Our office is based in the bustling city of Kathmandu - a city full of jostling crowds, rickety ox carts, and noisy auto-rickshaws. Most of our volunteer placements are located here too, although some are located in more rural areas of the Kathmandu valley. We also have some medical projects based in the lowlands area of Chitwan. Volunteers in Nepal live with host families. Some families welcome up to four volunteers into their home, and you'll usually share a room with one other volunteer. Program Highlights
Nepal is a breath-taking country with many fantastic opportunities to volunteer or intern within its borders. Projects are available for anyone interested in volunteering in the developing world.
Kathmandu is transforming into a vibrant, more modern metropolis. Western influences mean that you will certainly see modern-looking businessmen or even monks chatting on cell phones
There are places to go white-water rafting in the foaming glacial rivers and the mountainous terrain is perfect for those seeking extreme mountain biking, climbing, or trekking activities.
Who wouldn't relish the unforgettable experience of hiking in the foothills of Mount Everest or going on an adventure trek through the jungle in Chitwan National Park?

Fantastic experience
December 10, 2024by: Allan BoroughsProgram: Projects Abroad in NepalHaving recently retired I was new to overseas volunteering - Projects Abroad were extremely well organised and very attentive to details to make this a truly life changing experience. The opportunity to teach so many wonderful children and to meet their teachers is an opportunity not to be missed. I highly recommend Projects Abroad
Hard work but Great fun
November 20, 2023by: Ailish Scanlon Program: Projects Abroad in NepalMeandering through the narrow streets of Katmandu on my way to my placement I wondered if I was totally mad and would I survive this city of chaos. Once I met Bhavani, our project leader, I totally relaxed. She was an excellent leader and explained everything I needed to know. She anticipated a lot of my questions and I felt at home. When we got into the school to do our painting we were made feel very welcome. I cannot describe how beautiful each and every child is. The second week we assisted teachers and enjoyed every minute with these amazing children.

Thanks for sharing your experience in Nepal, Ailish. We're pleased to read that Bhavani made you feel relaxed and at home. We appreciate your nine star review — we'd love to learn if there was more we could have done to make this ten star for you (and potentially, our future participants). Please contact us on info@projects-abroad.co.uk if you'd like to continue this conversation. Thanks for choosing Projects Abroad!

September 23, 2023by: LucreziaProgram: Projects Abroad in NepalMy experience with children (from 1 to 7 years old) was very impactful for me: on an emotional and physical level. Maybe I wasn't really ready to live in a condition of poverty, I didn't have all the fundamental information to best face the experience. I mean my help was probably limited compared to what I could have given them (children and my wonderful nurturing family). It was an enriching but very hard experience on a personal level for me.
