Program Highlights

Most volunteers in Nepal stay with a local host family, and those volunteering on a teaching project are likely to find themselves living very close to the school they teach at.

Living in such a close-knit community will allow you to learn a great deal about typical Nepali life and will greatly enhance your experience of the country.

You will rapidly feel like an integrated part of the local community, although you are sure to stand out from the crowd and may find yourself treated as something of a local celebrity!

Although your main role will be to teach English you may find that you also want to help out by coaching the soccer team or setting up an art club at lunchtime.

The impact you have on your students will be obvious, but you will also be part of a much larger network of volunteers, which is making a positive and ongoing contribution to the wider community.

What a wonderful experience I had in Nepal. The guidance from Projects Abroad was excellent. It was very nice that they welcomed me upon arrival and accompanied me to the host family and the school in Kathmandu. The employees, teachers and children are so grateful that you want to think and work with them to optimize education and guidance. I felt so welcome at the school. I am still in touch with them. The host family makes you feel immediately at home in their home. Always willing to provide you with information and suggestions for excursions. You will also gain more insight into daily life in Nepal. I also really enjoyed my fellow residents in the host family. The employees of Projects Abroad are easily accessible. The fact that support was also provided in planning domestic trips was an unexpected but very welcome surprise. This is an experience that I wish for everyone. Participating in a project makes it possible to become a world citizen. I would recommend everyone to experience this.

This project has been absolutely amazing and i loved every minute of it. Bibek, our coordinator, was always kind and welcoming, and always ready to fulfill anything we had to ask for and always there when we needed him for medical or personal reasons and was always flexible. The entire staff was amazing, everyone very patient and comprehensive. I stayed at the Yadav Host Family and I loved the family that cooked for us delicious meals everyday, took care of us and had fun with us. The work was perfect, ten days of building and ten of teaching were the perfect balance, and we felt welcome in both locations. Amazing experience thanks to all of the staff members and the host family.
