Projects Abroad Nepal has projects in Teaching, Care, Himalayan Mountain Conservation & Environment, and Medicine & Healthcare. As one of the world's poorest countries, volunteers are desperately needed in Nepal to help out in its schools and hospitals. Our office is based in the bustling city of Kathmandu - a city full of jostling crowds, rickety ox carts, and noisy auto-rickshaws. Most of our volunteer placements are located here too, although some are located in more rural areas of the Kathmandu valley. We also have some medical projects based in the lowlands area of Chitwan. Volunteers in Nepal live with host families. Some families welcome up to four volunteers into their home, and you'll usually share a room with one other volunteer. A couple of families even take up to twelve volunteers and these homes offer an experience more similar to living in a hostel. Nepal is a small yet stunning land of snow-capped mountains, majestic old temples, and the colorful city of Kathmandu. The home of Mount Everest draped along the backbone of the Himalayas, Nepal entices all kinds of people and they don't go home disappointed.

Our volunteer abroad programs in Nepal are centered in and around Kathmandu, the fabled capital surrounded by mystical peaks, serene monasteries, blessed with a cosmopolitan culture and cuisine. Volunteer programs in Nepal directly help in remedying the socio-economic issues of the country by offering locals helping hands and also income that comes through volunteer bookings. Our key volunteer projects in Nepal are our Monk English Teaching and Women Empowerment Programs. Other programs of interest include Medical and Nursing volunteering (ideal for pre-med or pre-nursing students) and volunteering at a Dog and Animal Care shelter. Family Volunteering in Nepal is also possible for parents and children of any age group.

The basic need for a children's development program stems from the following facts about Nepal. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, with approximately 25% of its population living below the poverty line. Therefore, the fundamental rights of many community children are often not met. Most children in rural communities aged 3 to 5 lack access to quality education. Approximately 5% of children never attend school. The children who attend school often drop out before completing high school. Only 46.2% of children complete their high school education. They instead help at home, support household chores, and babysit while their parents work on the farm. 37.4% of children aged 5 to 17 are involved in agricultural labor, with a significant proportion working on their family farms. 26.3% of children aged 10 to 18 are married or in a union with their partner. So, the children’s development is not well in place.
