Join GoEco on the tropical, southern coast of Sri Lanka to help break down barriers to women's education! In Sri Lanka, women, unfortunately, have a disadvantage when it comes to receiving a high-level education. This then prevents them from being as employable as men. This program was created to break down that barrier and to give women the education that they need to become both empowered and more employable. Volunteers on this program will work with women from middle-class and lower-class families, mostly from the Muslim community. Volunteers will focus on helping these women enhance their English language speaking skills. Classes take place in the afternoon, so volunteers can relax in the mornings or can choose to teach at a kindergarten or Buddhist monastery.

Visit three different continents in a single program, traversing South Africa, Peru, and Sri Lanka. This 8-month adventure starts in the Kruger area where you'll engage in wildlife conservation efforts to protect Africa's iconic Big 5 (lion, tiger, elephants, rhinos, and buffalos). Next, you will transition to False Bay where you will contribute work in a marine research center helping towards underwater conservation. The third pit stop is in Peru where you will help plant trees, discover sustainable farming methods, and support local communities in protecting their environment. The last stop is an internship in Sri Lanka, where you will help conserve the endangered turtle species’ nesting sites and monitor turtle activities along Sri Lanka’s beautiful coastline. Prices are very cheap, the locals are friendly, and it’s also easy to get around. Being a small island, most things are never too far away. Sri Lanka is also known for its scenic train rides, particularly around the Kandy area. Get involved in Sri Lanka… Test yourself and expand your awareness… Do something you’ll never forget. We have three destinations in Sri Lanka, although most projects are situated in the Kandy area. Kandy is known as the cultural capital, with incredible hillside scenery, warm hospitality, dance shows, tea plantations, and green rolling hills. Ambalangoda has a relaxed beach vibe and is close to the pretty town of Galle, in the South, where the turtle conservation project lives. Hanguranketha is about 1 hour from Kandy and even deeper into the hill country.

Under the Teaching Volunteer Program in Sri Lanka, you will have the opportunity to work in government, primary, and public schools in and around the beautiful town of Kitulgala and Hatton in the central region. Volunteers focus mainly on children aged 6-14 years old, teaching typical subjects like Japanese and English (conversational and written) General Knowledge. They help students improve their vocabulary and spoken language skills, which are highly important in getting good jobs in Japan and English-speaking countries. Specific responsibilities include: - Assist the teachers to provide low-cost teaching materials and fun for the children. - Teach Conversational Japanese/English to students. - Assist in other general areas of teaching. - Share new ideas with the students and exchange views on different topics. - Create a playful environment and enhance the children's creativity through painting, playing games, singing, and other activities. Volunteers work 4-5 hours a day within a five-day workweek.
