My volunteer experience learning though Conservation

Volunteering at Lumo Conservancy Rewarded me with experience that enriched me with a deeper understanding of Wildlife Conservation and sustainable tourism. It also strengthened my conservation knowledge, professional skills and inspired me to continue supporting wildlife conservation while giving me practical lessons by experienced staff.

Most fulfiling experience ever

Where is the project located?

The project is located in Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary in the Tsavo ecosystem in southeastern Kenya, near Voi town. It forms part of the greater Tsavo conservation landscape.

What does the program fee include?

The program fee includes:

  • Pickup from Nairobi
  • SGR train transfer (Nairobi–Voi–Nairobi
  • Road transfers between Voi and Lumo
  • Shared accommodation
  • Three meals per day
  • Daily conservation field activities
  • Local supervision and coordination
  • Project support and orientation

What kind of activities will I participate in?

Activities may include:

  • Wildlife monitoring and tracking
  • Data collection and reporting
  • Habitat restoration
  • Community conservation engagement
  • Exposure to human–wildlife conflict mitigation initiatives

Activities depend on operational priorities and wildlife movement during your stay.

Do I need prior conservation experience?

No prior experience is required. However, participants should:

  • Be physically fit
  • Comfortable working outdoors
  • Have a genuine interest in conservation
  • A background in sustainability, biology, environmental science, or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation is shared and comfortable, located within or near the conservancy. Basic amenities are provided. Electricity and connectivity may be limited due to the remote setting.
