Do you have a talent for arts and crafts? Are you knowledgeable about income generation activities? No matter your skills and expertise, you would be a big help to this project. We welcome both volunteers and interns. The HBC program provides care to individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. It operates in 3 regions across Tanzania and currently supports an average of 730 patients. Trained HBC workers visit beneficiaries regularly to provide all types of support – relevant information (such as HIV/AIDS education and nutritional advice), finances, and cleaning. This care program has seen a significant improvement in the health of many patients. Our placements are based in Arusha and surrounding Maasai villages. Volunteers arrive on either the first or third Sunday of each month and stay for 2 weeks up to a year. We don’t ask for specific requirements and qualifications to join this program. But any skills in artwork, beading, and crafts are highly appreciated. It helps to learn some basic Kiswahili/Maasai language to communicate effectively with the locals. A volunteer coordinator assists you with this upon arrival.

For many people in developing countries, getting even small loans from conventional banks is challenging due to a lack of bankable collateral. Therefore, they cannot implement business ideas like agricultural projects, craft stores, shops, or restaurants. Their lives stagnate, making improving their living conditions impossible. Village Community Banks (Vicobas) are an essential instrument of development work because they provide people without access to conventional bank accounts with funding opportunities to finance their agricultural or small entrepreneurial projects and children's education. Vicobas provides basic insurance for serious diseases and other claims, a social security system, and regular meetings and training to empower members. Volunteers should have previous knowledge in finance, entrepreneurship, economics, microfinance, or a similar field. This placement involves activities all over the Kilimanjaro Region and rural areas of Tanzania. It is also open to students seeking internship opportunities abroad.

Widows Encouragement & HIV/AIDS Foundation (WEHAF) is an NGO based in Arusha, Tanzania, working to uplift vulnerable women, widows, and children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. Since 2017, we have been creating opportunities for empowerment, education, and sustainable development through community-driven programs. Volunteers at WEHAF get involved in a wide range of activities depending on their interests and skills. These include teaching and playing with children at our daycare center, conducting home visits to support and empower vulnerable women, participating in outreach to educate girls in Maasai communities, assisting with women's income-generating activities like sewing, and helping with administrative or fundraising work. This is an empowerment program based in Tanzania. In this program, volunteers with good hearts and an open mind are needed. Empowering Women and Girls is a program designed to strengthen groups who come from a truly heartbreaking background; from being shamed for being HIV positive to abandonment due to assault, and a level of poverty that will be hard for most people from the Western world to imagine. The goals are to help women become self-sufficient and to recruit and help more. Some of the volunteer opportunities are community work, counseling for HIV victims and home victims, palliative care, and youth programs such as healthcare training in schools and communities. This project also involves teaching women skills such as gardening, crafts, English, entrepreneurship, business, IT, and finance. Participation in any of these activities depends on how comfortable you are with tending to the task provided. If you feel uncomfortable with a task, it is okay to be substituted by a member of staff. To volunteer, you need to directly give a $100 contribution to the center.
