A Guide to Technology Degrees Abroad
Why Earn Technology Degrees Abroad?
Want to live on the cutting-edge? Technology is perpetually being updated, enhanced, and reinvented, keeping students on their toes and putting tech-savvy professionals on the top of the food chain. Gone are the days when techie students were sidelined in the cafeteria and written off by the popular kids. It’s a nerd’s world now, and the popularity of technology programs on college campuses is a testament to that.
If you like long walks through virtual reality, the sound of fingers against the keyboard, and gainful employment, get a degree in technology! #TechYES! The cost-benefit ratio of getting a technology degree abroad is off the charts. Most technology graduates can expect lucrative job offers, and the market for skilled tech gurus is only expected to continue to grow. Plus, tech jobs are some of the most flexible out there, so if you’re hoping to work from home or at one of Silicon Valley’s plush “campuses”, this is the major for you.
Technology is one of the few majors that can boast of students who start changing the world (and bringing in the big bucks!) even before graduation. Google, Facebook, and Dell Technologies - now multibillion dollar companies - were all launched while their CEOs were still enrolled in classes.
Where to Earn Technology Degrees
Technology has reached even the farthest corners of the world, and students interested in technology will find abundant study destinations, from urban glam to backwoods caves. Put your newfound tech skills to the test in diverse environments when you pursue an international technology degree.
A global tech giant, Germany is an obvious choice for technology studies. Many universities in Germany offer programs in English, and even in top-tier programs, tuition fees are some of the lowest in the world. German universities are known for having strong partnerships with public and private industry, enabling exciting research collaboration opportunities. When you’re not knee deep in hardware or lost in a complex code, take a break to visit historical monuments like the Berlin Wall or let off steam at the infamous Oktoberfest.
Singapore is SE Asia’s cosmopolitan capital of tech, recognized internationally for it’s top-notch technology research and industry. As a major transportation, business, and finance hub, Singapore makes a lively study destination, and an even more promising career center after graduation. In your free time, see technology in action at one of Singapore’s many modern malls, where students will enjoy powerful air-conditioning and an interesting mix of local foods.
You might not know it, but Portugal is brimming with technology programs. While many of Portugal’s top universities are relatively new, they have quickly gained international recognition and benefit from partnerships with other universities and research institutes across the EU. By far the cheapest country in Western Europe, students who study in Portugal can save their cache for weekend trips around the region.
Technology Degree Programs
The beauty of technology is its diversity. Technology degrees include a hodge-podge of the many things that are being revolutionized by tech in today’s world. Whether you want to mix groovy beats, design environmentally sustainable transportation networks, or fight corporate espionage, there’s a program that’s just right for you.
Technology is all about packing a lot of power into small devices, and, coincidentally, tiny countries consistently host the top technology programs worldwide. Schools in Switzerland, Singapore, and the Netherlands, for instance, are renowned for their technological research programs, which drive global innovations across a broad range of industries.
Undergraduate and Masters level programs are common in technology. As the field continues to take off, doctorate studies are also becoming increasingly prominent and accessible. The world needs more tech doctors, after all. Particularly at the undergraduate level, be prepared for some cross-training; most technology degree programs include coursework from a range of disciplines, including business, humanities, mathematics, and urban studies. Completing an undergraduate degree in technology generally takes three to four years. Masters programs range from one to three years, depending on research requirements, and doctorates can take anywhere from three years to nearly a decade.
Students with some background in computer science and programming will be at in advantage in technology programs, but commitment and willingness to learn are the only real requirements at the undergraduate level. To get into a Masters or doctorate program, students will need to demonstrate excellence in their Bachelor's studies and refined technological research interests.
GoAbroad Insider Tips
Technology is constantly growing and innovating, which makes it an especially dynamic discipline to study. But it can also be exhausting to keep up with the constant influx of innovation. What you read in a journal last semester, may be completely revolutionized by the time you graduate. Students who pursue their studies abroad are both better and worse off in attempting to grapple with this.
The bad news first: the latest news in tech doesn’t always reach the farthest corners of the world instantaneously (though thanks to technology, sometimes it does!). It can be hard to keep up with all the change while you’re busy adapting to a new culture and language, and enjoying your time abroad.
The good news: Global experience is invaluable in learning to adapt and think outside the box! So students who earned their technology degree abroad will be better prepared to cope with change, and ready to approach new contexts with grace and insight. So bring on the innovation! As they say: There are only two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors. Learn to work around these, and your international technology degree is in the bag!
The only thing holding you back is the technology you haven’t invented yet! Get out there and explore the world while getting technology degrees abroad.

Studying my bachelor's in Beijing was the best decision
June 16, 2026by: Nina Koskinen - FinlandProgram: Bachelor's & Master's Degrees in China | Apply with GAC
I wasn't sure about leaving Finland for a full degree in China, but GAC made the application process smooth. They helped me choose the right university, prepared my documents, and guided me through the visa process. Now I'm studying International Business at a top university in Beijing. Tuition is affordable, the campus is modern, and my classmates are from all over the world. The support didn't stop after enrollment – GAC checked in to make sure I settled in well. If you're considering a degree in China, go through GAC. They make it easy.

A journey to comfort and warmth
February 07, 2023by: Emmanuel Junior Nweke - NigeriaLike the rising of the sun, slowly brings warmth to a cold day, that's how I can describe my experience at AUB. The people of Lebanon sometimes say they can be rude, but what I found out is the issue of trust, the people are rich in hospitality and once they trust you, they make you feel at home, and give you comfort and warmth. At the end, everyone would miss their time at AUB.
MBA from AUB
March 24, 2018by: Matt - United Arab EmiratesChoosing a business school was a major decision, and my number one goal was to position myself for an international career. I chose to focus on the Middle East & North Africa region because of its rapidly-growing population and demand for skilled talent. The MBA program at AUB's Olayan School of Business was exactly what I hoped for. As a non-business undergrad, I benefited greatly from the classes and workshops. I also had the opportunity to represent AUB at 3 business case competitions in Canada, Hong Kong, and Germany. Most importantly, I can credibly work with companies and business leaders from across MENA. Today, I'm based in Dubai and working at one of the world's top consulting firms. Anyone considering studying in this part of the world should have AUB and OSB at the top of their list.
