My digital security opener

Taking part in the My Digital Security Opener training was a valuable and practical learning experience. The training strengthened my understanding of digital security risks and how to protect myself, my information, and my organization while using digital platforms. I gained useful knowledge on creating strong passwords, identifying phishing attempts, protecting sensitive information, and practicing safer online communication. The sessions also increased my awareness of the digital threats faced by human rights defenders and the importance of responsible technology use. I now feel prepared to apply safer digital practices in my daily work and share the knowledge.

Engineering Intership in Tanzania - A Great Experience

engineering internship in Arusha, Tanzania. I was warmly welcomed by my supervisor, John, who made me feel comfortable from the start. On the first day, Asha gave me a clear orientation, explained everything about the placement and showed me how to use a mobile app to navigate the local public transport system easily. During my placement, I helped calculate material quantities for the next phase of the construction of St Elizabeth Hospital in Arusha. This included structural work, such as reinforcement and concrete, as well as finishing works involving materials such as paint and tiles. It was a valuable opportunity to apply my civil engineering knowledge to a real construction project and gain insight into the different stages of the building process. One of the highlights of my stay was meeting other volunteers from different backgrounds and countries. I made some great new friends and shared many enjoyable moments with them, which made the overall experience even more memorable. The biggest challenge was the limited availability of machinery and computers, which makes the work more difficult. However, it taught me to be flexible, resourceful and adaptable when working with limited resources. Overall, I had a good experience and appreciated the opportunity to see how a construction project is approached in a different country. Although the tasks were not always particularly varied or technically challenging, I gained useful insight into local working conditions and learned to adapt to limited resources. It was a valuable learning experience, both professionally and personally.

BEST TIME EVER

I had an amazing experience with Therapy Abroad. Amber was a huge help when communicating with my client, and with her support, I was able to develop a really positive relationship with her. All of the activities were meaningful and gave me the opportunity to apply what I have learned in occupational therapy school in a completely different cultural setting. I also loved getting to experience Thailand outside of the clinical setting. The elephant experience was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip, and the food was so good. Before coming, I honestly did not know very much about Thailand, so it was really exciting to learn more about the culture, the people, and the environment while actually being there. Overall, the trip was such a positive experience, and I am very grateful for everything I learned and the relationships I made. I would absolutely love to come back to Thailand someday.

My class learning about religion in Thailand.

Amazing Experience

This was my first trip out of the country, and while the flight was one of the worst things I have ever done, the experience in Thailand was incredible. I loved connecting with others there and learning more about the culture through the clinical and cultural experiences. I especially loved the cooking class and elephant sanctuary. The adaptive climbing on the last day was also such a great way to end the trip and have a moment with our buddies climbing up the rock walls together.

Highly recommended place!

I did my month and a half long herpetological internship there. It is an amazing place in the heart of the South African savannah. If you really enjoy fieldwork, as I do, this is the right place to spend time in. The people working in the reserve are also very kind, friendly, and helpful. I would definitely like to come back one day.

Highly recommend!

I had a wonderful experience studying at ELFI. The teachers and staff were incredibly supportive throughout my time there. Thanks to their guidance and excellent instruction, I was able to progress from having absolute zero knowledge of French to achieving a solid B1-B2 level, which most people now recognize in my daily conversations.

Beyond the Classroom: How Zagreb Transformed My Future in Medicine

Studying abroad in Zagreb, Croatia, was one of the most transformative experiences of my undergraduate journey. As a Biology major on the pre-medical track at Spelman College, I wanted an experience that would challenge me academically, immerse me in a different culture, and allow me to explore medicine beyond the traditional classroom setting. Zagreb gave me all of that and so much more. During my time abroad, I had the opportunity to participate in clinical shadowing at KBC Sestre Milosrdnice, where I spent much of my time observing cardiology and cardiovascular procedures, learning about patient care, and understanding how healthcare professionals collaborate in a hospital setting. One of my most memorable experiences was observing the medical team's response to a complication during a cardiac stent procedure. Witnessing the level of precision, communication, and critical thinking required in that moment strengthened my interest in cardiovascular medicine and helped solidify my aspiration to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. However, my experience was about much more than medicine. Choosing Zagreb was intentional. I wanted to travel somewhere unfamiliar, where I would have to step outside my comfort zone, navigate cultural differences, and become more independent. From learning basic Croatian phrases to exploring the city, connecting with my roommates, and experiencing everyday life in a new country, each day taught me something valuable about adaptability and confidence. As a first-generation college student and a Black woman pursuing a career in medicine, this opportunity also reminded me of the importance of representation and making international experiences accessible to students from all backgrounds. Studying abroad is not limited to students majoring in international studies or foreign languages. STEM students can also find programs that complement their academic interests and professional goals. My advice to anyone considering studying abroad is to research your options, ask questions, and remain open to destinations you may not have initially considered. Some of the most meaningful opportunities come from choosing experiences that challenge your expectations. I returned from Zagreb with more than memories and photographs. I returned with a clearer understanding of the physician I hope to become, greater confidence in my ability to navigate unfamiliar environments, and a deeper appreciation for the global nature of healthcare. If I had the opportunity to choose again, I would choose Zagreb every single time. This experience did not simply allow me to explore another country; it helped me discover a new direction for my future.

The coolest and most rewarding experience of my life!

This was an incredibly rewarding experience that I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to do. I was amazed to see how much these communities can do with such limited resources. I loved immersing myself in another culture, especially one that is completely different than my own. It was so beneficial for my learning as a future healthcare provider to consider all upbringings and cultures, and how each one values differ.
