Tanzania is a prime example of what most people expect when they think about Africa. The endless wilderness of the national parks with a vast variety of wild animals in their natural surroundings, the exotic and colorful Maasai culture and mountaintops from where you feel like you could see the edges of the world. And although all these romantic ideas of endless landscapes and wild animals are true, there is so much more to discover when you volunteer in Tanzania. There are plenty advantages of being a volunteer in Tanzania in comparison to just traveling the country as a tourist. There is no better way to really get to know the culture and the people of a country than to become a part of the society by offering a helping hand. Benefit from exceptional encounters with new people and take a chance to explore Tanzania with the eyes of an insider.

Give a Heart To Africa (GHTA) is a women's empowerment project located in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. Our mission is to empower local women through education and entrepreneurship. We offer free education in English, business, and vocational skills for one year. Upon graduation, we assist some of the women with starting a small business. All subjects are taught by international volunteers and translated by former graduates. No prior teaching experience is required as we have detailed lesson plans in place. Every Friday, we visit one of our students in their home, meet their family, and share a meal and stories. This provides for a wonderful cultural exchange and an opportunity for us to get to know each other better. We are a volunteer-run organization; we do not have any paid staff in the West or an office to support our work. Without volunteers, our organization would not exist, so we highly appreciate your help.

This volunteer program by KVT places you in Tanzania, where you will work in an orphanage and assist in the care of kids and teens. They have lost their parents due to various reasons, including accidents and deadly diseases (i.e., HIV/AIDS). The orphanage is located within a local community, and you will help with daily activities as well as educate widows, youth, and people living with HIV/AIDS. You will contribute to our efforts in educating locals on how to take care of themselves. Together with other volunteers, you will also visit homes and teach households – especially those dealing with HIV/AIDS – about health issues. If you are caring, motivated, and open-minded, you will fit into our team perfectly.
