Locations
Formerly a Soviet state composing half of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic gained independent recognition in 1993. It is a fairly small nation, with a population of just over 10 million people. There are a few large cities in the Czech Republic, while the rest of the landscape is marked by serene rivers and low-lying mountain ranges.
Prague is the most popular city where you can earn a degree abroad in the Czech Republic. The nation’s capital is home to almost a quarter of the Czech population and has a reputation as one of the most livable cities in all of Europe. A rebellious, upbeat spirit underlies life in Prague, where you can tour medieval castles and 19th century concert halls on the same day as venturing out into the world famous nightlife.
While a good number of the country’s most prestigious universities are also located in Prague, other major cities with good schools where you can earn a degree abroad in the Czech Republic include Brno, Ostrava, and Plzen. There are more than 70 universities located across the Czech Republic, and every year around 40,000 international students enroll in the higher education system. Take the time to look through all the great degree abroad programs in Czech Republic that are out there!
Academics & Degrees
An academically rich country, international students come pursuing all different types of degrees abroad in the Czech Republic. You can enroll locally at both public and private universities, though the Czech Republic’s public universities generally are more prestigious and affordable than private ones.
Some of the most popularly pursued degrees abroad in the Czech Republic include those in Communications, International Relations, Economics, Art History, and Literature. However, by enrolling at a full university you will have the opportunity to pursue any degree that is offered.
A major limiting factor of what academic opportunity is available in the Czech Republic will be how fluent you are in the language. While some degree abroad programs in the Czech Republic are offered in English, most national universities utilize Czech as the medium of education. If you know you want to pursue a degree abroad in the Czech Republic, now is the time to start brushing up on the language!
Most deadlines for pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the Czech Republic occur in February or March in advance of the upcoming school year. You may also be required to take an entrance examination upon admittance into a Czech University. The academic year is in line with most other Western countries, with semesters generally running from August/September through December and January through May/June.
Scholarships & Costs
Great news – a public university education in the Czech Republic is free for students of all nations. Additional fees may apply, however, if you are going through an English speaking degree abroad program. You will also have to pay for books and general living expenses. For information about what financial aid opportunities are available while earning a degree abroad in the Czech Republic, check out our Scholarship Directory.
Accommodation & Visas
Dormitories are the most popular form of accommodation for international students pursuing a degree abroad in the Czech Republic. You may also want to move off campus at some point during your tenure, in which case it will be most affordable to live with roommates. As the country is still gaining ground economically, renting an apartment in the Czech Republic is generally less expensive than in other major European countries.
Students coming from within the European Union do not need a visa to earn a degree abroad in the Czech Republic, while those coming from other countries will need to apply for a student visa. For more information on this process you can check out our Czech Embassy Directory.
Benefits & Challenges
Regional Specialist – Admittedly, Czech is not a popularly spoken international language. However by studying in the country full time and becoming fluent, you will be setting yourself up for ample future employment opportunities in the Czech Republic.
Stay Central – Anchored in the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic is the prototypical Central European country. Smack between Eastern and Western Europe, you will get a taste of the best of both worlds while earning your degree abroad here.
Live History – The Czech Republic has seen countless regime changes throughout its long and complex past, yet has always held onto a distinct cultural identity. Earning a degree abroad in the Czech Republic will expose you to the fascinating story of this country’s development.

Why Moving Abroad to UNYP Was Totally Worth It
March 19, 2026by: Laura Holičová - SlovakiaProgram: Bachelor of Communication & Media
I came to UNYP wondering if I would even make friends, but the community here exceeded all my expectations – by the first week I already had people I still hang out with regularly. Starting my 4th year in Communication & Media, I’m so glad I made the decision to move abroad and try studying somewhere completely different. The teachers and staff are incredibly supportive and approachable, treating you like an adult and encouraging open discussions where you can share your opinions, even if they differ from others. The courses are engaging and interactive, giving plenty of opportunities to develop practical skills. Beyond academics, there are numerous clubs, activities, and events that make campus life lively and fun.

June 28, 2025by: MD SHEPON HOSSAIN - BangladeshProgram: Master's Degree in Finance
Studying the Master’s Degree in Finance at Masaryk University has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. The program provided a strong balance between theoretical frameworks and practical applications, helping me deeply understand core topics such as corporate finance, financial analysis, accounting, and international economics. The professors are knowledgeable, supportive, and always willing to engage in discussions that challenge your thinking. I particularly appreciated the diverse classroom environment, where students from various backgrounds brought different perspectives to financial topics. Beyond academics, living in Brno was a unique experience. The city is student-friendly, affordable, and culturally vibrant. I also had the opportunity to work part-time, which allowed me to gain real-world experience and apply what I learned in class. Overall, this program not only helped me grow academically and professionally but also personally. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to broaden their financial knowledge in a global context. Thank you, Masaryk University and Econ MUNI.

Great Experience
June 27, 2025by: Aaron Wedlich - GermanyProgram: Master's in Business Management
My time at the faculty of economics was definitely a good one. After arriving in a new country, I needed some time to warm up but, fortunately, I know some Czechs who kindly included me in the Czech life and culture. Although the level of complexity was not as high as I expected and as I was used to from my Bachelor's, I really appreciate the practical approach during the courses. Working with real-life cases, projects and learn useful management tools really improved my understanding of these topics. Overall, it was a good time and I am thankful for the support from the uni and professors during the courses and administrative obstacles.
Thank you for your kind words, Aaron!

Disclaimer: no sugar coating, going to tell all good and bad about ECON MUNI. I am a master's level student specializing in business management and have a very brief professional experience in tech sales. I know you all expected to know general information about studying in Czech and Masaryk university but I love to go in details, I mean that's what our professors love: more passion more energy in your reports and presentation :)) . Thanks to this, as a student from Faculty of Economics I know inside out of the subjects I am studying so we can be the best future leaders and managers. I am especially grateful about the courses with seminars/labs to teach us real skills that connect academia and professional journey ahead us in the corporate world. I am talking about my favorite ERP course and university has given us access to dynamics 365 business central by Microsoft yes you heard that right in which you can get hands on experience for Financial management Sales Marketing Supply chain management Project management and a lot more I am talking about just one course and there are large number of courses the faculty offers to us with all the learning materials we need. On top of that, there is no restriction in exploring your interests and pursuing courses at other faculties. All in all, I think Masaryk university is the best place to study and become your best self!

Turning point in my life
December 18, 2024by: Asad Kozibaev - UzbekistanI divide my life into two parts, one is before I came here, the Czech Republic, and after. Firstly, I changed as a person significantly. Back at home, I thought our country is the center of the world, everyone knows about us and so on. Coming here, I realised that we are not that actually, there is a lot to do in tourism. Okay speaking of my social life, here you will make friends from all around the world, from every corner of this wonderful world. This means immersing yourself to different cultures, religions, perspectives, preferences, customs or values. Imagine how your horizon changes after all this, it is amazing to feel how your stereotypes are broken every single day about so many things. What else, coming here I developed a new hobby, travelling! Believe this is the best hobby ever to develop! Especially Czech Republic, located at Central Europe, has a relatively easy access to some wonderful jewels of Europe, such as Vienna, Warsaw, Berlin or Budapest. Academically speaking, Masaryk University has a high quality education with an affordable price. Degree programs are lot. Studying them is really an enjoyable experience, professors are always willing to help you, very professional. Information System works perfectly well, where you get access to important daily emails, information all about your studies, grades, performance, exams and everything. Well what else, it’s not only studying here in one place, there are a bunch of opportunities to go abroad for study and internships, such as Erasmus+ or outside Europe programs. About city of Brno, it’s a very cozy city with a lot of students, most of whom know speak English perfectly. People are warm and willing to help everywhere. Oh not to mention transportation system, never seen such a perfectly organised public transportation system in my life. You have an easy access to any corner of the city anytime with reasonable monthly price. On a personal level, studying abroad gives you the chance to challenge yourself, grow as an individual. You live here away from your loved ones, childhood friends, different culture, food, activities, I mean different environment. You don’t need to challenge yourself artificially, because every single day here comes with another adventure, problems to deal with, interesting dilemmas to choose one from. There is a lot to mention, but these are the ones I liked a lot here. I’m sure I will be missing all these moments as good old days.

Unyp life, good life
September 09, 2024by: Karin Stupeňová - SlovakiaProgram: Bachelor of Psychology
Nee york university in Pragur is a great university with many options. Drudents are provided plenty events throughout the semester that provides opportunities for students to meet new people, culture and get to know the city better
The best decision I've made so far.
September 09, 2024by: Aneta Fleischerová - Czech RepublicUNYP offers a blend of American and European education with small classes, international faculty, and modern facilities in Prague, providing a multicultural and practical learning environment. UNYP emphasizes a holistic approach to education, focusing on developing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The multicultural environment not only enhances learning but also prepares students for global careers, making the experience at UNYP both academically rewarding and culturally enriching.
Met interesting people
August 29, 2024by: Anna Bořková - Czech RepublicProgram: Bachelor of Psychology
At UNYP I found some people that became my friends. Especially regarding the psychology bachelor's degree, I find that the people were most of the times, very outgoing, warm and welcoming. There are a few exceptional professors at UNYP who make learning about psychology fun and engaging. One more reason to join there class. There is a wide variety of courses to choose from, but one has to be careful with statistics, and some other courses, because those are sometimes taught by professors that do not have a background in psychology. Also the financial strain is a bit larger, so it is important to keep that in mind. On the other hand, UNYP has a plenty of options of going abroad on the Erasmus programme, and I must say, that the Erasmus programme in Spain, Madrid, was a total blast. In other words, if you would like to meet interesting people on this degree, this is the place for you (just beware of the exam week - all exams happen during the last week of the semester and it is not a fun experience).
Very difficult but wonderful
August 09, 2024by: Nicole Ivanchin - IsraelProgram: Bachelor of Psychology
Price of uni, housing, and not understandable health care. Those are incredibly hard. The studies are interesting and Czech Republic is wonderful. I don't regret it, but it's difficult, especially when you do everything alone, and try to work and study just to afford a better life
The best 4 years of my life
August 09, 2024by: Chiara Jurkovičová - SlovakiaProgram: Bachelor of Communication & Media
UNYP truly was the best choice I could have made for my studies. I never thought I could enjoy school so much, yet I walked in that building with a smile on my face each day. It was the professors, my classmates who became my closest friends, the environment, everything. UNYP was everything. I will always remember it as the happiest and best 4 years of my life.
Best time of my life
April 10, 2024by: Jasna Brkic - SerbiaProgram: Master's in Business Management
I studied full 2-year master program at Masaryk University and had the best time of my life! I absolutely loved the program of my studies, as it helped me improve in areas that I wanted to grow and gave me great start for my career. Big part of my phenomenal experience are people: from my fellow study colleagues that are my friends for life now, to profesors and study coordinators that really contributed to learning Czech culture, having fun times and learning in positive environment. I cannot even describe in short words how this changed my life both personally and professionally, and I would recommend to everybody to study at Masaryk University. Not only for the quality education, but also for being able to enjoy great opportunities as student in Brno, for absorbing beauties of Czechia and meeting so many different cultures all in one place!
EconMuni is a home

Experience that you will not regret
March 19, 2020by: Viktória Soročinová - SlovakiaProgram: Economics and Public Policy (EPP)
I’m recently a student of the program Economics and Public Policy (EPP). The main reason why I’m currently studying EPP is that I already had an experience with its Bachelor’s version- Economics (ECON). EPP is offering a large scale of the subjects, which is making the whole study attractive. Several courses are thought only for our group. Individual approach of teachers is perfect because you don’t have to hesitate to ask any questions and you can easily find all necessary answers almost immediately. Combination of advanced level of microeconomics and macroeconomics as well as courses like Behavioural Finance, Competition Policy and Regulation or even Economics and Psychology and Drugs in Economics showing the field of economics in many different ways. The University of Economics and mainly EPP is a very good option for everyone whose priority is highly ranked university and international environment that can provide you a valuable experience and a strong sense of responsibility. These are just a few reasons why I would highly recommend studying this program.
What are you waiting for?
March 19, 2020by: Koen Durlinger - NetherlandsProgram: Master in International and Diplomatic Studies (IDS)
The IDS program from VSE in Prague was ideal for me because of several reasons: 1. The degree itself managed to merge political science with economic policy, which has my particular interest. A combination like this makes it challenging to construct a though trough argument in the different papers you need to write, as well as interesting as the teachers provide sufficient guidance towards new perspectives. 2. The city of Prague. Whether it's the tough love from the Czech inhabitants, the vibrant cosmopolitan scene combined with a very traditional outlook, or the exploration of the city during the weekends: Prague is a one in a million and I miss it every day. 3. The full degree abroad. Although internships and short-term studies helped me gather my experience abroad, this was different. It felt like home, it felt way better at times and way worse at others. I felt the pride of being a resident of Prague and a student of IDS. Needless to say, that this is the reason that I'm writing this. So, what are you waiting for? I could name 50 more reasons if you’re willing to listen. But it’s better to experience it yourself!

Highly recommended
March 19, 2020by: Samuel Ryckenberg - SwedenI would definitely recommend my program to others. There are two main reasons for this. The first reason is that I had two amazing years that I really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the time that I spent both in school and outside school. All the classes are good which keeps you motivated and the program is well structured so that you know what to expect. The second reason is that when you graduate you have really good chances of landing a good and highly paid job. I had success in working in Sweden within accounting and the Czech Republic within finance after I graduated.
