With up to ten other international volunteers you will teach English to children, teachers and other community leaders, encourage and support women’s empowerment and work alongside HIV/AIDS organizations to help raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Volunteers will sing, dance, play and help the children to develop their creative skills through the mediums of drawing, coloring and painting. You will help with the schools’ general maintenance to provide a pleasant learning environment for its students. You will work among our many different projects. Current projects include but are not limited to working with the nursery and primary schools, after-school clubs and Kiwakukki which is a HIV/AIDS group which originally was established to support women in the community who suffered from HIV/AIDS.

Widows Encouragement & HIV/AIDS Foundation (WEHAF) is an NGO based in Arusha, Tanzania, working to uplift vulnerable women, widows, and children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. Since 2017, we have been creating opportunities for empowerment, education, and sustainable development through community-driven programs. Volunteers at WEHAF get involved in a wide range of activities depending on their interests and skills. This volunteer program by KVT places you in Tanzania, where you will work in an orphanage and assist in the care of kids and teens. They have lost their parents due to various reasons, including accidents and deadly diseases (i.e., HIV/AIDS). The orphanage is located within a local community, and you will help with daily activities as well as educate widows, youth, and people living with HIV/AIDS. You will contribute to our efforts in educating locals on how to take care of themselves. Together with other volunteers, you will also visit homes and teach households – especially those dealing with HIV/AIDS – about health issues. This is an empowerment program based in Tanzania. In this program, volunteers with good hearts and an open mind are needed. Empowering Women and Girls is a program designed to strengthen groups who come from a truly heartbreaking background; from being shamed for being HIV positive to abandonment due to assault, and a level of poverty that will be hard for most people from the Western world to imagine. The goals are to help women become self-sufficient and to recruit and help more. Some of the volunteer opportunities are community work, counseling for HIV victims and home victims, palliative care, and youth programs such as healthcare training in schools and communities. This project also involves teaching women skills such as gardening, crafts, English, entrepreneurship, business, IT, and finance. Participation in any of these activities depends on how comfortable you are with tending to the task provided. If you feel uncomfortable with a task, it is okay to be substituted by a member of staff. To volunteer, you need to directly give a $100 contribution to the center.

CERFO’s Environmental Conservation Program, based in Akheri Village, Arusha–Tanzania, focuses on restoring local ecosystems and promoting sustainable community practices. The program works with local residents, schools, and youth groups to protect natural resources and strengthen resilience against environmental challenges. Key activities include tree planting, waste management education, sustainable agriculture training, and protection of water sources. Volunteers engage directly with households and community institutions to promote recycling, soil conservation, and climate-smart farming. The program also supports biodiversity preservation through awareness campaigns, community clean-ups, and the development of green public spaces. Participants gain hands-on experience in rural environmental stewardship while contributing to long-term ecological improvement. This program gives you the chance to take real action by educating communities about family planning, HIV prevention, and female rights—especially in rural Maasai areas. You'll work directly with safe homes for girls who have escaped forced marriages, rape, or other forms of violence. Through outreach in schools and villages, you’ll help raise awareness and empower local women and girls to claim their rights and live free from harm. Most volunteers join Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., leaving you plenty of time to explore Tanzania.
