Bali Culture Week and Volunteer Teaching
September 01, 2025by: MichaelThis was an excellent learning and teaching experience. I learned about Balinese food, language, religion, and history; toured - a coffee plantation, a park with a water fall, and a monkey forest; watched a fire dance, visited numerous temples and even went snokeling at Blue Lagoon. The rice terrace was really interesting, while teaching grades 2-4 students English was a lot of fun! I would recommend a visit to Ubud, Bali via IVWQ and a stay at Green Lion.
I wish I could have stayed longer.
August 22, 2025by: Federica SerraVolunteering was one of the best experiences of my life. I'll definitely do it again and recommend it to friends. I saw new places, learned so much, met incredible people, and had so much fun. I wish I could have stayed longer. I can't wait to do a similar experience again. It truly makes you realize how lucky we are to live our lives and how important our help can be to others.
I grew in so many levels and I healed on even more levels.
August 07, 2025by: Juan Pablo Alvarez ArellanoThis experience changed the way I viewed the world and myself. I grew in so many levels and I healed on even more levels. The culture, the locals, the energy of the people just give you new perspectives on how to be thankful about life. I’m eternally greatful about this experience it’s definitely happening again.
Life changing and so amazing
August 05, 2025by: Daniel GleeckThe was genuinely the best trip of my life I’ve never had more fun, and seen the more beautiful things. I would recommend it to everyone and I think everyone should go to Bali. I met the best people ever and I’m so sad the trip is over I want to go back. Meeting the kids and volunteering was life changing and so amazing I feel like a new person.
Embrace the culture, love the experience
April 03, 2023by: Maria Filipa SousaMy favorite moment from the volunteer experience was that I had the opportunity to be there during the silent day and to learn about Bali’s culture. Don’t be hesitant! Just do it! It’s a little bit scary during the first week but it’s just the first days. You’ll get used to everything and you’ll really enjoying it! Go with an open mind, it’s a completely different culture but it’s really worth it. I loved it.
Bali best experience
January 30, 2020by: Maria Jose Quintero - ColombiaBali review My name is Maria, I'm from Colombia and I'm 21 years old, I volunteered in Bali for 2 weeks in the kindergarten program. Volunteering was an unbelievable idea I had since I was in school, an adventure I always wanted to be part of and a dream I’ve always had since I discovered the volunteering world. When the idea of coming to Bali came to my mind, I couldn't be more excited and happy about having my dream becoming true. The application was ready and my 32 flying hours we're almost done. I arrived at the volunteer's house and since I entered I knew It was going to be one of the best experiences of my life. The local team was incredibly warm, they treated me as if they knew me for a long time ago, and we became part of a new family. Since that moment I fell in love with the Balinese culture, its people and their beliefs. When I start working with the children all these feelings became stronger, they taught me that you don't need to speak the same language to transmit love, that faith is stronger than any problem on the road, that sharing and saying thank you is the most important value, and that a smile says more than a thousand words. I learned from every person I met, I travel around Bali enjoying the food, the temples, and getting myself into the culture with some yoga and meditation classes. These 2 weeks of volunteer taught me more than many other experiences have done in my whole life, I'll recommend Ivhq to anyone who wants to help the world, knowing that at the end you'll learn and you'll get more than you're actually giving. Thank you so much IVHQ

IVHQ - Ubud, Bali: kindergarten & turtle conservation amazing experience!
January 29, 2020by: Delphine Devos - CanadaI volunteered in Ubud, Bali for a total of 7 weeks. It was such an awesome and life-changing experience where I got to learn so much about the Balinese culture and lifestyle, but also grow so much as a person. I helped out as a kindergarten teacher for 4 weeks. Every day I would have a little lesson planned for the kids; I would handout some worksheets, play games with them and be there for their breakfast/lunch. The kids were so loving and full of energy! I loved being by their side every single day and see their beautiful smiles :) I miss my class a lot, they truly have a special place in my heart. I also volunteered on the turtle conservation program while in Bali. It was amazing to live alongside locals and help out with an environmental cause on a daily basis. At the turtle centre I got to clean turtle tanks, feed and clean the turtles and I even got to experience a turtle release while I was there. It was such an emotional experience to get to set a turtle free and bring her back to her natural habitat. On top of helping with the turtles, we also did beach and street cleaning. I would 100% recommend IVHQ and the Bali program, it was an experience I will never forget!!

Peace and joy in Ubud, Bali
November 19, 2019by: Sarah Cacdac - United StatesI couldn't be happier with my choice of volunteering through IVHQ. My expectations were far exceeded beyond anything I could've imagined. The staff was great, food was fantastic, and accommodates more than adequate with hot water and western toilets. I will definitely continue with IVHQ

March 27, 2019by: Erica Ewing - United StatesIVHQ made volunteering abroad so easy and painless. My program definitely superseded my expectations. Best 2 months of my life!
March 24, 2019by: Stephanie Bagshaw - ZimbabweThe 2 months I spent in Bali volunteering were the best and happiest 2 months of my life. I’ve taken away with me so many incredible life lessons and have grown so much as an individual. I have made friends for life some of which I now consider best friends and I cherish every moment I got to spend with these kind souls. The children I taught really did open my eyes and even though I was the one teaching them, I feel like I learnt a lot more then they did. I grew to love the kids I taught and the happiness they had just shone through no matter their circumstances. I am so privileged to have met such incredible and inspiring people from so many different walks of life. I 100% recommend this experience to everyone that has the chance to do it. It really will change your life!
Thank you Stephanie for your nice feedback! I am stoked to hear that you feel like this experience has changed your life, and I am sure you have changed other lives as well by volunteering your time. Thank you! Lena - IVHQ Program Manager.
Thank you IVHQ!
August 14, 2018by: Kiley Smith - United StatesI attended a one-week program through IVHQ in Bali. IVHQ partnered with a local organization, Green Lion, that was responsible for onsite logistics. I felt prepared for the trip and IVHQ was very responsive throughout the entire process and helped with any questions I had. Side story - the day I was supposed to depart for my trip, a volcano in Bali erupted and the airport closed indefinitely. My IVHQ coordinator Brigitte kept me informed along the way, sending me an email notification about the news (over the weekend no less) and a follow up once the situation was resolved. Thank you IVHQ for everything!
Hi Kiley, thank you for your review! I'm glad to hear that you felt well informed and prepared for your trip. We really appreciated your efforts in Bali and hope you choose to volunteer again one day! Brigitte - IVHQ Program Manager
Time of my life !!!
June 17, 2018by: NatalieIt was honestly the most amazing experience, I took part in the Bali kindergarten project in ubud and had the time of life. I met some amazing people and was pushed completely outside my comfort zone but I loved every minute. The children taught me so much, they had so much potential and it was a blessing to be a part of their lives.
Hi Natalie, That's really awesome to hear you had the time of your life. We really appreciate your review and in particular to hear how much the children taught you. We hope that you will volunteer with IVHQ again sometime! ^Brigitte - IVHQ Bali Program Manager
Life changing trip
May 25, 2018by: carlie quail - CanadaDo not miss out on Bali! IVGQ went above and beyond to make it a safe and special trio. It was so easy to get prepared and I made friends I will have for life. The orientation was so thorough and we were given a very authentic cultural experience. My main recommendation is to stay as long as you can.
Hi Carlie, it is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your time volunteering through IVHQ! We are glad we could make your first volunteering trip one to remember, and that you enjoyed working with the local community in Bali. We look forward to having you join us again soon! ^Brigitte - IVHQ Bali Program Manager

Bali 2017
December 25, 2017by: Emily - United StatesI spent two weeks volunteering with the Green Lion Bali through IVHQ, and I will never forget my time there. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, especially the staff, who were amazing. The organization of the project was really great as well--the first week is spent learning about the culture and customs of Bali and visiting various places in and around Ubud. This week really helped me get adjusted to Bali and understand more about the people and why the work I was doing was so important. For my volunteering week, I worked with a class of local kindergarteners, and they were so sweet! I absolutely loved every minute. The support I received from the staff and other volunteers made me feel confident and motivated the whole time I was there. I quickly made many friends, and we were able to have adventures around Bali together. After this trip, I am eager to travel and volunteer more in new and exciting places!
It's great to hear from you Emily, thank you for your great review! I am pleased to hear your experience will be one that you will never forget and that you made many friends on your trip. Amazing that you are keen to volunteer some more and IVHQ would love for you come on another journey with us! ^Brigitte - IVHQ Bali Program Manager
Rewarding experience
February 21, 2017by: Manja - GermanyI had never volunteered before so I did not know what to expect. Also I hadn't been to Asia, so everything was quite new for me when arriving. Bali however is absolutely beautiful. I felt right at home living with a big Indonesian family in an amazing room. The Balinese are friendly and peaceful and the religion and culture is absolutely fascinating. I had a great time in orientation week getting to know more about this culture. After orientation I arrived at the Kindergarten. The kids were shy at first as they hadn't really seen someone like me and also couldn't speak a word of English. Unlike m expectation I had to teach the whole time and not just play around with the kids. But once I got used to the thought it was actually really cool and pushed me a lot. I would still say break time was my favorite time as it gave me the chance to play with the kids and enjoy their smiles and laughter just having a lot of fun! I really enjoyed volunteering in Bali!
Hi Manja, Thanks for sharing. We are thrilled to hear that you really enjoyed your time volunteering in Bali and we thank you for rising to the challenge of teaching English to the children at your placement. It is lovely that you felt right at home with your large Indonesian family - we often get feedback that the local families are so friendly and welcoming. Thanks for being a great volunteer and we would love to have you join us again in the future.
Chloe – IVHQ Bali Program Manger
What an amazing week!
February 16, 2017by: Katie - AustraliaAt the start of February I completed the one week program in Ubud in Kindergarten. Though it was short - it has to be one of the best weeks of my life! The first 3 days were spent with the other new volunteers - get bearings around the area of Ubud as well as getting a better understanding of Balinese culture (including Bahasa classes, making flower offerings, Batik painting classes). Our coordinator at the time was Dwik - she was amazing and had the best sense of humour! The last 2 days of the week were the days I spent volunteering. This involved going to one of the local Kindergartens at around 8am and helping the teachers there. This ended at around 10.30am. My only wish is that the actual volunteering could have been longer - though the Kindergarten children are only at school for this long so it makes it harder! Still - this doesn't take away from the amazing experience I had! I made some amazing friends, met some amazing people, and even though it rained the whole time I wouldn't change a thing! The housing was good - 6 girls in one room with a shared bathroom. The sheets get changed weekly too which is nice. Only complaint is that the whole time I was there our house had zero wifi (despite complaints being made to volunteer company) even though it says on the program you get it. All in all, I would definitely recommend this program - I am tempted myself to go back and do it again.
Hi Katie, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on volunteering in Bali for one week. The one-week experience is quite unique and it is a great way to test out whether volunteering is right for you. It sounds like you enjoyed your experience and we would love to have you join us in Bali again!
Chloe – IVHQ Bali Program Manager
New level of respect for teachers
July 11, 2015by: Baliproject2015 - AshburnThis experience not only taught kindergarteners in Bali English, it, in turn taught me a whole lot of knowledge, including a whole other level of respect for teachers and I say that because it's not an easy task yet it is so rewarding to see the kids absorb all the information they're given, although what they're being taught may not be in their native tongue it's not hard to get them to comprehend the material, just a few pictures will do it. The program leaders helped immensly because they spoke an advanced enough English in order to help the kids understand you, and vice versa. I've got to say, I truly did have a blessed time in Bali. I feel humbled to have been able to volunteer my services to the children of Bali and I would love to continue going on missions of this type in the future. The feeling of accomplishment and pride felt is indescribable! Thank you IVHQ.
It’s great to hear from you! Thanks for sharing a little of your thoughts about your experience in Bali. We are glad that you were able to take so many positive things away from your volunteer experience. Thanks for sharing your photos as well.

You won't regret!
March 31, 2015by: Yu Xiang - BeijingThis is my first time volunteering abroad, traveling alone and experiencing such a wonderful 2 weeks. Before this trip, I wondered if I was making a right decision. But my worries vanished as soon as I came to Bali and became one of the IVHQers. I didn’t expect too much since this was a volunteer trip. However, honestly speaking, the accommodation was way beyond my expectation. I lived in a house of Balinese style where you can shower every day. Also, everything is super easy for tourists. Neat mini markets, laundries and authorized money changers are almost everywhere. What’s more, the staffs are really nice and will help you with all sorts of problems. The orientation week was fantastic. Unlike those normal tours, it gave me a great opportunity to have a better understanding of the genuine Balinese culture. As for the volunteering, you have plenty of time to prepare what to do and the local staffs will give you a hand when you have problems. It’s easy and flexible, so no worries. Surely there is something that, you might feel, could be better, like the food provided for the volunteers. But, after all, this is a volunteer trip with a very reasonable price, we cannot expect “too much”. Just be open-minded and you will enjoy it! Now, please let me tell you what you will get out of this volunteer trip. You will learn how to cooperate with people from other countries, harvest friendships transcending national boundaries, be surrounded by the local culture and have enough time to explore this amazing island. Join IVHQ and come to Bali! You won’t regret, trust me.
Hi Yu, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on our Bali program. You have shared some really good advice for future volunteers which is great. Thanks for being an IVHQer! We hope to see you on another of our volunteer programs again in the future.
Volunteering with Green lion Bali
February 03, 2015by: MarissaL - VancouverI volunteered with IVHQ/green lion Bali for four weeks and had a great time. The coordinators at green lion are very sweet and helpful, and I loved working with the kids at my kindergarten. When we first arrived at the school they spoke no English, making any communication difficult but we learned to adapt. I'm still having some issues extending my visa through green lion but other than that the experience has been amazing and I would defiantly recommend this program to anyone looking for an adventure.
Hi Marissa, Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your volunteer experience with IVHQ in Bali. We hope your visa extension went well. Thanks for volunteering with IVHQ!
