How to Study Abroad in Seville
Program Options
Founded in in the year 1505 and presently home to a body of over 65,000 students, the University of Seville is the city’s premier academic establishment. There are several other smaller Spanish and international colleges located throughout the city as well, and many study abroad programs in Seville even have their own satellite schools where classes are taught in English and custom-tailored to the city’s considerable international student population.
Regardless of where you study in Seville, most study abroad programs in Seville will offer intensive Spanish language courses as part of their curriculum, giving you the tools you need to navigate the city and, if you are advanced enough, take courses at a local university. In addition to Spanish, other popular subject areas which international students tend to explore while they study abroad in Seville include European studies, sociology, history, business and the liberal arts.
Seville is a popular destination for international students from around the world, and so study abroad programs are widely available there at all times of year. Take your time to research the particulars of many different summer, semester, and full year study abroad programs in Seville to get a grasp on all the options that are available!
Student Life
With over 1.5 million people living in the metropolitan area, Seville is Spain’s fourth largest city, as well as the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia. At the height of the Spanish empire, Seville was a powerful economic command center that benefitted from tremendous wealth and prestige in the Mediterranean region. With that golden age behind it, today Seville is more widely renowned for its cultural integrity and historical charm; there are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the Old Town alone.
Seville is small enough where you can explore the city on foot, yet large enough where you will never feel overwhelmed as a traveller. Students who study abroad in Seville will come to fall in love with the city’s laid-back outlook on life, and can take advantage of the city’s many outlets for fun and entertainment; the food is to die for, the beach is close by, and the nightlife is out of this world!
It is natural to feel an element of culture shock while you adjust to your new life studying abroad in Seville. Some elements of the Spanish way of life will undeniably take some getting used to, especially if you are not accustomed to eating dinner after 10 pm, for example. Just be patient and always willing to learn, and you’ll be in the swing of things in no time while you study abroad in Seville!
Scholarships & Costs
Seville is quite an affordable place to live by European standards, and tuition fees are very reasonable in this sense as well. With most general costs significantly lower than across Western Europe, you will be able to save more money while you study abroad in Seville than if you were to live even another major Spanish city such as Madrid, Barcelona, or Valencia. What’s more, there are a large number of available scholarships out there which can help further ease the financial burden.
Accommodations & Visas
Homestays are often the most popular form of accommodation for international students who study abroad in Seville, giving you the exclusive opportunity to live with a local Spanish host family and enjoy frequent home-cooked meals no less. Student dormitories and off-campus apartments are also made available by many study abroad programs in Seville, so take the time to weigh all your options before making a decision!
Students who plan to stay for longer than 90 days and are travelling from outside of the European Union will generally have to apply for a visa in order to study abroad in Seville, with the endorsement of either their host university of study abroad program. For more information about Spain’s specific visa policy toward your home nation, be sure to check out our Embassy Directory.
Benefits & Challenges
Mediterranean Life. Ever dream of leaving home to live in a rustic Mediterranean city, where the weather is warm, life is laid-back, and you are surrounded by like-minded individuals? Stop dreaming, and study abroad in Seville.
Language Immersion. On a slightly more practical note, Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and enrolling in a study abroad program in Seville is the perfect opportunity to bring your fluency to the next level. Make the effort to speak the local language as much as possible, and you will be well on your way to bilingual.
Travel Opportunity. With its pristine location near Spain’s southern coastline, Seville is a great home base from where to travel to other nearby destinations, such as Granada and Morocco. Whenever you get tired of the city, why not take a weekend trip with friends to somewhere new and exciting?
There are too many reasons to list why studying abroad in Seville will be the best decision you make during your education. Put lightly: the opportunity to travel the world, immerse yourself within an entirely new culture, and experience freedom in this Mediterranean city will form one of the most memorable and impactful experiences of your lifetime!

Lifechanging experience!
July 31, 2026by: Sakinah Ahmed - United StatesBefore embarking on my trip, I was super nervous because it was my first time traveling outside the country on my own. As soon as I landed, I immediately felt at home and ready to explore Seville. I was amazed at how beautiful the plaza de España was and overjoyed that it was a part of my daily commute. From the moment I met all my peers, I knew we would become great friends! I also had an amazing time getting to know the Seville staff as they welcomed us all. The excursions were perfectly planned, but they gave us time to explore cities on our own. I also felt that the academics were easy to manage, but challenging nonetheless. Overall, I was so sad to leave the city behind and the beautiful architecture. I enjoyed sketching the beautiful sights in my free time and trying new cafes!

She came back with more confidence.
July 28, 2026by: Kristen Amante - United StatesI wanted my daughter to have lots of support when she studied abroad for high school. Seville Abroad didn’t disappoint. She had a wonderful host family. The center was a great respite from the intense immersion school provided. They had Spanish classes three times a week to pull together the language she learned at school. They did several day trips/trips and outings which helped facilitate and deepen friendships with other Seville Abroad students. She came back with so much confidence and love for Spain.

July 24, 2026by: Michael Shehan - United StatesYou know honestly I had a good time. It was a great time. I feel like SSA did a good job with my internship. I had fun and all of the excursions that I went on were a good time. I don’t really know what to say, but I would say overall I had a great time on this trip.

I had a time of my life!
July 24, 2026by: Sophia Mitchell - United StatesI had a great time in Seville. I loved my class and loved learning about the history in Seville and Andalusia. I also enjoyed all my excursions, both in with the center and with the friends I made there.
It was good
July 24, 2026by: Sid Srihari - United StatesI stayed in Sevilla for three weeks as part of the summer high school program, taking an art history class in the center. The class was great, although kind of long it was very interesting and the classes were run very well, with field trips every week to things that we were learning about in class. The environment in the center was also very nice, with everyone wanting to help and all the counselors and professors were great. Activities with the intercambios were also great, the activities every week were cool and fun and well organized like kayaking, mini golf, and amusement park. Only thing that wasn't te best was that there were only two other students in my program and was a little hard to meet friends, but it did happen eventually.
I was so much fun!
July 24, 2026by: Anneliese Mariscal - United StatesI had a really great time being in Sevilla. I was able to meet a lot of great people and make a bunch of new memories. I loved going on the different excursions and beings able to practice my Spanish in and out of the classroom.

Super Immersive Experience
July 13, 2026by: Kausar Hassen - United StatesProgram: SIT Study Abroad Spain: Urban Development & Social Justice
Studying with SIT in Sevilla this summer has been a great experience, and I feel like that was thanks to the structure of the program. Most days, we had one lesson in a traditional classroom plus an additional lesson, activity, or tour out in the city later. Some focused on Sevilla’s history and culture, others gave us the opportunity to learn about social movements and meet with actual community organizers/leaders, while others focused on sustainability in the city.
Great staff and learning opportunity
July 13, 2026by: Alex Panton - United StatesProgram: SIT Study Abroad Spain: Urban Development & Social Justice
SIT provides incredibly helpful and insightful staff who are there to help you through the journey. The excursions on this program and made to be fun and interesting while showing all sides of the city of Seville. The residence hall is top notch and allows for social opportunities to meet other students. Over all, Seville is beautiful and the program is a great international experience that gives you opportunities to grow socially and academically.

I had a great time with MundoLengua! Everyone was really nice and adjusting to Spain went well. My Spanish definitely improved because we used it every day, and the classes were actually interesting most of the time. Staying with a host family was one of the best parts because I got to experience what life in Spain is really like. The activities were fun and you don’t spend much time here bored. I would 100% recommend MundoLengua to anyone thinking about studying abroad. It was an experience I’ll never forget!

July 07, 2026by: Jean Coulter - United StatesThe Seville Abroad team provided the most amazing foundation for our son as a spent his sophmore year living abroad. They were all absolutely wonderful - they are excellent communicators, made our son feel so welcome and supported, and the program showcased Spain's rich history, diversity, and culture. If you are interested in living abroad as a high schooler, we can't recommend this program enough.
A Once-in-a -Lifetime Opportunity I Never Through I'd Have
June 15, 2026by: Christina GallagherProgram: CIEE Semester in Seville
Studying abroad in Seville, Spain, was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. As a low-income college student, I never thought studying abroad would be possible for me, even though spending a semester in Spain had been a dream of mine since the beginning my freshman year of high school. Before coming to college, opportunities like this felt completely out of reach. Thanks to scholarships, financial aid, and support from my university and CIEE, I was able to turn that dream into reality. Living in a homestay was one of the highlights of my experience. It gave me the opportunity to experience Spanish culture firsthand, improve my Spanish skills, and learn what daily life in Spain is really like. The academics were engaging, and the support provided by CIEE was excellent from the application through the end of the program. One challenge I faced was healthcare, since I receive a monthly medication. It was little difficult to make sure I had enough before leaving, and I ended up needing to get a dose while abroad and had to pay for it out of pocket. This created some additional stress, but the staff were supportive whenever I needed help navigating challenges like this. I also found making friends difficult at times, but this is something I have always struggled with. Even so, I was able to form a meaningful friendship during my semester abroad. Overall, studying in Seville helped me grow academically, personally, and culturally. One finally piece of advice: If you are currently an undergraduate student who thinks studying abroad is financially our of reach., don't count yourself out. I once felt the same way and I encourage you to explore your opinions. I never thought I would have the chance to do something like this, and it ended up being one of the best experiences of my life.
Best thing to happen to my Spanish!
May 11, 2026by: Tulip Bitange - KenyaBeing a premed student I was at first quite hesitant about applying for a study abroad since I was not very sure how it would work with my science classes. That was until I came across Spanish Study Abroad's page and saw that they offered a wide range of classes and programs that could too work for science majors! My first time applying was for the Spring of 2025 for which I was able to take both Spanish classes and do an internship organized by the Spanish Study Abroad branch in Seville at IENSA (a neurosurgery and neurology center in Seville). My second time, was the Spring of 2026 and with how well the program is organized, I was able to do my last Biochemistry class at University Pablo de Olavide. Long story short, the first semester abroad was honestly one of the best decisions of my life and definitely the best decision for my Spanish since between learning in the program and engaging with the very friendly Andalucian people, I successfully moved a whole level up in my Spanish in just a couple months. Additionally, Seville is culturally rich and I love that the program makes it a point to explain and share the wonderful culture and cusine with us! From this experience, I built my confidence and knowledge in Spanish and made very important connections with both locals and in the Spanish healthcare system. I loved it so much, I did the study abroad TWICE and I can confidently say it was 100% worth it!!!
Cultural Immersion in Sevilla
May 08, 2026by: Ted Fehringer - United StatesIt was a pleasure and privilege studying abroad in Sevilla. Unlike other programs, Spanish Study Abroad allowed me to be fully immersed in the culture, living with a host mother in a local part of the city, improving my Spanish, and having a myriad of opportunities to integrate myself into the culture.
Semester in Sevilla!
May 08, 2026by: Nolan Peterson - United StatesSevilla was the perfect place to study abroad! I was able to build my Spanish skills and immerse myself in the beautiful culture Sevilla has to offer. I loved my professors and host family. I felt I was able to truly experience life as a Sevillan and will be forever grateful for this opportunity!
Great Professors and Sevilla Activities
April 29, 2026by: Jose C.The professors are really good to teach the classes and as persons, Sevilla is a beautiful place, all the activities CIEE has as trips, sports, and learning more about the community and culture of Sevilla. That is why I would recommend CIEE.
Balanced Academics and Exploration
April 20, 2026by: Christina G.Program: CIEE Semester in Seville
I would highly recommend CIEE Study Abroad to a friend or a peer because it has been an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience for me. The program provided a great balance between academics and cultural immersion, allowing me to grow both personally and academically. Living with a host family has allowed me to practice my Spanish daily and experience the culture in a more authentic and personal way. I also really appreciate how supportive and available the CIEE staff are. Overall, this experience has helped me become more independent, confident, and open-minded.
Loin de toi, près de moi
April 09, 2026by: Éléna Labonté - CanadaProgram: Semester Abroad in Spain (official university credits)
