RECRUITING NOW! Get the chance to volunteer in a laboratory in Ghana, an area that needs your support. Volunteers will be based in a hospital that provides services in general medicine: ophthalmology, ECG, venereology, dermatology, x-ray, laboratory tests, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, medicine, ultrasound, and mother and child healthcare. There is only one laboratory in the whole hospital, which focuses on blood, urine, and feces, so volunteers will never be short of work to do! This is a fantastic project for anyone with an interest in laboratory work as volunteers will gain an insight into local diseases. Volunteers are highly valued by the local staff and encourage cross-cultural awareness and the development of making global citizens. In connection to COVID-19, Ghana has put in place some precautionary measures for the locals' and visitors' safety. Volunteers need to be fully vaccinated to participate in the program. You will also be required to take a PCR test at the airport upon arrival in Ghana. You will be spending the first three nights in a hotel arranged by the ground team before joining your homestay.

Grab this opportunity to further develop your skills through the Nursing and Midwifery internships of Projects Abroad. Your placement will depend largely on your experience or amount of training. Nursing internships are available in Accra, at Danquah Circle - a large Police hospital in a local neighborhood. Midwifery internships will be at the Sakumono Community Hospital, a small local hospital specializing in surgical and maternity care. In Cape Coast, the Central Regional Hospital has positions available for nursing and midwifery interns. It is one of the most modern hospitals in Ghana with a wide range of departments and lots of new equipment. If you don’t have medical experience, you will be placed in Dodowa to ensure you receive instruction and supervision through observation. If you are a professional with considerable experience, you will be placed in Cape Coast and assist with treatments. If you don’t have full qualifications but have experience, you can work at either locations.

Immerse yourself in a beautiful Ghanaian city while learning about the countrys approach to providing healthcare services to its citizens. Program participants will gain a global perspective on the overall Ghanaian healthcare system delivery services, various socioeconomic factors, and the structural and financial healthcare challenges medical professionals deal with. They will be able to address public health topics like family planning, adoption, teen pregnancy, sex education, and endemic tropical diseases. They will gain an understanding of how some of the issues are viewed culturally in this day and age. Participants will rotate in various departments at the hospital, and will work alongside medical professionals, medical students, and specialists. They will also explore community health centers connected to the hospital.

Participate in a medical project for Pharmacy students and start building a career in this field. Plus, gain an eye-opening insight into the healthcare system of a developing country. Completing an elective program in Ghana with OGVO helps you acquire valuable practical experience through a placement within a hospital pharmacy, under the supervision of a professional pharmacy manager. At the same time, share your skills and knowledge in communities that are largely underdeveloped and low on resources through contribution to an outreach program. In Ghana, health care is often limited by lack of funding, outdated facilities, and shortage of staff. Contribute directly to the improvement of community health care (where you are placed) and to a healthier life in general. During your placement, a qualified supervisor will help you become accustomed to your specific pharmaceutical practice. You will observe daily pharmaceutical care services provided by local medical staff, and assist where required. You will also go on outreach projects into outlying communities to provide basic medical services to small villages often without health care assistance.
