Most Rewarding Experience Ever

July 23, 2026by: Sai Shankar Sadhu - United States

This was the most amazing and most fun experience I have ever had. This is the first time I have traveled alone to a country I have never been to before, and it's been alone from family in a whole new place for a long time. Most people view interning abroad as just a resume builder, but it's honestly so much more than that. I've really grown as a person by becoming more independent and self-reliant. I've gone on amazing and cool excursions and made so many new friends. I've gotten to really love Australia over the couple of weeks I spent here, and I honestly wish I had spent more time there. I felt very sad to leave, and all of the other interns felt the same way. Australia is truly a wonderful place to live in, and I hope my future holds a place for Australia.

I had a fantastic time during my internship in Melbourne! The city’s café culture, great coffee, and vibrant, diverse community were highlights. Through The Intern Group, I made some amazing friends and had plenty of opportunities to learn and connect. My company turned out to be different from what I expected but in a really unique and positive way, which made the experience even more valuable. Perth, our experience coordinator, kept things fun and engaging throughout. Overall, it was an incredible experience, and I’m grateful for all the great people I met along the way.

My 10-week internship was an incredible success. Entering the experience with an open mind allowed me to truly reap its full benefits. The people I met, the fun I had, and the overall opportunity were all amazing. I've made numerous new friends and grown significantly more comfortable with myself, both personally and professionally. I'm thrilled to have secured full-time employment from it and now truly feel like a Melbournian. And... I just have to give a huge shoutout to Perth. She was truly phenomenal. Always a friendly face and ready to chat whenever we needed her. Her caring nature and bubbly personality made everything feel so welcoming, and she really knows her stuff about the city and the intern lifestyle. The experiences she planned for us were fantastic. Her punctuality and communication were always on point, and the work-life balance she promotes is something I'll carry with me in my own journey. I’m really going to miss hanging out with her and all the fun times we shared.

My Time in Melbourne

The Melbourne program was very organized and it was helpful whenever we needed anything from start to end, before the internship began and to the very end of the internship. It is an easy way to find an internship abroad which was helpful since i wouldn't know how to reach companies. I like that we would get a refund if we were not placed and I like that we didn’t have to pay to get accepted into the program.

Fun Times In Melbourne

I had an absolute blast working for Greenspace ESG for the last 10 weeks. The experience with both my employment and the Intern Group have been seamless and some of the best moments of my life. The genuine friends made along the way will be those that I keep close to myself for life, and the memories shared are at the pinnacle. I will miss Melbourne and its quirks as I return to the United States. I will miss Perth, the Experience Coordinator and all those involved with my time in country, as they made the trips and experiences that much more enjoyable. Within my internship, I have learned a whole new aspect to my university major, marine biology, involving hydroponics and the change from seed to crop. These teachings have not only opened my mind to other employment opportunities in this field, but has allowed me to earn university credits back home. I have fell in love with Australia and everything that has occurred while here, and cannot wait to continue my studies back home to return here one day.

My six weeks internship in Melbourne

My six-week journey in Melbourne with The Intern Group and Tasty Fresh has been an unforgettable experience filled with professional growth, cultural immersion, and personal development. This opportunity not only provided me with invaluable work experience but also allowed me to explore the vibrant city of Melbourne. This internship experience has significantly contributed to my personal development. Living independently in a new city, let alone a new country, taught me essential life skills such as independance, time management, budgeting, and adaptibility. Navigating through challenges and stepping out of my comfort zone helped build my confidence. During my internship with Tasty Fresh, I had multiple projects such as Ethical Hacking, Raspberry Pi Devices, Software Development, Web Development and Electrical Engineering. This provided me with a variety of skills that I have developed over the 6 week internship. Working with colleagues from different backgrounds and cultures broadened my perspective and enhanced my ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural setting. Some of the most memorable experiences was Interacting with Australia’s iconic wildlife such as feeding kangaroos and meeting koalas. Visiting the Melbourne Skydeck offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. The vineyard tour was a delightful excursion where I learned about local wine production and enjoyed tasting some of the region’s finest wines. It was a perfect blend of education and leisure. Attending an Australian Football League (AFL) game was an exciting, confusing and immersive experience. The energy and passion of the fans were contagious, it gave me a deep appreciation for Australia’s sports culture. My six-week internship in Melbourne with The Intern Group and Tasty Fresh has been transformative. The professional skills I gained, the cultural experiences I enjoyed, and the personal growth I achieved have all contributed to making this journey a pivotal chapter in my career and personal life. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking an enriching internship experience.

Best 6 month experience!

November 21, 2019by: Kate Sasser - United States

I would completely recommend this experience! I spent 6 months in Melbourne and had the time of my life! From a work perspective, I thought the placement was perfect for me. Before I went, I made it clear what type of job and what industry I wanted and they set that up perfectly. People in my program were either doing a gap year or gaining work experience after college and everyone seemed happy with their situation. Since I was committing to half a year in Australia, I was nervous at first with finding friends and meeting people other than co-workers. However, the intern group made it so easy for me- I met people from all over the world instantly. They have a bunch of included events and optional events that are all so fun and different which gives you a chance to experience the city while making lifelong bonds with people. Even though the apartment complex wasn't too nice, I thought the great location and the fact that you meet local students was totally worth it. I was too busy having so much fun in the complex lobby and in the city with friends that I was hardly ever in my room! Overall, Melbourne is the best city ever! It has everything you could ever ask for in both city life and nearby beautiful nature. I loved it so much that I am now coming back for grad school for 3 more years. This experience changed my life!

The best 8 weeks ever!

November 12, 2019by: Katie McWilliams - Scotland

I spent 8 weeks in Melbourne for my internship and it was a fantastic experience which I would fully recommend! From day one, you feel instantly welcomed and supported by the intern team and you get to meet lots of other interns there too which is a great way to make friends. There are also loads of social events going on where you get to meet lots of new people such as the Yarra valley wine tour, going to the Marvel stadium to watch a game of Aussie footie or going to to the wildlife sanctuary. My internship was with an energy consulting firm. The firm was very friendly, inviting and really made you feel part of the team. I got to be a part of meetings, reviews and got a really helpful insight into consulting. It's hard not to love Melbourne, living there for 8 weeks was amazing. There is always something going on from Christmas markets to music festivals. You can cuddle koalas and visit some local penguins. It's great for food, art, music and shops. Even walking around the city is fun and interesting with all the street art and live music. There is no need to travel beyond Melbourne but if you have never been to Australia and you are excited to explore and get to see different places, it is also very easy to travel around. I visited Sydney and Cairns during my time there which were both incredible experiences.

Once in a lifetime opportunity with The Intern Group

October 20, 2017by: Danny Alexander - United States

My experiences with The Intern Group, in Melbourne Australia, were fantastic. I made new friends immediately, starting with a shared cab with other interns on my flight into Melbourne. Arriving into a foreign country by yourself can be intimidating, but The Intern Grouo made the transition a smooth as possible with social activities and an informative orientation. The accommodations met expectations, and it was convenient having an on-site dining option. My finance internship provided me transferable knowledge and skills that I continue to utilize in my academics and further recruitment efforts. The Intern Group was very accommodating and well organized. Holistically the experience was one-of-a-kind, providing both valuable internship experience and engaging social aspects. I truly recommend this program to anyone interested in a unique, dynamic work environment alongside an opportunity to explore the gem that is Melbourne.

It will be aite!!!

October 02, 2017by: Kalifa Howard

I can truly say at the beginning I was nervous and secretly apprehensive about interning abroad. I wasn't in a healthy place mentally at the time and took a risk in coming to Melbourne, which to some seemed foolish. Thankfully, I put aside negative thoughts and opinions and took a "it will be aite" approach to my journey. Interning in Melbourne was everything I dreamed it could be. I worked hard I played harder, but in the those three months (which all my coworkers said was a short time) I learnt more about myself than I have in a long time. Interning abroad challenges you to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life and discover your passion for life and adventure. There is so much to say about Melbourne, it is a very liveable and welcoming city, which I had the pleasure of exploring and learnt to love as my adopted home. As for The Intern Group Melbourne, they went out of there way to be inviting and helpful, which was key for my program being such a success. While the living conditions weren't all that's its cracked up to be it forces you to wander around the city and you spend less time in there than you realise. Overall this journey was a success for me because I met new people, embraced a new culture and learned/reinforced work skills needed for future achievements. Melbourne is a city that has captured my heart and plays key part in my story going forward in life.

What an exhilarating experience!

I completed a Finance internship with a Wealth Advisory firm which was such an eye opening internship and really made me realise what I don't know and encouraged work even harder through my 6 weeks. The social aspect was just amazing! Met some really really great people some of which will even help you in your future endeavours! Definitely worth it, would highly recommend to anyone thinking of doing this program. The only improvement I would suggest is the accomodation. It was sufficient however could've been better in terms of facilities. Overall what a great summer!

I chose to undertake an international internship as I wanted to get the most out of my last summer before starting full time employment. Travelling and seeing new things is one of my major passions, as is personal development, and so the opportunity to do an internship in Australia was too good to pass up. Even though I already had a job lined up after graduation, I was eager to build on my international work experience beforehand in order to provide the best chances for both short and long-term success. The internship did just that, and so much more.
