Internships in Cape Coast, Ghana

Perched on the Gulf of Guinea, Cape Coast is a post-colonial former capital that, in spite of its history, maintains a laid back, welcoming vibe. Near enough to the capital of Accra as to be accessible (but not so close as to be subsumed), Cape Coast is a gateway for those in search of meaningful travel. While Ghana is arguably the most stable—economically, politically, and socially—country on the continent, opportunities to have a tangible impact as an intern in Cape Coast and its hinterlands abound.

Dentistry Internship in Ghana

RECRUITING NOW! This internship is an opportunity to gain experience within a dental department of a hospital in Cape Coast and possibly some credits to go towards your degree. Ghanaians have access to dental treatment in most major hospitals. The setup and the working conditions are very different from what you are accustomed to in your home country. The dental department deals with emergencies as well as routine dental appointments. During this internship, you will be exposed to the challenges dentists, as well as patients in need of dental care, encounter in developing countries. The lack of knowledge on preventative dental hygiene might expose you to advanced dental conditions. This is a great experience abroad to help launch your medical dental career. You must either be a professional in the field or a student currently studying related courses to be eligible for this program. If you are planning to study dentistry, you can also apply for this internship, although you must demonstrate a strong commitment to the field.

A Guide to Interning Abroad in Cape Coast

Why Intern Abroad in Cape Coast?

In most ways, Ghana is still a developing country and there are numerous opportunities for international internships in Cape Coast. There exists a notable economic and social urban-rural divide, and both in and around Cape Coast there are several key fields with significant needs. Internships in Cape Coast will most commonly focus on social needs, such as counseling, women’s studies, or healthcare fields, including medicine and dentistry. Internship placements can be either urban or rural.

Modern day Cape Coast is a passively defiant city. In opposition to its violent past, the city has shirked the chains of its colonial heritage and has transformed into a hub and cultural capital of West Africa. Compared to Accra, Cape Coast is small, accommodating, and laid back. Travelers who intern abroad in Cape Coast can find the freshest seafood they’ll ever eat or learn about the city’s past at the Cape Coast Castle.

Great experience with OGVO

September 03, 2021by: Elias Gutermann - GermanyProgram: Dentistry Internship in Ghana with OGVO

I had one of my greatest experiences regarding getting to know a new culture as well as the work environment in Ghana with OGVO. It was great to see the differences but especially the similarities in dental treatments and procedures in the office. Frank and his team are extremely welcoming, always ready to help and very professional. I would recommend OGVO to everybody who’s interested in doing an internship or any kind of voluntary work in Ghana. Especially the weekend trips were a great experience to get to know the country and the people even more. I feel I could take home so much positive vibes that it really was hard to leave Ghana after 3 weeks.
