Volunteer Teaching in Nepal

Nepal is a developing country where more than 40% of the total population lives below the poverty line. Thousands of small children are deprived of educational opportunities because of social issues and the lack of schooling opportunities. Help address this problem by volunteering at understaffed and under-resourced schools, where you'll teach English. You could also work on community education projects in a variety of locations across the country. Upon arrival, you will join an orientation in Kathmandu. During this time, you will live with a host family, learn basic Nepali, and explore the Kathmandu Valley. Optional side trips such as trekking, rafting, and a jungle safari are available.

English Teaching Pokhara, Nepal

You will teach at small local schools and participate in extra-curricular activities to inspire students and broaden their perspectives through creatively structured lessons. You are welcome to use different methods to teach, but you can use the course book as a reference. If you wish, you can teach them other subjects such as mathematics, history, science, geography, computer, technologies, music, arts and crafts, personal development, environment awareness, general health and safety, etc. All higher education in Nepal is in English, making it vitally important for children to learn English to continue their higher education. During the project, you will gain valuable experience and learn by observing the methods of the local teachers. The project can take place in either government, private, or community schools around Pokhara. Generally, you will be teaching four to five classes a day. The standard curriculum can often be a little ‘dull’, so any creative activities and games to get the kids in the mood for learning are much appreciated!

Children’s Development Program

The basic need for a children's development program stems from the following facts about Nepal. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, with approximately 25% of its population living below the poverty line. Therefore, the fundamental rights of many community children are often not met. Most children in rural communities aged 3 to 5 lack access to quality education. Approximately 5% of children never attend school. The children who attend school often drop out before completing high school. Only 46.2% of children complete their high school education. They instead help at home, support household chores, and babysit while their parents work on the farm. 37.4% of children aged 5 to 17 are involved in agricultural labor, with a significant proportion working on their family farms. 26.3% of children aged 10 to 18 are married or in a union with their partner. So, the children’s development is not well in place.

Volunteer Nepal - Child Care (Orphanage) Project

Contribute to the Orphanage Project run by Friends for Asia. You will be placed in a program where you can make a real difference. Through education and interaction, participants are able to transform the lives of disadvantaged children yearly. Dedication and enthusiasm are a must for the challenging role. For the right person, it is a truly profound experience. We place our volunteers at a number of children's homes and orphanages throughout the Kathmandu valley. You will live at the home full-time for the duration of the project, truly immersing them in the day-to-day life of a Nepal orphanage. Volunteering in Nepal - A Day in the Life The life of a child care volunteer is often a demanding one and it can be "go, go, go" from dusk to dawn. Responsibilities vary from home to home and often involve simply interacting and playing with the kids. Many homes will be empty during school hours, though there will often be sick children to care for. After school hours, the children will need to be fed and helped with their homework, followed by games, songs and other activities to keep them stimulated until bedtime.

IVHQ Nepal Program - An Awesome Experience

December 16, 2025by: Marcio Pinto - United StatesProgram: Volunteer in Nepal from US$285 — 11 Projects Available

I truly credit IVHQ with one of the most meaningful and unforgettable experiences I’ve had abroad. From the very start of the application process, everything was seamless and filled me with excitement. I chose to volunteer with children with special needs in Kathmandu in the fall of 2025, and IVHQ made the entire journey incredibly smooth and stress-free. My program manager was outstanding—always responsive, supportive, and helpful whenever I had questions. I never felt rushed, had more than enough time to complete all requirements, and appreciated the clear guidance every step of the way. The IVHQ website is extremely well organized and easy to navigate, and the timely reminders about deadlines were incredibly helpful. Once in Nepal, the experience exceeded all my expectations. I absolutely loved my homestay family—the accommodations were comfortable, the family was warm and welcoming, and the homemade Nepali food was delicious. This experience had such a positive impact on me that I am already planning to return to Nepal next year to volunteer again. I am deeply grateful to the entire IVHQ team for their professionalism, care, and dedication. They truly made this experience special, rewarding, and unforgettable.
