Enchanted Forest Art Therapy Volunteer Program in Belize

Kaya invites art students, carpenters, sculptors, landscape architects, and individuals passionate about art to join this Art Therapy Volunteering in San Ignacio, a town situated approximately two hours away from Belize City. Start any date of the year and stay from 2-12 weeks. The project is aimed at abused and troubled teens from 16 years old abandoned by the legal system. They are hosted in an eco-sustainable center with a farm-like setup. Here, they are provided with food and shelter security to help them heal and recover from a painful past. The farm empowers them to develop into financially independent young people. The Enchanted Forest project involves creating a magical place under the supervision of a lead artist from Mexico. Your group will combine landscaping and art to bring life to the forest area through artwork made from natural resources. You will also create a meditation area. Hence, an open mind, imagination, and creativity are vital to make this project successful.

ARCC Gap: Central America - Belize, Costa Rica, Panama

Venture to some of the world’s most exotic and intriguing regions, ranging from the turquoise waters of Panama, the lush jungles of Costa Rica, and the white-sand beaches of Belize. Shadowing doctors in the Bocas del Toro islands off the coast of Panama, we understand the barriers to medical access for remote indigenous communities. Engaging with a local organization, we participate in an exchange program, learning more about the lives of local Panamanians and sharing our own culture. Visiting a locally run coffee farm in the Costa Rican highlands, we learn the process behind the production of coffee. Rafting on Costa Rica’s exhilarating Pacuare River, the vibrancy of life in the jungle beckons us in the calls of toucans and howler monkeys. Partnering with local biologists on the Pacific Coast, we learn about the current issues facing conservation efforts Basking in the crystal clear waters of improbably white sand beaches, we take in the beauty of the Caribbean. Exploring the underwater life of the reefs of Belize, we gain insights into a world rarely witnessed earning our SCUBA certification and participating in a lionfish eradication project.

A Guide to Volunteering Abroad in Belize

Where to Volunteer Abroad in Belize

Located on the northeastern coast of Central America, Belize enjoys the same lush tropical climate that attracts beachcombers and jungle adventurers to the region throughout the year. Its northernmost territory shares a small section of the Yucatan Peninsula with Mexico. The culture is very relaxed and welcoming, and the landscape offers wide expanses of beach and dense tropical forests covering rugged mountain ranges. Here are the best places to volunteer in Belize.

San Ignacio. This bustling cultural-economic hub lies on the banks of the Macal River in central Belize near the border of Guatemala. Here you can explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Caracol, marvel at the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave, and trek through the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. It’s also a popular destination for volunteers who are interested in archaeology, anthropology and cave digging.

Belize City. This formal capital reaches out from Haulover Creek on the coast of Belize. From urban activities to adventurous endeavors, volunteers are in for a treat here. Whether you’re interested in bustling markets or discovering the Mayan city of Altun Ha, you’ll never tire of things to do. The Blue Hole, a sinkhole just off the coast of Belize, calls daredevils to explore its mysterious depths.

Caye Caulker. This limestone coral island is located off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean sea. The tranquil location is accessible only by water taxi or plane, and it’s a popular place for volunteers interested in learning how to be a wilderness first responder. For those interested in conserving sea creatures, go ahead and dive into the depths of the second largest reef in the world — the Belize Barrier Reef!
