Embark on a six-day volunteering trip at an ecological reserve in the extremely dense and diverse Amazon rainforest combined with guided tours around the southern region of Peru! For those who are interested in rainforest conversation and experiencing the wonders of Peru, this is the perfect trip for you. Just two of the exciting activities that will take place are exploring Maras and Moray on a four-by-four motorbike tour and training to the entrancing ruins of Machu Picchu. The volunteer work you will engage in is work at an ecological reserve under the supervision of nature experts and biologists in the area. Tasks may include but are not limited to assisting the animal rescue center, conducting biodiversity research, assisting in turtle repopulation efforts, and maintenance of rescue center trails. There are many exciting travel highlights to consider such as a tour of the Valley of the Incas and a visit to Machu Picchu!

Based in a local national park on the hills of the Peruvian Amazon, this project has three main areas of focus: socio-economics, ecosystem services, and biodiversity. Through the study of animal distribution, behavior, and ecology, students will begin to understand the relationship between wildlife and the forest. The Environmental Conservation Internship in Peru is a skills-based placement lasting more than 6 months. You will alongside project coordinators to carry out research on forest regeneration and the park’s wildlife—including butterflies, birds, reptiles, mammals, and others. Weeks 1–10 is a volunteer phase that involves introduction to all projects, extensive field training, and first aid certification. Weeks 11–12 is Spanish immersion, leisure time, and homestay in Cusco. Weeks 13–24 is the internship phase wherein you act as field staff and run your own project in Community Development or Conservation Research.

EcoSwell is a multiple award winning non-profit located in Lobitos, a surfing paradise of northern Peru. The organization focuses on helping vulnerable communities in Peru develop sustainably by carrying out infrastructure projects, socio-environmental and educational initiatives. As a Research Volunteer Intern, you will be given ownership of research initiatives. The daily activities will vary depending on whether you are conducting your own research or supporting us with a current project: - (SDG) Impact Research: Quantifying the impact of EcoSwell's projects on the community. - Groundwater research: This study conducted alongside UK universities aims to investigate the extent and quality of groundwater resources in the region. - Public Health: Conduct research associated with our public health awareness initiatives. -Business Plans/Models: Get involved in developing a business plan/model for bird watching ecotourism in the equatorial dry forest. - Your own research: Dissertations (Bachelors, Masters, PhD): Create an appropriate research methodology for your own academic research which would be applicable and relevant to the sustainability work that we lead.

Individuals with specific knowledge in the field of Biology are welcome to support this program by investigating and documenting different species of flora and fauna. It is necessary to document all kinds of possible biodiversity through photos and videos to develop different teaching materials to share with the community and Peruvian and international schools. Partnering with the local city hall and professionals in charge of the natural reserve, we conduct scientific research. Then, we create a report for relevant information and findings, contributing to biodiversity conservation initiatives in the area. We also monitor physical and biological variables, preserve threatened species, and protect their ecosystems. The project involves geographically locating different ecosystems and working on the area's accessibility, research, and conservation. Our group will trek for approximately 1 hour within the jungle to reach the field site from our village and another hour to get back. Interns can stay on-site, in a cabin or hut in the middle of the jungle.
