Microfinance - Village Community Banks in Tanzania

Submit a ReviewNo Reviews
2007Year established

Program Overview

For many people in developing countries, getting even small loans from conventional banks is challenging due to a lack of bankable collateral. Therefore, they cannot implement business ideas like agricultural projects, craft stores, shops, or restaurants. Their lives stagnate, making improving their living conditions impossible.

Village Community Banks (Vicobas) are an essential instrument of development work because they provide people without access to conventional bank accounts with funding opportunities to finance their agricultural or small entrepreneurial projects and children's education. Vicobas provides basic insurance for serious diseases and other claims, a social security system, and regular meetings and training to empower members.

Volunteers should have previous knowledge in finance, entrepreneurship, economics, microfinance, or a similar field. This placement involves activities all over the Kilimanjaro Region and rural areas of Tanzania. It is also open to students seeking internship opportunities abroad.
