A Guide to Web Design Degrees Abroad
Why Earn Your Degree Abroad
Web design is a technological practice that transcends national, linguistic, and cultural boundaries, opening the door wide open for a global education. Earning your web design degree abroad in a different country is the opportunity to establish valuable international contacts in the field, while also having a life experience that is larger than what you have known thus far. A beauty of the web is its ability to break down barriers and limitations, connecting people from all over the world in the process: the same goes for studying abroad.
Locations
Web design utilizes a universal language, meaning that you can travel pretty much anywhere to study it, and continue to travel afterward to find work as well. Because the opportunities are so vast for where to launch your global career path, here are few factors to take into account which can help narrow your decision.
First, where are the highest quality web design degree programs abroad located? Leading countries in education an innovation within the field include Spain, France, and Germany, to name a few. Major universities as well as smaller technological institutes and design schools within these countries are all great options where to pursue a top-notch web design degree abroad.
Another major factor to bear in mind within this vein is the language barrier. While the aforementioned countries are great places to study web design abroad, you may also often be expected to pass a language proficiency exam prior to enrollment, which can limit the opportunity for non-speakers.
Fear not however; there are an equal amount of fruitful destinations where to earn your web design degree abroad within the English speaking world. England, Australia, and the United States are each home to some of the most prestigious schools in the world, where you can have a great experience living and studying web design abroad.
Academics & Degrees
Earning a web design degree abroad at the undergraduate level will generally require that you take a breadth of fundamental courses in the field, encompassing related subjects such as mathematics, computer programming, and physical sciences, in combination with a core curriculum of web design courses. A B.S. in web design from a major university abroad generally requires three to four years of study.
At the graduate level, you will then typically move on to master skillsets involved in web development and programming, on top of your foundational education in web design. This generally entails moving beyond basic design languages for the front-end of websites and delving deeper into back-end development and engineering. An M.S. in web design usually requires an additional one or two years of study on top of your undergraduate degree.
As within most professions, earning a graduate degree abroad in web design can often earn you access to higher-up and better-paying entry level positions than an undergraduate degree. There are a diversity of programs all over the world at both levels; different countries will vary in how they structure their degree programs, so keep this in mind while you research a depth of potential web design degrees abroad.
Benefits & Challenges
Expand Your Perspective. The internet is a realm of infinite possibility, and going abroad for your degree will open your mind to all the innovative new ways you can make your own impact felt as a web-designer. Nothing inspires creativity quite like travel.
Build Your Network. You will not only learn an invaluable new skillset for the virtual network by earning your degree abroad; you will also have the opportunity to expand your own professional network to a global scale.
Push Your Boundaries. With a universal degree like web design, it may be tempting to stay home and plug in from the comfort of your known surroundings. By breaking free into the larger world, however, you will re-define the limits of what you thought you knew.
As humanity continues to digitalize, web-design is becoming an increasingly important field of study for ambitious individuals who want to understand and contribute to this process on a deeper level. But the physical world is still live and well, and nothing will drive this lesson home quite like travelling to study abroad!

Studying my bachelor's in Beijing was the best decision
June 16, 2026by: Nina Koskinen - FinlandProgram: Bachelor's & Master's Degrees in China | Apply with GAC
I wasn't sure about leaving Finland for a full degree in China, but GAC made the application process smooth. They helped me choose the right university, prepared my documents, and guided me through the visa process. Now I'm studying International Business at a top university in Beijing. Tuition is affordable, the campus is modern, and my classmates are from all over the world. The support didn't stop after enrollment – GAC checked in to make sure I settled in well. If you're considering a degree in China, go through GAC. They make it easy.

Cultural and academic experience
April 28, 2022by: Nicholas Modlin - United StatesI spent two years living in Rome, learning about the city, and experiencing it (largely with a running group) and loved it immensely! John Cabot University was fantastic in facilitating this experience and offering new opportunities. Through the university, I was introduced to community members who I could explore the area with and live the most interesting parts of Rome. Of course, this is in addition to a well-experienced and professional faculty. I went through the business program at John Cabot and learned everything and more than what I was hoping from a selection of professionals with experience in international law, startups, and large corporations. The university is very well connected and utilizes their resources to create a worthwhile experience.

January 26, 2022by: Mary Curran - United StatesI was planning to finish my degree at UCLA when I learned about the Italian Studies program at JCU. After doing some research and contacting alumni, I decided that JCU would be a better fit for my future goals. I am in my second semester and can’t speak highly enough about the program. The faculty and staff have exceeded my expectations and I continue to be impressed at what this university has to offer. If you’re debating on where you should go to finish your degree, search no more. The experience you will have during your time in Rome is unparalleled. You will not only receive an exceptional education, you will have life changing experiences in the Eternal City.
Best decision ever
May 31, 2016by: Brittany - EnglandProgram: Degree Programs at the University of Westminster, London
I enjoyed my time at Westminster University. I studied in the post-graduate course Media, Campaigning and Social Change. This course exceeded my expectations. It covered everything listed on the information site plus so much more. University of Westminster is very diverse and I always met so many people from all over, studying various and interesting topics. The academic staff are very professional and know their topics well. The foundation of learning at UW is based in critical thinking. I loved how I was allowed to express my own opinions, hear others and learn from them and also and analyse an idea from all angles. I would recommend this university and this course.
