With the Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC), students will join the team to collect and analyze data we intend to use as supplemental data. This will be handed over to the Belize Forest Department, helping them to establish the Placencia Lagoon as a Wildlife Sanctuary and protect the critical habitat from further development. The program will take a holistic approach while studying several species, including manatees, within the crocodile habitat. Drones will be flown systematically and students will count and identify manatees and crocodiles to create a baseline population count. They will review footage from camera traps to collect data on crocodile nesting and images of elusive terrestrial species such as jaguars, tapirs, and birds. They will also learn how to analyze parasites in various species found in the area. Experience isn't required and students from all over the world may apply! Virtual office hours for one-on-one time with CRC staff will be available. Upon completion, they will have 100 research hours to record on their VMCAS. University credit is not included.

Asia-Pacific Academic (APA) offers both offline and online internships in the Asia-Pacific, welcoming students across the world to step out of the classroom and apply acquired knowledge to real work experiences in a multicultural environment. APA is an organization that has 13 years of experience in the education abroad field. Our team has successfully hosted over 6,000 students and faculty for different types of programs. Join the research team at the Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC) to collect and analyze data, a critical step needed to protect the Placencia Lagoon as a wildlife sanctuary and gain government protection. Fellows conduct research on various species (including crocodiles and manatees) within local habitats and involve various community members to promote a local supervising task force for the lagoon. This is delivered 100% online and is limited to 20 Fellows. This fellowship involves wildlife research methodology, crocodile ecology and biology, parasitology research, and translational ecology. The Director of the CRC also promotes discussion of the challenges of wildlife conservation and management by utilizing her experience with local, national, and international regulatory organizations. After learning basic techniques for wildlife research and conservation, fellows are introduced and assigned to current research projects necessary to protect the lagoon. All fellows have the opportunity to earn 100 research hours for their veterinary medical college applications while making a significant impact on the protection of crocodiles and manatees in Belize.
