Internships in Nepal are based in and around Kathmandu and in the region of Chitwan. The facilities are generally quite basic when compared to facilities in the West. You will intern on social and health development projects focusing on providing medicine and healthcare to the underprivileged. This is a particularly important service in a country such as Nepal where the National Health System provides for only 21 percent of the population. Interns work at a variety of placements in hospitals and rehabilitation centers for children with disabilities in the Kathmandu Valley. This can involve a unique combination of worki...
Program Highlights
Live with a local host family who provides you with all your meals outside of normal working hours.
Keep occupied with plenty of fun things to do in Kathmandu and nearby Patan when you’re not volunteering: art, temples, architecture, bars, and cinemas.
Enjoy hiking or cycling in the surrounding area or take part in a number of adventure sports.
Visit our office in Kathmandu—where jostling crowds, rickety bullock carts, and noisy auto-rickshaws all contribute to the noise, character, and constant energy of its traditionally narrow streets.
Prepare for a challenging career in the medical and healthcare industries with an internship that involves hands-on work.

Most amazing & meaning life-changing experience
January 07, 2025by: SonamProgram: Medical Experience in Nepal with Projects AbroadI had an amazing time doing Medical Internship in Nepal for two weeks Everyone is so amazing !! The host families are very friendly, caring, supportive and kind. They made it feel like home. I love the food that my host families made, so yummy and delicious. They are awesome people. I also had a wonderful time volunteering at Alka Hospital. I had a great opportunity shadowing doctors in various departments and the doctors are very skillful and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching. I learned so much from them and I had an invaluable hands-on experience. Everyone including doctors, nurses, health assistant, administrators, ambulance drivers, and other hospital staffs are very welcoming, friendly, and supportive. I had an incredible time there. I am very glad that I chose to volunteer at Kathmandu Location. Thank you so much for the most amazing and meaningful life changing experience. I also had a fabulous time volunteering at Outreach program with school children, teachers, principles, program abroad coordinator, and other volunteers. It was a beautiful and memorable experience. I would highly recommend everyone to volunteer at the Kathmandu Location. Thank you so much for making this wonderful Projects Abroad Program and it is absolutely life changing experience. I am sure everyone who is looking to volunteer will have an amazing and positive impact in life.
An unforgettable two weeks, both educational and enjoyable
July 30, 2024by: SaanviProgram: Medical Experience in Nepal with Projects AbroadGoing to Nepal on the High School Specials Medicine trip was one of the best decisions I have made. The staff's coordination ensures everything runs smoothly. They will do whatever they can to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. You get your SIM cards and money changed the day after you arrive. Visiting the hospitals was very educational, and a good way to become more familiar with the medical field. In CMC, more freedom is given to volunteers to visit departments of their choice. The doctors are all helpful and willing to answer questions and explain the conditions of patients in the wards as long as we took the initiative to ask them about their work. The other two hospitals we visited, a doctor or nurse showed us around and explained their work, which was also very good. There are cultural and medical programs in the evenings to ensure that the volunteers gain the most from their experience, but there is also plenty of time to relax and prepare for the next day. The Projects Abroad staff in Chitwan become parental figures for the ten days that you spend there, and they constantly checked up on us and asked for feedback. We never felt any hesitation asking for even the smallest of things and they are free to be contacted 24/7. The hotel staff are just also very kind and everything: wifi, water, a variety of food, hot water and working air conditioning is provided. Kathmandu's hotel is also quite good, however some rooms may not have a working air conditioning or a fan, though since the Kathmandu stay is just a few days or nights, it isn't too big of an issue, and upon request, they can fix or change your room if there are vacancies available. The volunteers you meet, especially your roommates, will quickly become your close friends, and you never feel lonely; there's time to swim and to relax and to explore. The relationship you build together is a special one, and everyone becomes like a second family. The two weeks pass by almost too-quickly and by the end it's a core memory.
My Projects Abroad medical internship was worth it...
March 18, 2023by: Oren Petersen - AustraliaProgram: Medical Experience in Nepal with Projects AbroadMy 'Projects Abroad Medical Internship for Teenagers’ was a fantastic experience, along with 19 other young people from around Australia, New Zealand and Japan we participated in a supervised daily schedule of activities focusing on learning and cultural exposure. My goals were to have some clinical exposure, travel overseas to a developing country independently from my family, put myself outside my comfort zone, experience a different culture and to complete my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential Program. It was also a great way of meeting other young people from different backgrounds. The whole experience was worth it, well organised, and supported
