The Doctors in Italy Pre-Vet Fellowship Program is a unique experience to appreciate the breadth of opportunities that a degree in Veterinary Medicine can offer while immersed in Italian culture and stunning natural landscapes. By shadowing veterinary professionals specializing in different disciplines, you will learn about animal welfare and behavior, basic clinical examination skills, animal nutrition, zoonotic diseases, the importance of human-animal interactions, and many other topics. You’ll spend time with cats, dogs, cows, sheep, horses, boars, rabbits, a spunky llama, and several other animals. From daily care and feeding to special needs, hand rearing, and veterinary checks ─ be in the midst of the action. You will assist veterinarians in clinical settings and during fieldwork in animal sanctuaries and wildlife rescue centers. You will be exposed to various species such as equids, large and small ruminants, wild and domestic pigs, rabbits, llamas, wildlife, birds, dogs, cats, and exotic animals—learning how to approach and care for them.

Volunteer in Peru with A Broader View Volunteers, a highly rated non-profit charity organization. Our placements are based in the Inca city of Cusco, Peru, and you may choose from 20 program options available. In recent years, Peru has experienced a rise in tourism, providing some economic relief. However, millions of Peruvians still live below the poverty line, with more than half of the population struggling to survive and close to one-fourth living in extreme poverty. Children are the hardest hit, with many living and working on the streets. Our volunteer programs aim to support these children by addressing their care, education, and health needs. In Cusco, Peru, we offer various social programs, including a medical program, teaching in primary and secondary schools, premedical/prenursing internships, and volunteering with orphanages and daycares. Additionally, you can combine these programs with Spanish immersion lessons while volunteering.

Foundations in Sustainable Development is our flagship program. It provides those who would like to make a positive impact with an introduction into the “for good” sector. Participants are able to learn a little bit about the field as a whole and gain preliminary insight into a specific field. Two of the courses, the Careers in Sustainable Development course and Leading Teams for Emerging Leaders course, form the groundwork of the Foundations in Sustainable Development program. The final course allows you to specialize in a range of fields from climate change and wildlife conservation to global public health and human rights. The Foundations in Sustainable Development program is included in the program fee of all GVI internships. Those completing a conservation internship must select the Introduction to Scientific Conservation Research course and those who select a community development internship must select the Introduction to Community Development course. Those completing the Foundations in Sustainable Development course are welcome to add on additional specialization courses. All courses, both core and specialization courses, can also be taken individually.

Global Greentalist is an international youth volunteer program that combines online learning with hands-on action in Costa Rica. The journey begins with four virtual preparation sessions focused on leadership, sustainability, and environmental education, equipping participants before they travel. Volunteers then spend five weeks in Costa Rica taking part in community-based projects, environmental conservation initiatives, and an experiential trekking phase. The program offers young people a meaningful way to learn, volunteer, and grow while working alongside rural and Indigenous communities.
