Join GoEco on the tropical, southern coast of Sri Lanka to help break down barriers to women's education! In Sri Lanka, women, unfortunately, have a disadvantage when it comes to receiving a high-level education. This then prevents them from being as employable as men. This program was created to break down that barrier and to give women the education that they need to become both empowered and more employable. Volunteers on this program will work with women from middle-class and lower-class families, mostly from the Muslim community. Volunteers will focus on helping these women enhance their English language speaking skills. Classes take place in the afternoon, so volunteers can relax in the mornings or can choose to teach at a kindergarten or Buddhist monastery.

August 07, 2019by: Michelle FellowsProgram: Sri Lanka - Women’s English Literacy ProgramConnecting with the other volunteers and local students I worked with...plus the excursions the volunteer team coordinated for us, they were great! It would be very helpful to send a packing list to volunteers going to Sri Lanka. Things I unexpectedly found very helpful while there were: flip flops (you will wear these nearly everywhere...including the shower), antibiotic cream, and a travel towel.
