Working with disadvantaged children in Córdoba

I had a very enjoyable time in Argentina with Projects Abroad. The staff I met there were all very friendly and helpful (Guillermo, Ines and Augustina). The host family (Silvia) I stayed with was lovely, really welcoming. The food was tasty and nutritious. Silvia doesn't speak any English so communication was sometimes a challenge, but we managed with a bit of help from Google translate! A point of clarification, the children are not from orphanages. The care centres (or "Cradle Rooms") are for socially vulnerable families and are provided by the government. The children there are all very sweet and, after a little initial shyness, will want to involve you in all of their games. Be prepared to catch a lot of little ones coming down the slide, run around the garden, and blow a lot of noses! You will need to be quite assertive with regards to running activities on this project, don't be shy! Ask what the learning themes are for the week and ask to run something that ties in. Depending on the season when you're visiting, bring clothes that can be layered! Winter is quite cold at night and early in the morning. The houses don't have central heating and are designed to keep the heat out in the summer, which also means they don't retain heat in the winter either! Definitely bring US dollars with you and change them in town during your induction.
