Gap Year Programs in Australia & Oceania

Nothing spells gap year like Australia and Oceania! That’s not only for foreigners going there, but for the locals as well: Many years before gap year experiences became popular in the Americas and Europe, young people from Down Under would spend the year between high school and college traveling the world, working, and gaining global experience. Few places in the world are packed with as many exciting work and study opportunities, sport and adventure activities, and breathtaking sceneries as you will find during your gap year in Australia and Oceania!

Best Working Holiday intro tour program in Sydney, Australia

January 10, 2025by: Harry Smith - United StatesProgram: Sydney Intro Tour & Paid Working Holiday in Australia
10

Joining the Sydney Gap Year tour with Working Holiday Guide was one of the best decisions I’ve made for starting my working holiday in Australia. From the moment I arrived, the experience was well-organized and stress-free, allowing me to focus on enjoying the adventure and settling into my new surroundings. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned to provide everything I needed for a smooth transition into Australian life. The practical workshops on topics like setting up a bank account, applying for a tax file number, and job search tips were invaluable. These sessions gave me the confidence to hit the ground running as I began my working holiday journey. Exploring Sydney with a knowledgeable guide was a dream. We visited iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and Bondi Beach, while also discovering hidden gems that only locals seem to know about. The balance between structured activities and free time was perfect, giving me space to relax or dive deeper into what interested me. The social aspect of the tour was another highlight. I met an amazing group of people, and the bonds we formed made the experience even more special. If you’re starting a working holiday in Australia, I wholeheartedly recommend this tour. It’s fun, informative, and sets you up for success in every way!

A Guide to Gap Year in Australia and Oceania

Best Countries

Oceania comprises many countries, providing outstanding travel opportunities. From working in the Australian outback to helping to conserve marine reefs in Fiji, the possibilities are endless!

Australia. If you want to experience local life, work and travel programs are the way to go in Australia. Australia offers Working Holiday Visas that allow young people to travel and work in the country for one year. Here you will find a blend of spectacular beauty, thriving cultural life, and opportunities to engage in a variety of gap year experiences.

New Zealand. If adventures and nature are your cuppa, there is no better location than New Zealand for gap year programs in Australia and Oceania. From hiking to skiing, snowboarding to climbing, New Zealand is a paradise for adventure-seekers. Many gappers also choose to work in the tourist or hospitality industries—when they’re not flinging themselves off cliffs, that is.

Fiji. Who hasn’t dreamt of finding a new life on a remote island in the Pacific? Imagine a country with not one, but 300+ islands of white sand surrounded by sapphire waters...that’s Fiji. The capital of this remote archipelago is Suva, where you will enjoy its colonial architecture, tropical climate, and marriage of cultures.
