In exchange for a clean and comfortable room and full board, all you have to do is share your native language with your hosts for 15 hours per week. Volunteering with Cats in Barcelona

Barcelona is a city where the option to euthanize rejected animals has been banned for over ten years. The outcome of this is that many shelters and sanctuaries are completely oversubscribed. They are desperately looking for lively volunteers to help cuddle and care for the cats. This is to ensure that these loving animals have a high quality of life before they can be re-homed. Tasks include: - Socializing the animals in the play area - Feeding - Cleaning You'll be staying in a modern eco hostel between the airport and the city center. A 2-hour tour of the city is also included on day 1. Two meals per day and a packed lunch are available on request. Dietary requirements can be catered for. Barcelona is the perfect city for volunteering and exploring! In the mornings, you will help out at two different sanctuaries with other volunteers. You will then have the afternoons off to soak up the magnificent tourist sites, cultural and historical buildings, museums, galleries, fantastic restaurants, and gorgeous beaches. The nightlife is up there with the best in the world so there is plenty to look forward to.

A life changing experience

December 13, 2025by: Irene Neal - CanadaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!

I was looking for an escape from my comfortable lifestyle at home in Canada. I wanted to share my passion helping others less fortunate than myself. I searched international volunteering programs, have volunteered in four countries in 2025, and can truly say these experiences have changed my life. How do you feel when an elderly person in a old people's home in Zambia begs you to stay with them and share stories and smiles? What happens to you when the school children in Ghana hug you so tight you lose your breath? What overtakes your mind when you introduce positive ideas to women in an impoverished village in Sri Lanka, and see them take possession of new personal empowerment? Let me tell you. It grabs you by the heart and nourishes your soul. It makes you want to come back again and again. Which is exactly what I plan to do in 2026.
