Popular Degree Focus
College degrees in Spain cover almost every major, so whatever your area of interest you'll be able to find a place to complete your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Spain. A Bachelor’s in Spain degree will take about 3-years of full-time study, and a Master’s in Spain degree will require at least 12 months.
Spanish Language. While you are studying in Spain, consider taking advantage of your cultural immersion and international setting by pursuing a degree in Spanish Language and Culture or European Studies.
Business. Madrid and Barcelona, being centers of European government and commerce, there are multiple opportunities to soak it all in through earning a Bachelor in Business in Spain. Living on a Student Budget in Spain
EU-students are able to pursue degrees in Spain for free by enrolling in a Spanish university. Even if you have to pay tuition, the undergraduate fees at public universities in Spain for international students are reasonable, costing anywhere between 680-1,280 Euros per year. To be considered for scholarships in Spain for foreign students, don’t forget to plan in advance to apply. Strong Spanish language skills will likely be required to be successful here, but some institutions do offer classes in English. Another option is to attend an American university in Spain, such as Saint Louis University or NYU which both have campuses in Madrid.
Accommodations & Visas
Many international students choose to live in student dormitories to immerse themselves in university life and make friends with Spanish and other international students. Later in their degree program, students may want to live in an apartment. Obviously, housing costs vary greatly by location but expect costs of independent living to generally be less expensive outside of the major cities.
International students will also need to organize a student visa in order to attend degree programs in Spain. Visa applications will usually require students to produce a criminal background check to gain permission for an extended stay, and students will also need to exchange their visa for a residency permit upon arrival. Most host universities or degree programs in Spain will help guide students through the visa process. Check out GoAbroad’s Embassy Directory for more information.

My Experience Getting a Master's Degree With UAH Teach & Learn Program
July 23, 2026by: Storm, Sophia Sophia Storm - United StatesI am so thankful for my experience at Instituto Franklin-UAH. I graduated with a master's degree in ESL and Bilingual education in 2025. I would like to highlight a very special person, Iulia, who not only helped me succeed in the program as a young single mom, but who also helped me navigate some very difficult circumstances while far away from home. She did not hesitate to become an important part of our support system. I truly do not know where we would be today without her!
Amazing if you want a Masters but also want to learn spanish
November 26, 2025by: Tallulah O’Hanlon - United KingdomProgram: Master's Degree in Business Administration and Spanish
I’ve been here for a term now and I’ve had such a great time. The classes are small and intimate, and you get hands on experience with teachers who are experts in their field (I am in a class of 4 students), whilst also having 1 hour and 40 minutes of Spanish classes everyday! It’s a great opportunity to learn Spanish whilst also getting a Masters in Business Administration. There are no courses like this!

I had an amazing time, truly a time in my life I will always cherish. I was able to call a new place home, meet so many new people who I made lifelong friendships with and created memories I will forever remember. I also grew as a person by navigating a new environment completely on my own, finding myself away from environments I am used to and explored new places that taught me so much.
Venezuela to Barcelona, a life changing experience
March 11, 2025by: Sofia Cubero Facciuto - VenezuelaProgram: Study Abroad at UAB: Business Management Across Europe
Studying in Barcelona has been an incredible journey of growth and discovery. Leaving Venezuela at 18 was a big challenge, but this city has given me independence, new friendships, and amazing experiences. Adapting to a new culture wasn’t easy at first, but now I love the Mediterranean lifestyle, my studies in international business, and my job as a media manager. From running by the beach to weekend adventures, every day here teaches me something new. Studying abroad is challenging but so worth it—it’s an experience that changes you forever!

The maximumu expression of an international degree!
January 12, 2022by: Sean Stringer - United KingdomProgram: Study Abroad at UAB: Business Management Across Europe
I had always dreamt about studying abroad, when I saw the opportunity of a Bachelor's Degree where I could take each year in a different country I thought that it would be the perfect programme for me and it actually was. The experience of being part of an international group with students from all nationalities was incredible. Throughout the BME programme I have learnt priceless life lessons, mastered adaptability, and gained contacts from all over the world. Also, it has been very fascinating to experience different teaching methods and to learn about different cultures.
Unforgettable, valuable , and unique experience
November 22, 2020by: Gabriele Johnson - United StatesThe Teach and Learn in Spain program granted me the freedom to travel, practice Spanish, and earn a Master's Degree in my desired field of study for an extremely low cost and high reward. This degree gave me the ability to teach Spanish at a notable private school in upstate New York. It has also taken me to China where I teach bilingual STEM and Science courses each summer. Most recently, it was my academic achievements at UAH that transferred to NYU where I will be continuing my studies in Speech-Langauge Pathology this coming semester. Although UAH handed us some, admittedly annoying, challenges, such as working out communication and travel flaws between the university and our school placements and finding accommodation, I wouldn't trade it for the world- in hind-sight. Also, be advised that the diploma and transcripts do take several months to receive! I give this program an overall 9/10 because the faculty are some of the most enjoyable, helpful, and understanding people you will meet. Your fellow classmates will become life-long friends. It is guaranteed that your experience living, working, and teaching in Spain will be at the top of your most rewarding career choices you will make.
Knowledge and diversity in Europe
June 04, 2020by: Mekki Lahlou - MoroccoProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
Getting an American degree from one of the top 100’s universities in US while you are living the European diversity is only available in Saint Louis University Madrid Campus. Since the factuality ratio is less than 16, you have the chance to have enough office hours with teachers and tutors until you master your lessons. Plus, the student life in Madrid is really exceptional because Spanish people are wonderful and they welcome all kinds of people.

Great life changing experience
June 03, 2020by: Maycie Rosado - United StatesProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
Attending a university in central Madrid is life changing and has many benefits, but attending an US accredited university abroad such as Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus is even better! On and off campus, everyday I experience a multicultural environment. Students are from around the world and my professors are as well. Having this diversity brings many great conversations to the table and allows all of us to learn from each other and make a connection. I have met so many people in my major that have given me a different outlook on things because of our diversity and interest to learn from each other. The campus staff are welcoming and helpful and the facilities are accommodating. I would recommend attending or studying abroad at this university because Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus has so much to offer.
International education teach and learn program
December 19, 2019by: Marilu Bonilla - United StatesInstituto Franklin offered various options to make tuition cost feasible, offered a major in the field I was interested in and the opportunity to continue teaching English while still studying. The staff was also very responsive and made the application process run smoothly. Yet, like any program some courses are more interesting/challenging than others but overall completing the Master’s program was pivotal towards my decision in making the transition out of the classroom to the area of international education. It reassured me that working with international students and/or students’ wanting to go abroad was what I wanted to do. Also, I feel it was a good addition to my resume, after moving back to California from Spain I was able to land a job shortly after.
Amazing option for college!
July 03, 2019by: Katelin Huber - United StatesProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
Overall the school is quite good. The business professors are professionals with years of experience, and the course work is challenging. They offer many opportunities to get hands on experience in the business field outside of the classroom. Campus lacks in club presence, but it is not your traditional campus. If you're looking to learn Spanish, go outside your comfort zone, and be fully immersed in a new culture, then I highly recommend this school! One of the best decisions of my life was moving to Madrid and studying here.
Madrid is my campus!
October 19, 2018by: Eleonora Colzani - ItalyProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
SLU-Madrid offers its students not only the opportunity to get an American degree in Spain, but also the opportunity to meet people from more than 60 different nationalities on campus. Moreover, Madrid is a great city for students, with affordable prices and tons of cultural and fun events. After almost 4 years here, I can't picture myself in any other university or program. No Spain No again!!
A wonderful time in Barcelona
August 07, 2018by: Lars Sabini - United StatesProgram: Master in Culinary Arts in Barcelona
I was looking for a cooking school that allowed you to actually participate in the preparation, cooking, and eating of the meals but having into account that I am already a cook I just wanted to make my way up to chef of a restaurant and here I learned everything I needed in terms of confidence, skills and current market. My Dad found this place and saw the abundance of classes offered and knew I'd find something here. The Master was absolute amazing from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed so much everything I learnt there. Now I can say thanks so much to have this great Master that allowed me to be a true competitor in this world to be the best chef ever in my town and open my own restaurant!
A Spaniard in the American system
October 02, 2017by: C. Rodríguez - SpainProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
As a Spaniard that always have been studying in the Spanish System of Education, I can say that the American System of Education offers a range of skills completely different but very useful for our professional career. Without any doubt, coming to SLU-Madrid is one of the best choices I could have ever made!
Culturally dynamic
July 24, 2017by: Anna Bohren - SpainProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
I enjoy SLU-Madrid because I was given the chance to immerse myself in other cultures whilst still studying "the American Way" making my experience a lot more comfortable. While the campus has many Americans, it´s easy to find foreign friends and a good sum of the students speak more than just English and Spanish.
So happy with my decision
April 04, 2017by: SLU Permanent Student - SpainProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
I love everything about this place. I came here not sure what to expect, or how long I would stay, but after one year I can't imagine myself attending university anywhere. Initially I was worried about being so far away from home but I have made great friends and have been exposed to many cultures and also learned a lot about myself living here. I love the small class sizes because I am able to have a more personalized experience and the teachers here know me by name. The staff and faculty at this University truly care about your well being and are very welcoming. I have never felt unsafe in this city and it's an amazing place to study abroad. The buildings are colourful and lined with cobblestone roads and there are so many cafes around the city to sit outside for a coffee or to do homework! For those who like exploring there a lot of museums throughout the city. It's also very easy to travel throughout Europe. There is a great social night life in Madrid and always something to do here! To anyone who is consider coming to SLU - Madrid, my advice is to do it!
SLU-Madrid
February 17, 2017by: anonymous - United StatesProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
Before deciding to become a permanent student at SLU-Madrid, I had never visited the school, been to Madrid, or even to Spain. I was basing my decision largely on the opportunity I perceived, as well as on the students I had emailed with questions, and the staff I´d contacted while applying and confirming my attendance. Now, having been here for almost a full year, I can say that the opportunity I thought I was taking is much greater and more valuable than I imagined, and the people are just as knowledgeable and welcoming in person. Being immersed in a new country, a new language, and a new lifestyle is more exciting, challenging, enjoyable, and most importantly educational than I could´ve hoped for. The people I have met and experiences I have had (in Madrid, in class, and while traveling) are all so unique. I know I´m making great memories, learning invaluable lessons about culture and communication, and of course working towards my degree. The people I contacted via email and phone call before coming here are just as welcoming in person, if not more so. Students, faculty, and staff are invested in you, in your story, and in your success. All the students here have done something a little out of the ordinary by choosing to attend SLU Madrid, whether that is leaving their home country, attending an American university, or both. This common thread of being a little different creates such a welcoming community. In addition to the students, I've had great professors; the faculty here is diverse, dedicated, and extremely competent in their fields. Because the school is fairly small, all my classes have allowed me to get personalized help, both in class and during office hours. Any question I have asked has been answered; my professors know who I am. Choosing to study abroad, not just for a semester but for 4 years, at SLU-Madrid has been one of the greatest decisions I have made for my present and for my future.
Living in Madrid
February 16, 2017by: Livia - SpainProgram: Study Abroad at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus
Coming to SLU Madrid has been and still is an awesome experience. I was not expecting to encounter people from so many different cultures and for them to be so open. Not only does the university offer a great learning experience but the student body itself develops it even further. I think Madrid is a very nice city to study in because of how many different things you can do here, from tapas to museums to parks it is filled with things that have made this experience abroad feel like home. In fact, I do not consider myself as studying abroad, after only 2 years I can already call Madrid my home and this is thanks to the university which promotes different learning experiences and makes you feel like part of a big family and community that is SLU. Can't wait for the next 2 years to come.
