Program Overview

Eco Caminhos is an international permaculture farm and learning community located in the peaceful mountains of Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, within Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.

For more than 12 years, we have been developing regenerative systems focused on agroforestry, bioconstruction, sustainability education, organic food production, renewable energy, and community living. Our farm welcomes people from all over the world to experience a more conscious, connected, and nature-based lifestyle.

Here, participants can learn through hands-on experiences in agroforestry, syntropic farming, composting, natural building, gardening, and sustainable living while immersing themselves in an international community surrounded by forests, rivers, waterfalls, and mountains.

We offer different programs depending on the level of immersion and duration:

• Ecotourism (1–7 days)
• Eco Experience (1–4 weeks)
• Short-Term Volunteering (1–24 weeks)
• Long-Term Volunteering (1 year or more)

Great experience at Eco Caminhos would recommend

I enjoyed my time here at Eco Caminhos. The food was very good and healthy. The views are amazing. There are lots of activities to do, very hands on. I learned lot about agroforestry, permaculture and bio construction. All around a great l visit would highly recommend.

Where is Eco Caminhos located?

Eco Caminhos is a sustainable farm in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro. We are 150 km away from Rio de Janeiro.

What kind of work does Eco Caminhos carry out?

We work according to permaculture principles, particularly with bio-construction techniques and agroforestry systems.

What is the minimum period of stay on the farm?

People who want to volunteer on the farm and learn about permaculture practices can start with a minimum period of 1 week. We have two types of volunteer programs.

What kind of volunteer programs does Eco Caminhos have?

We have a short-term program that lasts from 1-12 weeks. We also have long-term programs with a duration of up to 1 year. Our long-term placement is free under some conditions and available to those who have completed our short-term program.

How many hours do I have to work on the farm?

A workweek runs from Mon – Fri, with a typical day starting at 7 am and ending at 4:30 pm. Short-term volunteers work 3 days a week and generally have Tues and Thurs off. Long-term volunteers work 5 days a week.
