A new experience
April 17, 2023by: AndrewProgram: Building in Nepal with Projects AbroadFrom the day I arrived I was swept away with the hustle and bustle of the city of Kathmandu. Coming from a small farming village in the UK I had never been in such a busy and chaotic environment. I remember walking around the streets being scared of where to walk as motorbikes and cars fly past. Even with this new environment it became the norm in only a few hours. I made it my goal to immerse myself in my surroundings and I made it a challenge to fine all the best coffee shops and bars thamel has to offer. My host family was in Lalitpur. This is starkly different to Thamel. It had the same busy feel but it was only locals no tourists. This allowed myself and the other volunteers to live like the local people. Shop at the same shops and grab a coffee shoulder to shoulder with the people we shared the local area with. Projects abroad staff would keep in contact with us everyday, at times dropping everything to ensure we were comfortable and our questions or queries were answered. Not only did the staff sacrifice time and resources to help us but they became our friends. Having the back bone to rely on when in such a new environment helped shine my way through my time in Nepal. I came to Nepal to learn about the culture, to learn the language and to give my labour to the local community. The building projects was rewarding. Every brick laid every shovel of concrete turned was the starting point for a child’s education. At times the work was tedious and tiring but everyday ending with the satisfaction that you are being a massive help to the children and teachers will make you what to come back for more. I want to say a massive thank you to the projects abroad team, Bibek, Bhawani, Rajesh. I wish to see you all again soon.

Fantastic
August 10, 2022by: MatthewProgram: Building in Nepal with Projects AbroadWhen I first got here everything seemed so bizarre. new faces, New places, and every turn down a road felt like a whole new world. Eventually tho Nepal became my second home full of kind and generous people at every turn, and I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything
