Marine Science Internships in Phuket

Be part of a unique team that takes a holistic approach to marine conservation. It works on protecting the coastal and marine ecosystems that are suffering from human and natural destruction. The project also educates the local villagers, hotel workers, and dive shop owners on the important environmental issues and how to prevent further damage to the reefs. Depending on the time of year there will be different projects for volunteers to help. From November to April, the main tasks will be sea turtle conservation and beach cleanup. While May to October, which is the rainy season, the projects will be geared towards terrestrial conservation, surveying, and planting mangroves. No matter the time of year, all volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in community work, teaching English to school children, and environmental education.

In today's world, aquaculture has taken on new importance as the world's fish stocks are devastated by industrial fishing practices. This means that farmed fish species are increasing to meet demands. Interns participate in all aspects of prawn farming with an established business. They discover how fishermen-turned-farmers nurture their crops to maturity. They also work with local aquarium scientists, discovering how these ventures relieve the pressure on the local marine environment, and help to conserve marine life and coastlines with correct management techniques.
