IVHQ
August 19, 2026by: Ada Mok - United StatesMy IVHQ coordinator was very responsive and helpful with questions I had prior to my trip. This is the second time I've traveled with IVHQ and only had positive experiences with both trips. I'm glad I stumbled upon it when looking to solo volunteer travel, especially as a woman.
First solo trip at 52
August 19, 2026by: Janelle Munson - United StatesThis was my first experience abroad for any reason. I hadn't been off the North American continent prior to Zanzibar! IVHQ provided tremendous advice and guidance to set me at ease. I know I can trust them for my next solo trip. No hestitation about a second experience with them.
Amazing experience in La Ventanilla
August 19, 2026by: Niamh Townsend - United KingdomProgram: Sea Turtle and Reptile Conservation in La Ventanilla, Mexico
The support I received before going and while on the trip was really helpful, especially the programme guide, which included everything I needed to know about the trip. The opportunity to participate in IVHQ zoom calls before going was also helpful as it gave me more information and gives you the chance to ask any questions. I had an amazing experience volunteering with the turtles and crocodiles in La Ventanilla and learning about their conservation measures. Everyone there was so kind and friendly, and although I was nervous about travelling solo beforehand, they made me feel so welcome and safe. The food was delicious, and the accommodation was really nice. One thing I would say to anyone going on the project is to plan your transport back to the airport in advance. I found arranging this on my own quite difficult, especially with the language barrier, so I would recommend considering this before leaving for the project. Overall, I had an amazing experience and will definitely be booking another volunteer trip with IVHQ in the future!

My summer in July
August 19, 2026by: Bettina Nagy - HungaryProgram: Volunteer in Turtle Conservation in Nusa Penida, Bali
It was such an unique experience what I cannot describe in words correctly! I'm so glad I applied in the end even though I was so scared to do this alone. I've met incredible people, I've got to know a new culture and places with a lot of fun and adventures. I've never imagined I'll ever take care of so tiny and unique creatures, but I couldn't imagine a better place to do so. The local people were so kind and helpful. If you had any question they gladly answered and tried to help if they needed to. So everything was so awesome in overall. The accommodation, the food, the programs, everything. I'll never forget the unlimited pineapple and watermelon at dinner, and gossiping, of course. Thank you that I could be a part of this amazing program!

Volunteering at a Dog Shelter
August 19, 2026by: Stuart Pester - United KingdomThis was a memorable and worthy experience. Staying with a local family, getting a taste of how a Guatemalan family live and the type of food they eat. Working at the dog shelter was a very rewarding experience and fun especially with the puppies. It’s hard not to fall in love with the dogs. Definitely will be doing this again.
A Meaningful and Rewarding Volunteering Experience
August 14, 2026by: SEYED Hossein Jamali - AustraliaI had a wonderful experience participating in the International Volunteer Service – Food Outreach program in Vietnam. It was a rewarding opportunity to support local communities, meet people from different backgrounds, and contribute to a meaningful cause. I really appreciated the organisation of the program and the kindness and hospitality of the local people. It was a memorable and enriching experience that I would highly recommend to others.
A great learning experience
August 13, 2026by: Jennifer Campbell Hicks - AustraliaVolunteering in an overseas country offers many opportunities to learn about different cultures, countries and languages. It is particularly enjoyable living at close quarters with people from all over the world, with everyone having a similar drive to engage with others
AMAZING
August 13, 2026by: Daniel Abdulla - United KingdomProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I was, probably like some of you, a bit sceptical when initially applying due to the low price compared to other organisations. However, the experience I had was absolutely amazing and I have learnt so much about not only myself, but about different cultures and etiquettes. My program manager, Marissa, was absolutely fantastic at answer all of my questions and adjusting any mistakes I submitted onto my application such as flight number and pick-up time. Despite the huge time difference between Marissa and myself, she was able to reply to my email promptly and with extreme care - I was really at ease throughout the whole process and that made the experience a bunch better. Everything on my volunteering was as described on the program guide and there were no surprises when I landed, everything that happened during my week I was prepared for. I would really recommend this company and I want to thank them once more for the fantastic and truly life-changing experience they provided for me.
Great first volunteer abroad exoerience
August 13, 2026by: Tracy Nguyen - CanadaThe moment I stepped into the airport, I felt welcomed and it was easy to figure out where to go to the accommodation. As for my stay, I found that the scheduled routine makes it easier to know what to expect in terms of house rules and what volunteers should be doing.
Life changing
August 12, 2026by: Jc Montoya - United StatesProgram: Volunteer in Childcare in Ghana
My experience volunteering in Ghana was truly life-changing. Being able to care for patients, assist with their medical needs, and help individuals receive treatment they may otherwise have struggled to afford gave me a deeper appreciation for the importance of compassionate and accessible healthcare. Seeing the gratitude of patients and families reminded me that even small acts of service can make a lasting difference. Beyond the medical experience, Ghana taught me the value of humility, compassion, and community. I learned that healthcare extends far beyond treating an illness. It is about seeing people, listening to them, and making them feel cared for and valued.

Excellent Experience!
August 12, 2026by: jamie jones - United StatesProgram: Volunteer in Childcare in Morocco
I received excellent support from beginning to end. Any questions that I had were answered quickly and thoroughly. The support person I had in Morocco was excellent- well-trained, kind, effective, available, and I was checked in on regularly. He helped make me feel settled, safe, and supported in the role. The home I stayed in exceeded my expectations - the room was great, the food was amazing, and the family was kind. I will do another program, and I recommend the organization 100%. I highly recommend arriving early so that it can be arranged for acclimation to the time zone, the weather, and the surrounding area. It was very helpful not only to sleep off the jet lag before starting the program, but also to identify where things like markets and other resources were located.

An unforgettable experience in Split!
August 12, 2026by: Nicole Boduch - AustriaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I had such a wonderful experience in Split! I met so many amazing people from different countries and made memories that I will definitely never forget. The Youth Support program gave me the opportunity to connect with the local community, experience a different culture and grow personally at the same time. The local team was very welcoming and supportive and I always felt comfortable asking questions or getting help when needed. I especially loved the international atmosphere and meeting people with completely different backgrounds and stories.besides volunteering, I had enough time to explore Split, enjoy the beautiful beaches and nature and experience Croatian culture. This experience helped me step outside my comfort zone, become more independent and see things from new perspectives. I’m really grateful for all the people I met and everything I experienced during my time here. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants to travel, volunteer, meet new people and create unforgettable memories abroad. ❤️
Life Changing Experience
August 11, 2026by: Jen McClymont - CanadaProgram: Volunteer in Medical in Ghana
From the first moment I opened the IVHQ website, I was impressed with how easy the site was to navigate. Everything was well organized and the online active agent was so pleasant. IVHQ helped me throughout the entire process by answering all my questions, providing lists of things to read and information on how to prepare for my volunteer trip. I was set up with a program manager who was so helpful and continued to be in contact with me from the start to the end of my experience. IVHQ was extremely thorough and ensured I had everything I needed to travel safely from my visa documents to my vaccinations. I felt very well prepared and was able to relax and enjoy the trip. I would HIGHLY recommend IVHQ and I hope to volunteer again woth that organization.

IVHQ Marine and coastal conservation Zanzibar
August 11, 2026by: Bailee Drew - AustraliaI participated in the Marine and coastal conservation program in Zanzibar. I had the best time ever but before I even left Australia IVHQ helped make the process of application and preparation seamless and efficient. They provided all the information I could have possibly needed to prepare me for what I would arrive to once I got to Zanzibar. The program itself was incredible. So many activities to choose from to keep you busy. The staff were incredible. So friendly, super organised and welcoming. Not only did we participate in activities to help the local community but the staff also ensured we had time to socialise and get to know all the other volunteers. I absolutely loved my time and would 100% go back.

The support and organization of IVHQ was strong and great. Traveling and volunteering with a family of five, with 3 Jr High School kids but was amazing. Very comfortable and things were laid out well, we all felt extremely safe and comfortable the entire experience.

It was very easy to go through the application process, complete all the steps, and be ready to volunteer in Costa Rica. All the support we received throughout the process made sure that we felt safe, prepared, and were making an impact on the local community. I would highly recommend IVHQ, and hope to do future volunteer missions with them.

I had an amazing experience with International Volunteer HQ in Ecuador. Everything was well organized from the beginning, and I felt supported throughout the entire program. The local team was welcoming, helpful, and always available when needed. Preparation before trip
July 30, 2026by: Yuange LiuProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
The preparation before trip was so detailed that I don’t have anything to worry about. It got everything listed and made it so much easier to tick off what I’ve done and what they need. The communication with the manager for the volunteer was so smooth and fast, and I was able to get a reply current evening or next morning (due to different timing in different countries). I wanted to change my volunteer from rural teaching to turtle reservation, it was so fast that there wasn’t any problems with the money nor arrangements, everything just went so smoothly, really impressed. The local team there really helped a lot, the driver, the leader, everyone was just so nice, even the cook and the receptionist. This volunteer as itself also helped me a lot on raising awareness for the sea turtles, learnt a lot and really hope to help them consistently. This is such a memorable trip and I hope to do these volunteers with IVHQ next summer with my friends.

I love to travel and I spend my days trying to gather money for my next adventure. Being right now at a phase were I'm unemployed, doing my thesis, and sending some job applications, I decided it would be the perfect moment to volunteer abroad. I know that as soon as I get a job it's going to become incredibly hard to do something like that for a long period of time. My decision was then based on timing, on having saved some money working in retail, and on knowing I was finally mentally ready to do something like that.

I've been on a few of these trips before with other organizations such as World Vets around South America, and while I previously have always loved working with animals, I felt that teaching English would be both interesting and educational for myself as I research literacy at my university. I love everything about South America, and Peru was right at the top of my list of places I needed to visit. IVHQ offered the opportunity at such an affordable rate that I couldn't pass it up. I decided that I wanted to do a trip and I immediately went online and signed up. I was on a plane two weeks after that!

What inspired you to travel abroad?
IVHQ is based on the concept that volunteering abroad should be affordable, transparent and that it is positive for all stakeholders. Since we were established in 2007, we have received a lot of good press for the fact that we manage to make volunteering affordable and transparent, but I would like to think it is the quality of our programs that sets us apart from other organizations. We have a dedicated team of staff at IVHQ in New Zealand who work tirelessly to help prepare volunteers before they go, providing them with pre-departure information and answering any enquiries they may have.
