On a personal level, this project allowed me to feel useful within society and in the protection of endangered species, but also to meet people from all over the world and visit a region rich in biodiversity. Academically and professionally, I was able to acquire new knowledge in the field of marine biology and conservation (a field I would like to work in later) that will perhaps help me make a difference in my future applications/jobs. Real Step helped me in my internship search and considered all my requests. Their strong point is their close relationship with us, which facilitates and streamlines the application process, which is often quite long and complex in other organizations.
We were given several mission duties throughout this project. Three times a week, we conducted sea animal observations, including whales, dolphins, and turtles, where we had to collect various data on them. Throughout the boat trip, we had to record each action we took in a logbook. We would record any trash collection, weather changes, etc. During the animal observations, we collected information on their behavior, the numbers of them. The rest of the week, we conducted beach cleanups. During this mission, I was able to expand my knowledge of the marine species in Tenerife, their behavior, the threats they face, and why it is essential to protect them. On a personal level, I was able to deepen my practical skills, particularly in data processing, my observation skills, and oral fluency during presentations. This project was also enriching because I was able to meet many people, and it allowed me to develop my openness to others. I highly recommend this assignment because, in addition to providing knowledge and expanding my professional portfolio, it was a great experience that helped me grow on a personal level. RealStep was truly there and supported me throughout the administrative process. They were all attentive to my requests and responded quickly to my questions, which assured me about this project.
