Volunteer in Leyte, a province in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines! The community center in Bliss, Sagkahan in Tacloban City is the heart of all Volunteers for the Visayan's activities, serving as a staging area for various welfare projects. Staff and volunteers coordinate various social welfare projects for the Child Sponsorship Program and Community Program. As part of their community outreach programs, we coordinate various activities to empower the locals. One such project is the Mother's Club, which focuses on skill training, livelihood opportunities, and micro-financing projects for women. The organization also conducts peer bonding groups for the youth and interactive seminars for parents of children enrolled in their Child Sponsorship Program. Talented and skillful volunteers can transfer knowledge to the community center's clients by liaising closely with the staff. On this project you will also help business people improve and grow their business model. Working with a local partner organization, you will help direct funding and support into a wide variety of local, sustainable enterprises. One of the most successful organizations that volunteers have worked with is a small yogurt cooperative. The coop, run by women from a small rural village, produces probiotic yogurts which are particularly helpful for HIV sufferers undergoing treatment. On a daily basis you will be involved in tasks like reading through business plans, developing marketing strategies, managing loan accounts and canvassing for new ventures that need a little support and investment to grow into something much more. Village Community Banks (Vicobas) are an essential instrument of development work because they provide people without access to conventional bank accounts with funding opportunities to finance their agricultural or small entrepreneurial projects and children's education. Vicobas provides basic insurance for serious diseases and other claims, a social security system, and regular meetings and training to empower members. Volunteers should have previous knowledge in finance, entrepreneurship, economics, microfinance, or a similar field. Volunteering in Mukono offers a unique opportunity to give back to rural communities through participation in grassroots projects. On top of this, you will gain an insight into the daily living conditions of locals. As a volunteer, you will experience traditional Ugandan life and take part in daily activities. Their main sources of income include small-scale animal rearing, selling fruits and vegetables, brickmaking, and other manual labor jobs.

Volunteers or interns will be placed in a unique position to assist with microfinance initiatives. These initiatives, typically implemented by the government and other institutions, are geared toward reducing urban and rural poverty.
