge as well, by the end I almost felt like a local.

Traveling is an important part of my life that allows me to experience other cultures, gain new knowledge, learn some new skills, and meet different people. There is something special about spending an extended period of time in another country and living like the locals live. As someone who is studying abroad, you are placing yourself in their shoes and discovering the unique differences in behavior that come with growing up in a country other than your home country. It is beautiful to see these people interact with one another and to interact with them yourself, all the while appreciating how different this is from what you are used to but understanding that these actions are normal in their country. This is not to say that the foreign country's locals are going to make you uncomfortable or disrespect you, but it is interesting to find the differences (big or small) in cultures.
