Forest Conservation & Community Resilience

This exciting program is located in Malinalco, located only 50 km southwest of Mexico City, the capital. Because of its colonial character, it is one of the Pueblos Mágicos (Magic towns). Aldeas de Paz has established a collaboration with a grassroots NGO, one of the most prestigious civil society organizations in the municipality of Malinalco, in central Mexico. This extraordinary and successful NGO was created in 2007 with the aim of promoting community participation to preserve and protect the town's natural, social, historical, and spiritual heritage. Through its programs, FCM activates, builds capacities, accompanies, and finances projects to strengthen the diversity of communities living in Malinalco. The central aim of this joint volunteering program is to be able to enhance peace culture and conflict transformation processes in the forestry field, as well as to strengthen the activities and goals of the Forestry Culture Program of the FCM in the region.

One of the best things I've ever done!

November 07, 2024by: Jasmine PrestonProgram: Marine Conservation and PADI Divemaster Internship in Mexico

Joining the marine conservation internship in Mexico was one of the best things I've ever done! The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about conservation and the ocean and this really shines through everyday. The other volunteers were so amazing and I've made friends for life! It has been a very healing journey to come here and get back in touch with nature, as well as advancing my diving skills up to rescue level. Highlights have definitely been the turtle walk, cenote dive and my first ever deep dive at the wreck! I'm gutted to be leaving but so happy for the beautiful experience. One thing I will say is be prepared to live a basic lifestyle with much lower levels of luxury and hygiene standards you are used to! There will be cockroaches, cold showers and a million mosquitos! But it's all part of the story!
