Construction Volunteering Opportunities in Ghana

Volunteering in construction projects is challenging. Volunteers will engage in construction activities such as digging, plastering, block shaping, brick molding, concrete mixing, steel bending, wiring, chiseling, mixing sand and cement, brick laying, carrying bricks, fetching water, and painting school buildings. They will be led and work together with local skilled craftsmen/artisans who will be providing free labor for the improvement of their communities. Volunteers work with locals to ensure these projects are completed and meet the needs of the people they are benefiting. You may find that the way you are used to working on building projects back home can be different from this experience; the materials used are often a bit simpler, and there can be limited tools for construction. Additionally, work schedules are not always the same as you might imagine them to be in your country, so get ready to test your cross-cultural knowledge. Perfect for short-term volunteering, this program doesn’t require skills. Make a meaningful impact, even within a week. Make sure to bring gloves, a flashlight, sun protection (such as a scarf or hat), insect repellent, boots, and water bottles.

Great experience volunteering in HuaHin

December 17, 2025by: Judith Hibbert - United KingdomProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!

I had a great time in Thailand volunteering through IVHQ. Their pre departure checklists and videos were really helpful, and gave me confidence. The handover to the local team was seamless, with pickups and transport working really well. During the placement, the accommodation was great, with a good range of extra activities to get involved in during our downtime. In my third week, I transferred to a private room, as my boyfriend joined, and this again was seamless, with local pickups and drop offs only a whatsapp away. And the placement itself was sooo rewarding! I did construction and renovation which was sometimes tough in the heat, but well worth it to see the gratitude on the faces of the pupils and teachers at the kindergarten.
