Program Overview

Our volunteer program offers impactful opportunities to support the nunnery's daily operations, contribute to educational activities at the school, and participate in vital local environmental conservation projects. Volunteers work directly alongside community members to drive meaningful change. Location: -Primary Site (Bigu, Nepal): The historic Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery (Bigu Gompa) is located in the remote Bigu VDC, Dolakha District, Nepal (approximately 100 miles northeast of Kathmandu near the Tibet border). -Kathmandu Valley Center: The Himalayan Guge Organization (HGO) headquarters and secondary nunnery community operations are based in Kathmandu, Nepal (P.O. Box 1117 / Swayambhu). Timing & Availability: -Visiting Hours: The main temple, community restaurant, and local shop are open to visitors daily year-round. -Volunteer Placements: Volunteer programs run year-round with flexible start dates and custom durations ranging from short-term service visits to extended multi-month placements.
