Embark on a journey to the South of France for an unforgettable summer of French language and culture! Arrive to Toulouse for a 3 day orientation excursion in the village of Albi. On the drive to Argeles-Sur-Mer, the program base, stop at Carcassonne and explore the village's iconic castle. Upon arrival to Argeles meet your homestay. 2 to 3 students are placed per home. In Argeles you will have French classes in the mornings on a historical garden property. The school is in the property's historic home dating to 1887. Classes offered for all levels! After class, enjoy a picnic lunch and then segway into afternoon cultural activities such as a painting class, a cooking class, and a traditional dance class. And, of course, lots of beach time! Argeles has one of the longest and most beautiful sandy beaches on the entire French Mediterranean. It is only about 15 minutes walking from the school! Local weekend excursions are included! Hike to the beach town of Collioure for swimming and return by boat to Argeles. Visit the mountain village of La Roque for a lunch and hiking. The program ends with an excursion to Toulouse for a day of exploration and saying goodbye to newfound friends.

Develop fluency in the French language and culture by living with a host family and studying at a local high school. Paris is magnificent, but France is more than one city. AFS students have lived in communities ranging from the snowcapped Alps to the sparkling Mediterranean. Most host families live in small towns, which will help you become a part of the community. Since France is a historically Catholic country, even the most rural villages have incredible cathedrals rising above quaint cobblestone streets. And, if you long to stroll the Champs-Élysées and snap pics of the Eiffel Tower, you’ll likely have that opportunity. AFS area chapters in France are usually large and active, planning trips to some of the most iconic destinations with other AFS exchange students worldwide. With AFS, you will discover what it means to live in France as a local. With its architecture, painting, cuisine, fashion, philosophy, and much more, it's easy to understand why France attracts so many AFS students.

Live like a Parisian and practice your skills in a language spoken by more than 100 million people! Dive into the richness of French with four weeks of language immersion in France’s capital. After language classes, engage in French conversations in the bustling, cobblestone streets of the Latin Quarter, at the hilltop neighborhood of Montmartre, and on visits to iconic landmarks like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Catch the sounds of traditional French folk music from street musicians, window-shop outside Bohemian boutiques, and meet Parisian locals, too. The city’s many cafés, bookstores, markets, and parks all become backdrops to an authentic local experience. Living with a host family, share French meals each day and deepen your understanding of local customs and traditions. On weekends, go on excursions to Versailles to visit the palace and its picturesque gardens and discover medieval village of Provins with its fortified ramparts. By immersing yourself in French culture and everyday life, you will not only level up your French, but you’ll also get to enjoy the country the way Parisians do.

In Nice, you will live in a modern student apartment, in the beautiful Old Port neighborhood, in the very heart of town. Every student chooses two classes as their academic focus: a major and an elective. The French major class meets every morning Monday to Friday while electives meet three afternoons a week. Electives include French Conversation, Photography, Sports, and Studio Art. Abbey Road provides three meals a day of high-quality food through a variety of venues. We often cook together using traditional French recipes. On some nights we go out for group dinners. In any case, our students eat authentic, quality food, as opposed to fast food or tourist meals. Our teaching method emphasizes active, hands-on learning, cultural and language immersion. Most of our French classes include interacting with locals, practicing French, and small group French conversation workshops. The program also offers a great variety of cultural, educational, athletic, and travel activities. You will visit some of the most beautiful destinations on the French Riviera: St. Jean, Beaulieu, Monaco, Eze, Antibes, Cannes, and many others.
