Join us and become a part of the laid-back and friendly community of Moshi in Northern Tanzania just at the foot of the monumental Kilimanjaro! With up to ten other international volunteers you will teach English to children, teachers and other community leaders, encourage and support women’s empowerment and work alongside HIV/AIDS organizations to help raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Volunteers will sing, dance, play and help the children to develop their creative skills through the mediums of drawing, coloring and painting. You will help with the schools’ general maintenance to provide a pleasant learning environment for its students. You will work among our many different projects. We are looking for passionate graduates, who are keen to learn about global challenges, work with youth and define their own purpose. After an initial period of training, you will be placed in one of our overseas hubs as a Group Mentor and Project Implementor, you will be supporting our in-country team through coordinating group projects and supporting our project participants on their journey to becoming global citizens. Program Description (Empower Through Education Program) The Empower Through Education Program is a new initiative by Bring Hope for Children Tanzania (BHCT), based in Mwanza, Tanzania. This program is dedicated to enhancing academic performance among children through targeted instruction in English and key subjects, including Mathematics, Science, and Civic Education. Targeting primary and lower secondary students in underprivileged communities, the program offers free after-school and weekend learning sessions. It is especially designed to support children who are struggling academically or lack access to quality learning environments. Through interactive lessons, trained local tutors and volunteers help improve students’ language fluency, comprehension, and core academic skills. The goal is to increase students’ confidence, improve their school results, and foster a stronger learning culture within their families and communities.

Afroplan is a day care center founded in 2012 to help women and children aged 3 to 6. This wonderful day care center where children from the poorest families from Usa River can come to learn basic math, science, grammar, Swahili and English. In addition, it is a place where these children can stay safe and supervised while their family or guardians earn an income. Supporting women economically is another goal as women are generally paid much less than men. This project offers women jobs to earn a higher income, which in turn helps their families escape poverty. Although there are currently only 3-5 women working at Afroplan, we all hope to grow this project to empower a generation of women in the Usa River. All volunteers and interns have the opportunity to impart a basic knowledge base that will accompany them on their journey. To this end, various subjects are taught at the facility, like English or Mathematics. They also help with homework supervision. In doing so, they support the children and respond to their individual needs. Mission: To free children from poverty, hunger, lack of education, and poor health care for their future.

The special needs project in Tanzania is a great way for compassionate, caring individuals to support disabled children across the country. Volunteers are expected to assist professionals in the centers or work first-hand with kids who have learning and physical disabilities, deaf or mute, Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy. This program welcomes everyone, particularly individuals with medical or professional backgrounds in special needs care. Tanzania has long been faced with challenges such as the lack of trained staff, a negative cultural perception toward disabilities, and the lack of relevant information and training for various special needs cases. The project involves caring for children and catering to their needs and wants in accordance with their disabilities, playing with and caring for them, assisting professionals and staff based on their action plans, cooking, and cleaning. Participation in any of these activities depends on how comfortable you are with tending to the task provided. If you feel uncomfortable with a task, it is okay to be substituted by a staff member. Volunteers are asked to give a direct contribution of $100 to the center.
