Early Childhood (Education/Social Services) Internships

Specializing in early childhood education? Apply your knowledge and skills in a real work setting anywhere in the world. Institute for Global Studies offers internship placements in various destinations—choose where you want to travel! Past interns have worked in traditional daycare settings, working with children ages three to six and facilitating all aspects of their day. Other interns have created reading programs and tailored these to current needs. They have also helped plan field trips and supervised excursions. IGS encourages host organizations to give the option to create and share any area of expertise, challenging interns to come up with original ideas on how to best help the children. Skills and attributes that may prove useful in this internship include the willingness to accept and implement the philosophy of giving, the ability and skill to communicate with people of different cultures, the ability to write and speak clearly, and the ability to work under conditions of stress and change.

Nepal - Teaching in Buddhist Monasteries

Explore beautiful Nepal, home to eight of the ten largest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest. Take a trip back in time when you visit the famous city of Kathmandu and navigate its winding, unpaved roads lined by terracotta-roofed homes. Nepal is a unique experience that you do not want to miss! Volunteers on this project will live near the monastery and teach English to the monks there a few hours each day. These monks are both children and adults, all of whom seek an interactive and all-inclusive learning environment. Volunteers' responsibilities may include assisting a local teacher, teaching a class of their own, coming up with creative and fun lesson plans and organizing after-school games and activities for the children

Projects Abroad in Nepal

Projects Abroad Nepal has projects in Teaching, Care, Himalayan Mountain Conservation & Environment, and Medicine & Healthcare. As one of the world's poorest countries, volunteers are desperately needed in Nepal to help out in its schools and hospitals. Our office is based in the bustling city of Kathmandu - a city full of jostling crowds, rickety ox carts, and noisy auto-rickshaws. Most of our volunteer placements are located here too, although some are located in more rural areas of the Kathmandu valley. We also have some medical projects based in the lowlands area of Chitwan. Volunteers in Nepal live with host families. Some families welcome up to four volunteers into their home, and you'll usually share a room with one other volunteer. A couple of families even take up to twelve volunteers and these homes offer an experience more similar to living in a hostel. Nepal is a small yet stunning land of snow-capped mountains, majestic old temples, and the colorful city of Kathmandu. The home of Mount Everest draped along the backbone of the Himalayas, Nepal entices all kinds of people and they don't go home disappointed.

It started with a Google search

It started with a Google search. I tried to look for ways to travel despite the pandemic. I am bored to death at home. I searched available internships on Google, and tadah the Institute for Global Studies came up. I was very hesitant at first, but the video call with Dr. Adams made me trust the organization. He assured me everything will be safe and sound. Fast forward, 1 week after my internship in Hawaii. I so missed the people there, the people I bonded the most, the children whom I taught English, and the IGS mentors I gained along the way. Glad that I did that Google search!
