Volunteering in Orphanages in Tanzania

Tanzania and other sub-Saharan African countries are badly affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. As a result, the number of orphans and street children is growing. Thousands of orphaned children who suffer from extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, and hopelessness often leave their villages and travel to Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Moshi, and other cities. However, they often end up worse off on the street. Efforts have been made by various local organizations to protect these children by offering much-needed education as well as skills development training. While there are orphanages taking in these kids, they lack resources and are understaffed. Some don’t have enough finances to provide basic needs, including food. Not all of the children attend school due to the lack of sponsors who can pay for uniforms, books, and school supplies. This is why we seek volunteers who can provide financial and physical support to orphanages and shelters in Tanzania. Join us and help in providing a secure, loving environment for vulnerable kids.

Friends and Childcare Supporter

The vulnerable children in Tanzania always need extra support. Given that schools and daycare centers are underfunded with limited resources, this Childcare Project always appreciates any support, love, and care provided as well as any advancements to enhance the capacity of the institutions. Volunteers work with placement directors and other local staff, for which we require full cooperation. The Childcare Project involves teaching, playing with, and caring for the children and assisting teachers and staff in providing basic education, teaching hygiene, and healthy living. Volunteers assist with other activities like cooking and cleaning. They also help with implementing class schedules, creating class decorations, and enhancing the capacity of the centers by supporting the advancement of administrative departments. Participation in any of these activities depends on how comfortable you are with tending to the task provided. If you feel uncomfortable with a task, it is okay to be substituted by a staff member. Volunteers give a direct contribution of $50 to the center.
