Contribute to providing significant care and support to animals in Arusha, Tanzania, and understand the conditions of animals to effectively educate others on animal rights. This program will help you to work in varied ways toward the prevention of abuse and neglect while providing hands-on care for animals in need. Volunteers may either choose to work on the animal welfare campaign or in the animal shelter, or do both! The shelter cares for large numbers of puppies and fully grown dogs and some cats and, at the same time, works on research. The awareness programs protect animals from cruelty by promoting, improving, and developing matters concerning the welfare of animals. Advocate for the five freedoms of animals namely: from hunger and thirst; from discomfort, pain, injury, and disease; from fear and distress; and to express normal behavior. Add a valuable purpose to the locals while developing personally and professionally by learning about animal rights. This volunteer program takes place in Arusha, Tanzania and brings veterinarians, animal health experts, and final-year students into communities to support humane, practical animal-welfare education. Volunteers work with Voices for Animal Welfare (VfAW), an international NGO connecting Africa and Europe to advance animal protection. You will help prepare teaching materials, lead sessions in schools and community settings, and assist with awareness events. The role is fully teaching-focused and does not involve surgery. Fieldwork is varied, so flexibility and cultural adaptability are important. This placement is ideal for volunteers with training or experience in veterinary medicine, animal health, or animal care. Practical experience with farm animals or pets is especially useful. Volunteers receive safety and cultural orientation and ongoing support throughout their stay. The Animal Welfare program is based in Northern Tanzania. It surveys ten villages in the district with the goal of enhancing the current animal welfare status. The survey aims to provide an empirical foundation and make strategic decisions involving the allocation of project resources and the design of various components. The program was established to address the five freedoms of animals, of which most farmers in the area are not aware: - from hunger and thirst - from discomfort - from pain, injury, and disease - from fear and distress - to express normal behavior Community members in Tanzania do not have animals as pets, with all animals considered as food, business, or guarding. By volunteering in this project, you are in turn supporting a business and family. Tasks you may be doing within the day can include treating wounds; training local staff; and carrying out vaccinations, autopsies, and checkups. You also have an amazing experience of working with Maasai tribes, wherein you treat their animals and provide care training. Volunteers give a direct contribution of $100 to the center.

CERFO’s Environmental Conservation Program, based in Akheri Village, Arusha–Tanzania, focuses on restoring local ecosystems and promoting sustainable community practices. The program works with local residents, schools, and youth groups to protect natural resources and strengthen resilience against environmental challenges. Key activities include tree planting, waste management education, sustainable agriculture training, and protection of water sources. Volunteers engage directly with households and community institutions to promote recycling, soil conservation, and climate-smart farming.
