Volunteer with Buddhist Novice Monks in Laos

Volunteer first-hand with Buddhist novice monks and local community youth in the age-old city of Luang Prabang. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site it holds an intricate history merging religious and architectural heritage. Teach English and gain a better cultural and linguistic understanding of the community. Collaborate with local teachers and like-minded participants to support the empowerment of local community youth. Through a Monday to Friday lesson practice, you’ll assist local teachers in the improvement of educational capacity for community youth and increased educational opportunities. Situated between two rivers, the Mekong and Nam Khan, you’ll be surrounded by Laos waters. In your free time, taste traditional cuisine and travel with participants from around the world. English Teaching in Luang Prabang, Laos

You will have the opportunity to teach English at various schools in Luang Prabang, Laos, with the primary placement at a local public school. Students range from 10 to 25 years old, and classes typically include 15–20 students with one teacher. Schools in Laos welcome new teaching concepts and strategies, giving you the chance to share your own ideas and techniques. You will design creative lesson plans that align with the syllabus, helping students strengthen their English skills and expand their general knowledge. Encouraging open discussions on a range of topics will increase their confidence and broaden their understanding. Expect to teach for about 3–4 hours daily, with additional time dedicated to preparing lessons according to the English Curriculum guidelines. This project offers a rewarding experience, as students are enthusiastic, eager to learn, and enjoy engaging with new teaching methods.
