<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>

<p>I’ve always been motivated by personal growth, and going abroad felt like the perfect opportunity to challenge myself. I wanted to build independence, adapt to new situations, and expand my perspective while experiencing a different culture firsthand.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was especially drawn to the idea of immersing myself in a different culture, not just as a visitor but as someone actively participating in it. I wanted to learn from the people around me, understand different customs and traditions, and see how others approach life, work, and relationships. I believe those kinds of experiences help build empathy and a deeper understanding of the world.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/the-intern-group rel="" target="_self" class="link">The Intern Group</a>?</h3>

I was particularly drawn to how the program places interns in roles that align with their career interests, allowing me to gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting rather than just observing.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>London is truly a global city, and that’s reflected in its food, languages, and communities. I had the chance to try a wide variety of cuisines and interact with people from many different backgrounds, which made the experience even more meaningful and eye-opening.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Overall, what stood out most was how London combines history, culture, and opportunity in one place. It challenged me to step outside my routine, try new things, and fully immerse myself in a new environment, which made it an unforgettable experience.</p>

<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>What made my experience abroad truly extraordinary was the combination of personal growth, cultural immersion, and professional development all happening at once.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It wasn’t just about being in a new place, but about how that environment continuously pushed me to adapt, learn, and grow in ways I hadn’t experienced before.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>One of the most valuable aspects of their support was their accessibility and responsiveness. Whether I had questions about my internship, housing, or simply navigating the city, they were always approachable and willing to help.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Knowing that I had a reliable support system in place made it much easier to adjust to a new environment and focus on both my professional and personal growth. (Shoutout Peach and Autumn - our mom and dad home away from home!)!</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>Looking back, I would have liked to travel more frequently and explore areas beyond the main parts of the city. There were so many nearby destinations and hidden gems that I didn’t get the chance to see, and I realize now how valuable those experiences would have been in broadening my perspective even further.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>

<p>Evenings often involved meeting up with other interns or friends, whether it was for dinner, events, or just spending time together. These moments were some of the most memorable because they allowed me to build connections with people from diverse backgrounds while sharing new experiences.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Weekends were typically reserved for bigger plans, such as traveling to nearby cities, visiting attractions, or participating in organized activities. This gave me the chance to see more of the country and make the most of my time abroad.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>I loved visiting museums and cultural sites. London has so many world-class museums, and having the opportunity to experience them in person was something I really appreciated. It was a great way to learn more about history, art, and culture while making the most of my time there.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Trying new food was another highlight. I made an effort to explore different cuisines and restaurants, which reflected the city’s diversity. It was exciting to step outside of my usual preferences and experience new flavors and dishes.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>During my time abroad, I stayed in shared accommodation arranged through the program, which I found to be both comfortable and convenient. Living with other interns created a built-in sense of community and made the transition to a new city much easier. It was reassuring to be surrounded by people who were going through a similar experience, and it helped me quickly form connections and friendships.</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>One thing every future participant should know before beginning the program is how important it is to be proactive and make the most of every opportunity. While the program provides a strong structure and support system, the overall experience is really what you choose to make of it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Taking initiative, both in your internship and in your personal time, can greatly enhance what you gain from the experience.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend Internships &amp; Volunteer Programs in London to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Yes, I would absolutely recommend this program to others because it offers a well-rounded and rewarding experience both professionally and personally. The combination of a structured internship, cultural immersion, and ongoing support makes it a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain real-world experience while living abroad.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>I feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is the personal growth that comes from experiencing life outside of your comfort zone. Being in a completely new environment challenges you to adapt, problem-solve, and become more independent in ways that everyday routines at home often don’t require.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Overall, the biggest benefit is the combination of growth, perspective, and confidence that stays with you long after the trip ends. It’s an experience that not only helps you learn about the world but also teaches you a great deal about yourself.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Now that I’m home, I can clearly see how much my time abroad has impacted my life in both subtle and significant ways.</p>
<p>One of the biggest changes is my increased sense of independence and confidence. Navigating a new country, adapting to unfamiliar situations, and managing daily life on my own pushed me to become more self-reliant, and that mindset has carried over into my life back home.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel, to me, goes beyond simply visiting new places or seeing popular attractions. It’s about fully engaging with the environment, culture, and people in a way that leaves a lasting impact.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Rather than just observing, meaningful travel involves immersing yourself in the local way of life and being open to new perspectives and experiences.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>I had studied abroad in London as a sophomore in college and was absolutely dying to go back as a graduate. But the thing that made me want to do an internship post-grad was feeling like I wasn't ready to move from the classroom to the workroom quite yet.</p>
<p>I felt that I needed a new opportunity to experience life as a working adult, without committing to one specific career path yet. There was still so much that I needed to learn before signing on to a permanent job.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/learning-beyond-academy rel="" target="_self" className="link"><ins>Beyond Academy</ins></a>?</h3>
<p>I chose Beyond Academy because of three main factors: the fact that it was solely dedicated to internships, the impressive range of available countries during the pandemic, and how I could tailor the program to my individual needs.</p>
<p>Many programs I considered just had one or two of those qualities, but Beyond Academy was the only one that had all three.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>I have a deep history with London, as I've lived there for just under a year and a half in total, and have visited many times. But the thing about London that keeps me coming back, is that no matter how long you stay, it always feels fresh and new.</p>
<p>There's so much beauty in the architecture, the history, and the culture that continues to call me back again and again.</p>

<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>My experience was made extra special by the people in my program. When I first studied abroad in 2018, I was surrounded by the same American students that you could find on any college campus.</p>
<p>I was so pleasantly surprised to have Beyond Academy peers from Ireland, South Africa, India, Scotland, and more. Having our community composed of global students from all different backgrounds was incredibly cool and inspired amazing conversations throughout our time together.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>My Beyond Academy team was incredible from day one. I felt so supported by both my peers and leaders; it truly felt like a community.</p>
<p>Something that was so unbelievably touching for me actually happened before I arrived, as I had let the staff know about my recent graduation from an eating disorder outpatient program in America.</p>
<p>They immediately asked if there was anything they could do to make my time in London easier and offered to provide tools to ensure I was succeeding in my recovery. That meant everything to me.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>I can honestly say I don't have any regrets. I went to all of the community events (which were great!), I had a fantastic position at a local company, connected with my Beyond Academy peers, and tried to enjoy and soak in every moment. It was such an amazing experience that I will be sure never to forget.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>My typical day included working from 9-5, enjoying dinner with my roommate, and then going out to do something fun with my Beyond Academy friends!</p>
<p>We loved trying new things like having a picnic in Hyde Park, visiting museums, going out to clubs, enjoying local restaurants, and more. There was so much to do and see.</p>

<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>My favorite place in London has always been Trafalgar Square; I could stay in the National Gallery forever.</p>
<p>I also have always been a fan of Covent Garden, where they have the gorgeous Royal Opera House and the most adorable holiday lights. Finally, going to Shoreditch for a girls' night out never disappoints!</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I stayed in student accommodation on Oxford Street, which was an unreal spot to live in! It was crazy that I could walk out of my door and be on the liveliest and busiest street in the city.</p>
<p>Living in the heart of central London was such a cool experience that I would recommend it to anyone; there was never a dull moment.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>There are so many awesome opportunities embedded in the program. While they're optional to attend, you should definitely participate in as many as you can; they not only connect you further with your Beyond Academy community, but they also integrate you further into your host destination.</p>
<p>If there's ever a time to challenge yourself and get outside your comfort zone, studying abroad is it!</p>
<h3>Would you recommend Beyond Academy to others? Why?</h3>
<p>I would absolutely recommend Beyond Academy to others. As someone who had the opportunity to go abroad twice, I was able to go into my internship with an informed perspective on how international programs usually run.</p>
<p>What I didn't anticipate was how personalized Beyond Academy's program would be to my individual interests and needs. I got to pick the exact amount of weeks I wanted to stay, what company I wanted to work for, where I wanted to live, and how much I wanted to participate in community events.</p>
<p>It was so liberating to make those decisions for myself, rather than participating in an overly planned program where you don't have as much freedom.</p>

<h3>Did your program provide specific pre-departure Covid support? If yes, tell us what kind of support you received.</h3>
<p>My program was great at providing pre-departure Covid information such as country regulations at the time and quarantine procedures.</p>
<p>However, the way Beyond Academy impressed me most was by sending a care package to my accommodation on the first day of my mandatory quarantine with all kinds of fun activities and wellness gifts.</p>
<p>It showed how much they truly care for their program participants and that they wanted us to feel safe and taken care of from day one, even in a pandemic.</p>
<h3>How did your program help you stay (and feel) safe abroad amidst the ongoing pandemic?</h3>
<p>Beyond Academy's community leaders were so fantastic at being accessible - both in person and via phone - which made our whole program feel very secure in terms of Covid. They also carried around rapid tests in their backpacks on group outings, so if anyone was feeling ill we could use one at any time.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit to traveling abroad is easily how it matures and wisens you as a person. The kind of independence, responsibility, and widened perspective that you get from living in a new country on your own is unparalleled.</p>
<p>Experiencing new cultures and meeting people you never would have met otherwise is the most enriching experience you can possibly have.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>My time abroad absolutely changed my life for the better—both personally and professionally. Before arriving in London, I had just graduated college and was terrified of the workplace and my future career.</p>
<p>When I returned home, I felt more informed and confident than I had ever been before. Plus, I was extremely lucky to be leaving with a new job that I had earned from my time as an intern in the program.</p>
<p>On top of all that, there was a level of pure happiness that being abroad had given me, one that comes solely from having an incredible, life-changing experience.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>My definition of meaningful travel is when you experience something new and it changes you for the better. I feel Beyond Academy did an incredible job of encouraging us to create meaningful travel experiences within our program by connecting us with all kinds of different activities and events.</p>
<p>Between seeing musicals, participating in leadership seminars, traveling to new cities, and having dinner with our community, we always had ample opportunity to meet new people and try new things.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>I was originally supposed to study abroad in college, but sadly that was canceled due to the pandemic. After graduating, I knew I still wanted to experience living and working abroad, which is how I discovered Beyond Academy.</p>
<p>As someone who received a degree in the arts, I knew I wanted to go somewhere that would benefit my career and continue to inspire me. I was already supposed to study in the UK, so deciding to go to London was an obvious choice for me.</p>
<p>London is filled with opportunities for my career choice, so I was able to learn and advance my career in a place where lots of others around me shared similar passions.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/learning-beyond-academy rel="" target="_self" className="link"><ins>Beyond Academy</ins></a>?</h3>
<p>I chose Beyond because they had a lot of options and flexibility in their program. I could tailor the experience to my needs and wants, choosing exactly what I wanted to get out of the internship.</p>
<p>I got to choose the length of my program, what industry and city I wanted to work in, and even had a say about who I would be interning with which was a big plus for me.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>I loved the diversity of London! There was so much to do and see. There were so many options that each day you could discover something new.</p>
<p>I think my favorite part was exploring everything the city had to offer. For example, you could be at a park seeing the skyline views of London and enjoying a picnic, and on the same day visit one of London's amazing historical landmarks.</p>

<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>The other interns! I felt like I already had a group of friends the second I arrived which made it a lot easier to settle in. Beyond is really good about having events during your time in your chosen city, so I loved having a little community that supported me whilst I was abroad.</p>
<p>Some of the events included a night at the theater, a trip to Cambridge, and some visits to pubs. It was a nice variety that included something for everyone's interests. Besides the planned events, a lot of the interns met up on our own and went out exploring together.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The Beyond Academy Community Team was very supportive throughout my program. They were always available to message whenever I had a question about anything in the city or about my internship.</p>
<p>They were also very helpful when I had an issue with my room and housing situation. They checked in and ensured that everything worked out well and that I was comfortable and happy. The events they set up each month were also great, not only to spend time with other interns and experience something new, but also as check-ins.</p>
<p>From the moment you apply until your last day, the Beyond Academy team is with you every step of the way. It is really reassuring and makes the program stand out from other programs going abroad.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>Honestly, I wouldn't have done anything differently. I got so much out of my experience and had so much fun doing so. I think Beyond Academy ensures that you get a lot out of your experience—which is why the price is so worth it!</p>
<p>If anything, I needed more time because there was so much to do and see. Even locals I talked to hadn't done some of the things I had the opportunity to do. Outside of my internship and the Beyond events, I had time by myself to go out and do whatever I wanted to do, which gave me the freedom to choose and plan my experience.</p>
<p>In a program like this, you have the power to choose what to get out of it. In my case, I got everything I wanted and more because of how I decided to spend my time.</p>

<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>I worked 9-5 at my internship, so I'd get ready for work in the morning and then catch the bus to my company's venue, as that was the easiest commute for me.</p>
<p>After work, I'd either head off to a Beyond Academy event and meet up with the other interns, or go catch a West End show, and maybe grab a drink at a pub. There was never a dull moment, and if I ever wanted a quiet night in, there was a chance to do this at the housing provided.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>I loved going out on my own and exploring. I really enjoyed spending time at the parks, usually stopping along the way to try out a new restaurant or coffee shop that would pique my interest.</p>
<p>There were also lots of things to do if you were on a budget. For example, all of London's big museums are free! This made for a great way to spend time on the weekend without breaking the bank.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I lived in student housing which included my own studio with a private bathroom and kitchen. It was comfortable for the length of my stay.</p>
<p>The people at the front desk were super friendly with any questions I had, and it was a good place to meet up with other interns, or even meet other people from different programs.</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Everyone should know that you'll have a great community and support from Beyond during your entire program! You can be as independent as you want as the events are all optional, but if you're worried you might feel lonely, the events give you the perfect opportunity to make some friends whilst you're in London.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend Beyond Academy to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Absolutely! I'd recommend Beyond to anyone looking to get experience working abroad whilst also experiencing a different culture. The program allows you to have the time to both explore the place you're staying in and be social, but also get work experience that is super helpful for your career goals.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>Meeting new people is the biggest benefit of traveling abroad. You get to meet people from so many different places. I got to meet people from Denmark, the Philippines, and Spain through the Beyond program! Through these friendships, you have the opportunity to make lifelong connections.</p>
<p>I also had the opportunity to do some solo traveling and met lots of friends, some from the US, and people from Australia and Austria. Now I have connections in those places, which just makes me want to travel more.</p>
<p>I've been done with my program for a few months now, but still keep in touch with some of the interns I met. We are hoping to plan a reunion in a new country sometime soon!</p>

<h3>Did your program provide specific pre-departure Covid support? If yes, tell us what kind of support you received.</h3>
<p>Thankfully my pre-departure was during a time of low Covid cases, so I did not need much support. I arrived in April 2022 and the UK had dropped most (if not all) of its Covid restrictions in February of that year. If there were any Covid protocols we needed to follow for the events, Beyond was great with working with changes to plans. This also extended to any other issues that arose!</p>
<h3>How did your program help you stay (and feel) safe abroad amidst the ongoing pandemic?</h3>
<p>Luckily, I felt incredibly safe during my time abroad. Beyond Academy makes sure you have resources available in case anything happens, small or big, during your stay in the city you're interning in. If anyone got Covid whilst on the program, they made sure to check in and see if anyone needed medicine or just general support.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Well, in my case, my time abroad has impacted my life in a huge way as I am going to return to London and work full-time for the company I interned with whilst I was on the Beyond Program.</p>
<p>My time with Beyond gave me the confidence to accept the job offer since I felt like I knew the city well enough from my internship and Beyond's community events that I would know what to expect from living in London by myself this time.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>To me, meaningful travel means that when you're traveling you are gaining something within yourself. Unlike a vacation where you may travel to relax, meaningful travel means you get to experience a new place and take in what it offers you. You allow yourself to experience the culture, and let the location teach and change you for the better.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3><p>I have always wanted to study abroad, especially after my older sister studied and interned abroad in Brussels, Belgium. I am also a German major in addition to my journalism major, so I wanted to be in Europe to get a sense of what it would be like to live there. I loved every minute of it and could see myself living there for many years in the future. I also wanted to get the experience of interning abroad, because I think it gives you a much different experience than simply studying somewhere.</p><figure class="awesome-image right-aligned" style="width: 50%;"><img style="" src="http://www5.goabroad.com/images/interviews/2-1600865243.jpg" alt="London Bridge, UK"><figcaption class="caption"><p>Meredith at the London Bridge</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>Why did you choose CAPA&rsquo;s program in London?</h3><p>I knew I wanted to go to London because I have always loved English culture. I also thought the journalism media landscape would be better than others, because a lot of the reporting there is really amazing. They also had a company there that I wanted to work for, and I ended up getting my internship there. It truly was the best company to work for. Also, CAPA has been partnered with my home college for a long time, so I knew a lot of people had done the internship program there before. I also heard a lot of them really enjoyed it so it was good to have positive feedback.</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3><p>London is absolutely STUNNING. I am obsessed with it. Every area is so different and exciting, and you truly never run out of things to do while you are there. I loved all of the restaurants, nightclubs, museums, shops, and all of the things that make London so unique. I also felt like every day was filled to the brim with new things to do. Also, the public transportation is amazing there, although expensive, so it is so easy to see a lot of the city. I enjoyed riding on the Tube every day and truly had very few issues with it.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3><p>My experience abroad was amazing because my internship placement was everything I wanted it to be. The people at CAPA were so helpful and listened to where I wanted to be. I wrote for a music magazine while I was there and got to attend free concerts and meet some really incredible artists who I knew from America. I felt like I automatically fit in with the company, and all of the people there were so cool and exciting to be around. Their creative energy made my day-to-day work life so enjoyable. I also loved living in Camden. It was so young and energetic, and we always felt like we had new things to explore there.</p><h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3><p>Local staff was amazing in London. When we got to our apartment, staff met us there and helped us settle in with welcome packets and other information about Camden where we lived. Also, having a place to go to in Kensington where we took some classes was really nice because it was always there if we needed it. The location of their office is also in a very beautiful and centrally located place in London, so that made travel there much more enjoyable.</p><p>I also got sick with food poisoning while I was there, and the staff helped me find a doctor who was able to prescribe me antibiotics. I think it would have been much more difficult to find a doctor if I didn't have the CAPA staff there to assist me.</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3><p>I probably would have explored EVEN MORE than I did. I was always out and about, but I think I would have made absolutely every day count just a little bit more. Now with the global pandemic, all I want to do is travel, so I have a lot of time to think about all of the things that I did while I was abroad. I wish I had gone to a few more museums, but every day felt so packed that it was sometimes tiring planning more things to do! I also wish I had just walked around Camden a little bit more because it was such a fun and interesting place to live. There were so many bars and restaurants that I never got to visit, but you just don't have time to do absolutely everything.</p><h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3><p>Three days a week I went to work in Shepherd's Bush, which was about an hour commute on the Tube. While that was a long time to travel to work, I actually really enjoyed my time on the train. Once I got to work, I would check in with my boss and learn of the things I needed to write that day. I also had to check in with a few agents for musicians to get back to me about artwork and responses to my questions. We all got lunch together at the local shop and then we would leave around 5:00 pm(ish).</p><p>Then I would get dinner on my way home on the Tube or make it at my apartment in Camden. We would sometimes go to the local pub after work, as a lot of people in England typically do that with coworkers or friends.</p><p>On the days I wasn't working, I had some time to sleep in a little bit and then would get ready for class. These days were pretty relaxed and it was nice having some time away from the office to explore London with friends. I would sometimes work on these days to make up time that I planned to take off if I wanted to travel on the weekends starting Friday.</p><figure class="awesome-image centered" style=""><img style="" src="http://www5.goabroad.com/images/interviews/1-1600865259.jpg" alt="Tulips"><figcaption class="caption"><p>Tulips in Amsterdam</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3><p>Europe is filled with so many beautiful places. Whenever I had free time, I frequently traveled to other countries. I went to Scotland, Ireland, France, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Germany. I also traveled to a few cities around England, including Manchester, Oxford, and Stratford-upon-Avon. I spent a lot of my free time just getting out and about in London and seeing all of the different little areas that make London so unique.</p><p>Also, the best part about London is that it is so international, so all of the food there is AMAZING. There are so many restaurants and bars and things to do at night that make each day super fun and special.</p><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>We lived in Camden, which is on the Northern line. It was definitely further away than some other areas to central London, but I wouldn't have wanted to live anywhere else. It was so fun, young, and hip. There were always interesting people around and plenty of bars and restaurants to keep us busy. Also, Camden Market is one of the coolest food markets to explore, so we loved living right near there.</p><p>We lived in an apartment building that was mostly full of students, so we got to meet a lot of other people who were on CAPA programs, which was amazing. We made a lot of friends, some of whom came to visit us at our college in America. I consider them friends for life. Our apartment was also really beautiful and we had two beds and bathrooms, so we always felt like we had plenty of space.</p><h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3><p>It is definitely important to come up with a good financial plan for how to manage costs while in London because the city is extremely expensive. I made a budget projection with my college study abroad office to make sure I could manage the cost of living there. The currency rate is what really kills you because the Pound was so much stronger than the Dollar while I was there. You automatically lose a lot of money just converting currency, but I felt like since I had a plan, I was pretty good at sticking to it. It also helps you manage unexpected costs that might come up during your stay there. Nothing ever goes as planned, but it is a good idea to plan funds as much as possible before trying to do extra travel and things like that. There are also so many free things you can do in the city that are perfect for filling weekends and days you don't work.</p><h3>Would you recommend your program to others? Why?</h3><p>Absolutely!!!! I have recommended this program to many of my younger friends because it truly was the best four months of my life. I learned so much about myself, and I became so much more independent and organized after I came home.</p><p>I think London has some really amazing companies that are so great to work for, and it is such an international city, so it is really easy to connect to other countries that you might want to visit in Europe. London really is amazing, and I would recommend for so many people to study there and intern there. I had a few friends come visit me and one in particular wished she had studied in London instead of Rome.</p><h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3><p>I think the biggest benefit is that you learn to work in a different environment, and it prepares you for entering the career world. I feel much more able to deal with unexpected issues or working for a busy company because I feel like my time in London prepared me for so many things. It also greatly helped my confidence because if I was able to work abroad, I know that I can work in America.</p><p>I have an internship this summer that is for a company like the one I worked for in London, and I know working in London has prepared me for the same work atmosphere. It also helped me decide what kind of work atmosphere I wanted. Since I had such a good experience in London, I knew I wanted to work for a similar company in America. The company I have an internship with also has an office in London that I visited, so that is also a really exciting element of working abroad. The connections you make are priceless.<br></p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3><p>Now that I am home, all I do is think about the time I was abroad. I truly miss it every day. I am trying to figure out ways to get back to Europe and work there because I loved calling it home. I am so lucky to have spent time abroad, and I got to do some really amazing things. I feel like I really took advantage of all that London has to offer, but I still would love to live there again at some point to experience it all again.</p><p>It also made me more comfortable for a future life in NYC, where I hope to live as well. Since I love big, bustling cities, I look forward to living a life like the one I lived in London!</p><h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3><p>Meaningful travel to me is when you go somewhere and experience different elements of what the culture has to offer. I especially love going to local restaurants because I feel like you get a better sense of the area if you eat like a local. I also just love food, so that is always one of my favorite parts of exploring new places.</p><p>I also think it is important to visit local museums because often they show artifacts that are really important to the locals. They also tell such a great history of the local area, so I try and see museums in every city that I visit.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3><p>I was inspired to go abroad by my mother. I had always known I wanted to study abroad, but I didn't think it was financially feasible. I have always been in love with London and all things British since I was a child, but I didn't think I'd actually be able to study and work there. It wasn't until before my junior year that my mom and I finally sat down to talk things over regarding going abroad. She realized how great of an experience it would be for me, so she actually printed out my application and told me I was going. I love traveling and exploring, so I knew that going abroad would be such a great experience. I decided to look into programs in my sophomore year and I specifically wanted to be based in a European city so I could easily travel around. My mom was also one of my biggest drivers in going abroad because she knew how great it would be for me. I chose to study with CAPA because their study and intern abroad program checked all of my boxes!</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London, England?</h3><p>My favorite part about my host city was how big it was, so something was always happening in some part of the city. I could go to an art gallery during the day in Kensington, then I could take the tube to a concert in Shepherd's Bush at night. I was never bored of exploring and I loved how that exploration didn't stop during classes. We were able to go on field trips to significant cultural or historical locations throughout England instead of having lectures some days. It was great to be able to learn about something and then actually go see and experience it.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3><p>My trip abroad was extraordinary because of my internship experience. If I didn't choose CAPA, I wouldn't have had such an amazing placement. I'm very interested in film and marketing, so CAPA was able to bridge the gap and place me at the UK's largest independent film festival where I worked alongside the marketing team. I was able to do so much at my placement, such as taking over their social accounts and writing several blogs, which enabled me to sharpen my skills. I was even able to take film courses taught by experienced filmmakers who worked at the BBC or produced award-winning films.</p><h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3><p>The staff at CAPA were so amazing. They knew how to help us with any questions or concerns we had. They had a great orientation day for us in which they explained how the internships may differ from those in the US and how to get in touch if there was ever an issue. They really cared about how we were feeling and what we were gaining from the whole experience. I can't imagine going abroad and not having the support of such an amazing team of people. I was able to travel a lot on my own, yes, but I missed out on the opportunity to go to Paris with the rest of my classmates because I didn't want to spend the money. Eventually, I ended up spending the same amount to go anyway, so I wish I would have taken advantage of the trip they had planned out for us. It would've been another bonding experience that I could've had.</p><h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3><p>A typical day abroad for me included walking to the tube station. Whether I was going to my internship or class, I always took the tube as it was the most convenient way to get around the city. For my internship days, I'd work from 10am to 6pm with an hour break for lunch around 1pm. Because I worked off of The Strand and was so close to the West End, I would often go to the discount ticket stand after work to see if I could get cheap tickets to a show. I could usually get a decent seat to a show that night for less than $50. If I didn't see a show, I'd go home and cook dinner before going up to my friend's apartment to hang out!</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3><p>During my free time, I loved to visit museums and see plays or musicals. I just wanted to take in as much of the culture, music, and art as I could while I was there. Since London is such a big and diverse city that is rich in entertainment options, I felt completely at home. On nice days, my friends and I would look at a map of the city and pick a random borough to walk around and explore. We just wanted to see as much as we could during our time there, so it was a goal of ours to not repeat places unless we absolutely loved them.</p><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>During my time in London, I shared a flat or apartment with two other girls. We shared a bedroom and bathroom, but there was also a decent-sized living area with a balcony and a full kitchen. While the apartment itself was nothing super fancy, the location couldn't be topped. We lived right in the heart of Camden Town, a northern borough known for its nightlife and edginess. It was a super young area with so much to do and see. We live right across from a Sainsbury market so we didn't have to go far for groceries. We also lived less than a three-minute walk away from the nearest tube station, so it was always easy to get around.</p><h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3><p>One thing every future participant should know before the program begins is that it is going to be the best fiveish months of their lives! If you go into it with a positive attitude, then your experience will reflect that. It can be challenging to get acclimated and you may feel a bit homesick at first, but the friends you meet abroad quickly become your family. You guys will become so close and they will be some of the best friends you make in life. Before the program is even over, you'll be planning when to visit them or when to have a reunion in your host city!</p><h3>Would you recommend your program/provider to others? Why?</h3><p>I would 100 percent recommend this program to others because it is such a rewarding experience. From the amazing internship opportunities to the teaching staff, CAPA really covers everything. They help if there are any issues, provide great recommendations for what to do/see, and so much more. This program really gives you everything you could ask for because you gain professional, educational, and cultural experience. I was able to see and do so much during my time abroad that I couldn't see or do back in the US. From meeting one of the most famous street artists in London to interviewing an Oscar-winning screenwriter, studying in London allowed me to do things I never thought I could or would. Just being in such a global city and being able to surround myself with so many different people was amazing and made me realize that I want to keep seeing the world.</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3><p>Now that I'm home, being abroad made me realize that I want to travel more. Because I'm about to graduate, I wanted to see if there was a way for me to continue to explore the world. In making it a priority, I actually found a job that allows me to be a PR and Marketing firm on wheels, so I'll be traveling the US for a year. Being abroad showed me that I value knowledge and learning more about the world through experience. I know that my time abroad will impact me and my decisions for the rest of my life.</p><h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3><p>Meaningful travel to me is not just seeing, it's about doing. I want to learn more about places by experiencing them. I feel as though I thrive when I'm able to spend a good amount of time in a city or country. I like to immerse myself in a new way of life rather than just seeing it for a day or two and then leaving. Meaningful travel is being able to really understand what your impact is as well. It's important to show appreciation and a willingness to learn about cultures and history in order to benefit from any travel.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3><p>What inspired me to go abroad was my desire for adventure and to see different cultures. Another student at the PittBusiness Career Fair told me that doing an internship abroad would be a life-changing experience and she was right.</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3><p>My favorite part about London is that there's something new to see and do everyday. With all of the diverse boroughs and neighborhoods there is something different and new everyday. I was able to see where different immigrants went and their different cultures within London which was also a really amazing perk to the incredible city.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3><p>What made my experience abroad extraordinary was being able to see so many different cultures and environments around me. Not only in London, but I was also fortunate enough to be able to travel to a good amount of different countries within Europe and I was able to see their different cultures and the beautiful views that took my breath away.</p><h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3><p>Local staff was extremely helpful with anything I needed. They helped me with any questions I had regarding the area, traveling, medical, academics and my internship. On weekends is when I primarily did my traveling and excursions because it was often already dark when I got home during the week.</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3><p>During my free time I really enjoyed just walking around different areas and exploring. It was fun to try food and experiences that I couldn't get back in the States.</p><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>I lived in a Studio Apartment in West Kensington. My favorite part about it is that it was only a 20-minute walk from CAPA and the route was very scenic.</p><h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3><p>Make sure that if you're doing the internship to be very descriptive on what you want so you can get the best fit for you. If you're vague there's a possibility that you won't be placed where you're truly interested.</p><h3>Would you recommend CAPA The Global Education Network to others? Why?</h3><p>I would definitely recommend GBI London with CAPA to others because it was an amazing experience. The CAPA program gives you lots of opportunities to see the city and go around England. It has also inspired me to make a bucket list to visit every continent at least once in my lifetime.</p><h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3><p>Meaningful travel means to me that you get something out of traveling that was able to touch you or touch other people. The travel has made a difference that you will be able to reflect on throughout your life.</p>

<p>I had never really been away from Toronto ever since I was a kid, so I really wanted to live somewhere different, far from home and experience a different culture.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>Just meeting people from all walks of life who also ended up in London. There are those who are born and raised in London, and those from other countries who also chose to work, live, study here. It's really funny to experience the differences in English even though we all understand each other for the most part, just certain words or phrases are different. Those nuances are quite interesting and insightful for me to take back to Canada.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>Working for ChargedUp. I've volunteered in student-run programs and worked briefly with a small team of freelancers who made their own little design company, but working at a startup has just been phenomenal. This is my first 'real' job (I've done many years as a retail worker), so it's a lot of fun to have flexibility and to feel like your voice can make a difference for the company. Everyone is incredibly friendly and easygoing, with beer on tap in the office and after-work socials where everyone in the office comes out to drink and have fun is amazing.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>My boss, Forrest, understood that this was my first job out of uni so he was very accommodating with helping me learn the ropes but also being there for me as just a friend, who is open to listen to any struggles I'm facing having moved to London for the first time.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>I wish I had picked a better place to live for six months. Using Spot a Home, I booked the flat solely trusting the photos online and signed a six-month contract on the day I landed in London. In hindsight, I would've booked a hostel for the first week and went in person to view places before I signed such a long contract. The place I'm staying at isn't terrible, but I do wish I had a bit more space and perhaps have picked a better area to live in.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>I live thankfully only two stops away on the Overground from my flat to the office, so I can wake up a bit later than most my coworkers. I pick up a free banana outside the Amazon HQ (which is only a minute away from the ChargedUp office!) and make myself a cup of coffee in the shared kitchen (it's like a WeWork-style office space). I start working on a fun marketing project and around 11am I ask my coworkers what they ordered off MealPal (a meal subscription service). We all head out to lunch together, grab our food and head up to the roof at the top of the office to eat and chat. After lunch, we grab snacks and crack on with our work. Around 6pm, people start heading home and I, myself, go to the grocery store after work to make dinner at home (gotta save money in a city as expensive as London). I'll finish eating, look up some cool places to check out for the weekend and go to sleep.</p>

<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>On Friday nights, my friends and I would head to a bar or club and just celebrate the start of the weekend! Since this is my first job, I really do want to celebrate the end of the week because it can get a bit hectic during the weekdays. The people I met in London just have such an extensive network, everyone knows everyone in some capacity, so I'm always meeting new faces and getting to know different perspectives. On Saturday and Sunday, I like to do some more tourist-y things like museums (which are free!) and visit some of the markets for some shopping. I'm also a huge foodie, so I definitely squeeze in good food in between all of that.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I lived in a four-bedroom (one-bathroom) flat in the Whitechapel area. What I liked was how friendly and helpful all my roommates are. When they're home, they take the time to talk and just chat in the kitchen. I was honestly worried since I couldn't choose my roommates, so I'm really thankful that they have been so good to me. I also live so close to work, it makes morning commutes much easier.</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Capital Placement wants to give as much of an open experience as possible. They will run you through the basics but that's it, everything else they want you to figure out. This was something I had no idea about having signed up to this program, because at times I felt a bit lost and wasn't sure if they were supposed to help me with these things. Having met with them in-person, in London, they explained that life is all about learning and taking the initiative to figure it out yourself is how you grow. Hearing that, their apprehension to give me a full out guide was understandable. Every person should be writing their own story and carving their own path, not following someone else's 10-step guide.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend Capital Placement to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Yes I would, but more so to people who are still in studying rather than graduated. It's more so because the uni I went to did not have a placement program in the curriculum, so we were left to find a job ourselves after graduation which can be a bit daunting at times. As an intern in the UK, people are often confused that I am graduated yet I am just an intern.</p>

<h3>What do you feel is the biggest benefit of traveling abroad?</h3>
<p>A fresh perspective. Growing up in Toronto my whole life put me in a comfortable, familiar bubble that I rarely stepped out of. I really wanted to push myself and go to a whole new country with a different culture. Travelling gives you insight into the way other countries and people are, and bringing back these observations and knowledge can make for a very rich experience, with many great stories to tell.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>I'm not home yet, I still have less than four months to go. I can imagine myself going back to Toronto and missing the friends I made in London. I'll be sure to visit and who knows, maybe even return for a permanent position!</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Being respectful and curious about other countries and their culture. I am a foreigner stepping foot onto the place they call home, so I need to be mindful of that. Talking to the locals and learning about their day-to-day lives, going to local bars or events, really immerses you into what it's like for someone to live here every day. Comparing and understanding the similarities and differences can give you warmth and have you fall in love with every new country you go to.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>I was born and brought up in China and the wider world has always been of interest to me. The UK, in particular, has been somewhere that has always fascinated me and somewhere I always aspired to go. Although she gave a great review about the program, I did a lot of research before choosing to apply to Capital Placement. One of the things I must emphasise is doing your research and speaking to the organisation before committing. While I was speaking to Capital Placement, they were very helpful and gave a lot of very useful advice about the different programs and which one of them could be a good fit for me. Another thing was that a lot of my friends have heard of Capital Placement and this was very reassuring as well.&nbsp;</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?&nbsp;</h3><p>Working and living in London is no doubt a great experience. London is always alive and there are so many things to do and see! One of my favourite parts was making new friends at work and in the student residence where I stayed; I am still in touch with most of them! As I was in London for 6 months, I had the opportunity to travel around the country during the weekends, which I really enjoyed as well and would recommend everyone to do.&nbsp;</p><h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?&nbsp;</h3><p>The most extraordinary part of the experience was getting a job offer to stay on in the UK to work full time!</p><h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?&nbsp;</h3><p>They provided excellent support before, during, and after my internship. Capital Placement definitely made the whole process easy for me and was always on hand to help. During the program, we regularly had social events for a catch up and the staff at CP were always available via WhatsApp. They were even happy to provide support throughout the weekends, even when the messages were not urgent.&nbsp;</p><figure class="awesome-image right-aligned" style="width: 300px;"><img style="" src="http://www5.goabroad.com/images/interviews/ubwo8wecvuo8l4nsuwbvl1sjwxyicnpfpelynrjo-1553223127.jpg" alt="Jian Sun at the beach"><figcaption class="caption"><p>Beach during summer</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>I&rsquo;m not sure what I would have done differently to be honest&mdash;everything went smoothly and better than I was expecting!&nbsp;</p><h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.&nbsp;</h3><p>No two days were the same really. I usually woke up around 6:30 a.m. and started my day by going to the gym in my accommodation, or if the weather was good, I would go for a run outside. I would get to work around 9:30 a.m. and the work varied every day. I worked as a project management intern, so I was handling various projects which was exciting. The days would vary between speaking to clients, doing internal and external presentations, and discussing project updates with the team to ensure everything was running smoothly.</p><p>This is where the graduate internship program really helped, as I was given a lot more responsibility than I was expecting&mdash;in a good way! I also had weekly meetings with my supervisor, and we would go through the tasks that we had done for the past week. He then set up new tasks for the week ahead and provided helpful feedback on areas I could improve on. In the evenings, I would either go out with my friends or colleagues for dinner or stay at home and cook dinner with my flatmates.&nbsp;</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>I travelled a lot when I had free time, especially during the weekends! Also, I love canoeing so I found a great club in Canary Wharf in East London. I would try and go canoeing during the weekends if I was in London.&nbsp;</p><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3><p>I stayed at a private student accommodation, which Capital Placement helped me find. I had my own room with a bathroom. It&rsquo;s a newly-built accommodation and I was sharing the flat with six others from different countries. This really helped me settle in and meet people in London.&nbsp;</p><h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?&nbsp;</h3><p>I don&rsquo;t think there is one thing participants should know&mdash;there are many, including about waiting until the last minute before submitting an application to intern abroad. This was one of the mistakes I made, as I was a little underprepared when it came time to move to London. I would highly recommend that participants plan at least four months in advance if you are thinking about going abroad. Also, speak to the providers about the cost and what&rsquo;s included.</p><p>Most importantly, ask the providers what is not included in the fee and how much each of those would cost. In my research, I quickly found out there were many other providers who have hidden fees, such as visa sponsorship fees that you have to pay in addition to the program fee. Once you have all the information about the fees, what is included and what is not, you can come up with the total cost and see if it is financially feasible for you. Interning abroad does not have to be very expensive, but it can end up being that way if you do not do your research properly, as some of my friends found out the hard way.&nbsp;</p><h3>Would you recommend <a href="https://www.goabroad.com/providers/capital-placement-1" title="" data-contentlink="79010">Capital Placement</a> to others? Why?&nbsp;</h3><p>Building on my last answer, I would happily recommend Capital Placement to anyone considering it. They provide an amazing service, and are honest and transparent throughout the whole process. In fact, they are one of the very few who proactively disclose what is not included in the program, which I really appreciated. It also gave me the opportunity to be immersed in a second language, and being in London and interacting with people from various backgrounds is an amazing experience. Almost everyone you meet speaks two or more languages. I&rsquo;d say I am now more open-minded and culture-sensitive than before I came to England.&nbsp;</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?&nbsp;</h3><p>I am not at home, not yet. I managed to get a full-time job offer from Huawei in the UK as a Junior Project Manager. I have been exposed to working with some large telecommunications clients. The internship definitely had a much bigger impact in my life than I expected!&nbsp;</p><h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?&nbsp;</h3><p>It is about learning more about yourself and making the best of the opportunities presented to you, such as seeing different cultures, exploring different places, and making new friends! Having those memories and experiences is what makes travel meaningful to me.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>I wanted to experience theatre and art in a different country and I have always been interested in travel. London is filled with tons of art, music, theatre and history for me to learn from and continue to use in my artistic endeavors. Plus, a lot of it was free or really cheap for students, which was amazing.&nbsp;</p><h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?&nbsp;</h3><p>My arts admin professor. He guided me through personal projects and talked to me about his experiences as a playwright, a director, and theatre artist and really guided me into making the career decisions that I have since coming home. Having such a strong connection with the people teaching me really made my time in London incredible when it would have been really easy for them to just give me assignments and move on; however, they were all very caring and invested in my education and experience there.&nbsp;</p><h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?&nbsp;</h3><p>They were incredible! They supported me through doing personal projects, seeing a lot of theatre, and going to great artistic places&mdash;and even through losing my phone at a concert. I couldn't have asked for better support! I was never scared to ask for help with the staff there and they were always willing to go the extra mile.&nbsp;</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>I wish I would have made more friends who lived in London that I could have kept in contact with, but I still adore my American friends who were a part of the program with me.&nbsp;</p><h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.&nbsp;</h3><p>Typically I would spend my day going to classes and my internship, then getting food and exploring part of the city with my classmates or roommates. I would also often make dinner with my roommates or go out with them for food. I also found myself staying at CAPA a bit later and talking to professors, staff, and other students about what we were learning, classes, and places to go in London.&nbsp;</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>Seeing theatre, art exhibits, and going to concerts. As a theatre major it was really important for me to take in as much art as humanly possible and even though I spent every waking moment looking for things to do (and was always at some sort of show or exhibit), I was always looking for more.&nbsp;</p><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3><p>I lived in a flat with two roommates and I really loved that everyone in the building was a CAPA student. I would recommend trying to get to know the people in London and making friends that already live in the city. The few that I did make really helped me find places in London that I would have never looked at otherwise, and they were often some of my favorite places.&nbsp;</p><h3>Would you recommend <a href="https://www.goabroad.com/providers/capa-the-global-education-network" title="" data-contentlink="78637">CAPA The Global Education Network</a> to others? Why?&nbsp;</h3><p>Yes! Their internship program was amazing and my placement was wonderful. I also think CAPA really cares about their students and that's always a good feeling when you're going to be living in a foreign country.&nbsp;</p><h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?&nbsp;</h3><p>The biggest benefit is learning how to adapt to other cultures and understanding how your home country is perceived by people on the outside. I knew there were going to be some stereotypes about me as an American, but I found that more than anything people in England weren't necessarily judgemental, but curious about such a huge country and what I thought about being in such a small country. I look at being American very differently now.</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?&nbsp;</h3><p>I really struggled with being an American in America after coming home, but now that the world feels a little smaller to me the idea of continuing my education or my career in another country is less scary and has really opened up my options for post graduation.&nbsp;</p><h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?&nbsp;</h3><p>Meaningful travel is more than just seeing landmarks and things like Big Ben or the London Eye. To me, it is understanding a culture that is not your own and taking away a lesson that can't be taught in a classroom.</p>

I really felt that I needed to experience and see more abroad, and had always had the desire to spend some time living abroad.</p><h3>Why did you choose Global Experience?</h3><p>I chose Global Experience because they could guarantee me an internship in my selected field.</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3><p>My favorite part about London was living in Central London with so much access to everything happening in the city.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad unique?</h3><p>Working in one of the leading broadcasting consultancies in the UK and having the chance to meet major spokespeople was pretty unique.</p><h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3><p>The local staff was there to offer help and advice whenever something came up that I didn't want to handle alone.</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</h3><p>I wish I had more days off from work, or perhaps a few half days scheduled where I had more opportunity to explore the city during the weeknights, as opposed to just the weekends. I would get in a quick workout at the gym facilities at my housing complex. I left around 8:00 a.m. for my internship that started at 9:00 a.m. (sometimes 8:45 a.m.).</p><p>I worked on the media team, ringing and securing radio coverage for our client spokespeople and their radio campaigns. I also did various administrative work for the media team, assisted with research, and had a chance to work with social, marketing, and event coordinating.</p><p>My work day typically ended around 5:30 p.m.. I would sometimes grab a drink or two with coworkers after work and then go home for dinner and a relaxed night! I was really trying to feel as though I had really "done London," experiencing it for all it had to offer (which is a LOT)!</p><h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>My accommodation was dorm/student living which included a lot of the negative associations that you would expect about dorm life and shared living - but hey, we got through it! What I liked best about it was that my bedroom and bathroom were private and I could enjoy my privacy and have alone time when I wanted it.</p><h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3><p>Every participant should know that it isn't as scary as it seems to go to an unknown city and make it your own! Once you get out there you will flourish.</p><h3>What was the hardest part about doing an internship abroad?</h3><p>The hardest part about doing an internship abroad was finding the balance between work and play. There was sometimes a struggle trying to find the balance between working a full time job and getting enough sleep and rest, but also feeling like I was getting out and seeing enough of my new city.</p><h3>What surprised you most about London?</h3><p>What surprised me most about London was how busy/crowded it actually is. Part of it reminds me a bit of Los Angeles. It takes quite a bit of time to get around the city.</p><h3>What is one thing you wish you would have known before doing an internship abroad in the United Kingdom?</h3><p>One thing I wish I would have known before doing an internship abroad in the UK is how expensive the cost of living in London is. Learning how you handle situations, learning what you do and don't like, both about new places and about your career.</p><h3>Do you have any packing tips for individuals headed to London?</h3><p>Pack warm - but don't expect it to be overly cold. I packed lots and lots of sweaters, coats, jackets, pants, etc. that did come in handy but when April came around (I got there in January). I found myself not having enough lighter options.</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your program abroad impacted your life?</h3><p>Every time that I have spent a lengthy time away from home, especially abroad, I come back seeing and experiencing "home" differently. Living away from your norm and learning new culture really changes the way you see and feel about your country/city once you are back.</p><blockquote>You appreciate things you may not have before, and for me, my curiosity and willingness to say yes to change or new things has spiked!</blockquote><h3>Would you recommend going abroad to others? Why?</h3><p>Yes. I feel so, so strong about going and living abroad. You learn and grow as an individual in a way that you simply can't at home. You are pushed, you are challenged, you are tested, in the most positive of ways.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3><p>Ever since I started college, I had wanted to study abroad. It always seemed unattainable to me, for various reasons. Finally, in my final year at university, I decided to go for it. While it was stressful at times, I am so glad that I went for it and it truly changed my life. They came to visit, for a week in London.</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>Why did you choose Global Experiences?</h3><p>I was set up with Global Experiences through my Global Education program at Millersville University.</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3><p>I liked how diverse London was and how I was able to meet so many different people, from all walks of life, in such a short period of time.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad unique?</h3><p>I had the opportunity to intern with a charity that worked to educate young people on the importance of healthy relationships and prevalence of domestic violence. This was an area and population that I hadn't had experience with before, but it taught me a lot about the importance of prevention. The charity, Tender, was welcoming and the staff really made me feel valued and a part of their team.</p><h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3><figure class="awesome-image right-aligned" style="width: 50%;"><img style="" src="https://www.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto2-dicostanzo-1517297018.jpg" alt="Harrods of London"><figcaption class="caption"><p>London is a great place for shopping!</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><p>The local staff, such as Sarah Maddah my program advisor, were very helpful and always there whenever I needed something. They were sure to reach out and ensure that all the interns were safe and enjoying their time abroad.</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</h3><p>I wish I would have spent more time seeing the sights in the city. For many of the weekends, I went away to other cities or countries and feel I did not see as much of London as I would have liked. However, this is even more reason to go back!</p><h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.</h3><p>During the week, I would spend most of the day at my internship. My work there mostly consisted of secretarial work and assisting the other staff in completing certain tasks. During the evenings, I spent time with the other interns, either at our accommodation or exploring the nightlife of London. I was lucky that the accommodation site and my internship were within walking distance, so my commute was short and less stressful than taking the tube or bus.</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</h3><p>I enjoyed spending time with the other interns, exploring the night life of the city, trying all the interesting and diverse food options, and learning my way around the various forms of transportation.</p><figure class="awesome-image left-aligned" style="width: 50%;"><img style="" src="https://www.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto3-dicostanzo-1517297082.jpg" alt="View from The Shard, a skyscraper in London, England"><figcaption class="caption"><p>View from the Shard.</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>The accommodation was nice and I would describe it as a dorm style arrangement. The only thing I didn't like was the noise level and messiness of some of the other residents. However, I liked having my own space and had a overall pleasant experience.</p><h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3><p>They should know that while they will always be supported by their internship, the Global Experience staff, and other interns; it is important to remain independent and always advocate for yourself.</p><h3>What was the hardest part about doing an internship abroad?</h3><p>The hardest part for me was being away from family and friends and being in a whole new territory. This was the first time I had been away from my family for that length of time, and I admit I was a little scared. Of course, there were times when I had wished my parents were there to help me with a problem, studying abroad gave me the opportunity to advocate for myself and solve problems on my own. It allowed me to realize my own innate potential.</p><h3>What surprised you most about London?</h3><p>I was mostly surprised by how nice and approachable everyone was. If I got lost on the tube, for example, all I had to do was ask a passerby and within minutes I was well on my way to the correct destination. With London being so big, even people that have lived there for years get lost. So, people (most) are more than happy to help someone find their way.</p><h3>What is one thing you wish you would have known before doing an internship abroad in the United Kingdom?</h3><p>The exchange rate was really hard for me to adjust to. I would think something was really cheap, forgetting to take into account that my bank was charging me not only for using my card abroad, but also the cost of the item in U.S. dollars. If given the opportunity again, I would love to go to somewhere in Italy.</p><h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of doing an internship abroad is?</h3><p>Not only do you get experience for the field in which you want to work, you also gain immense intercultural experience and meet so many new people from different walks of life.</p><h3>Do you have any packing tips for individuals headed to London?</h3><p>I'm sure you've heard this one before but, roll your clothes! You can fit so much more in the suitcase when the clothes are rolled up rather than folded flat. Also, test pack a few times to ensure you have everything and it is within the weight limit for the perspective airline.</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your program abroad impacted your life?</h3><p>Now that I'm home, I want nothing more than to go back. The time abroad impacted my life in such a positive way and it is an experience I will never forget.</p><h3>Would you recommend Global Experiences to others? Why?</h3><p>Yes! Global Experiences and my university provided me with the tools to be more independent and succeed in my career path. I was able to further my studies, while also growing as an individual and becoming more confident and independent.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>During my junior year of college I had studied abroad in Australia and that experience made me get the travel bug. I knew I wanted to live abroad again, so I did some research and found Global Experiences. I thought doing an internship would be a great way to gain some career experience while getting to live in another country again. There really is no other experience quite like living in another country for an extended period of time. Plus, they seemed to have more variety when it came to psychology internships in comparison to other programs as well. That's when I decided to take the plunge and apply. GE contacted me right away, was super friendly from the very start, and was always there for me along every step of the way. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is thinking about doing an internship abroad! I choose the specific program of London because it has always been a city I wanted to visit, so I thought why just visit it when I could live there for a few months instead? As Samuel Johnson once said, "when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life" and I couldn't agree with him more. There is so much to do and so much to see. And around every corner there are beautiful, old buildings. London is just so unique and filled with so much history. I also love the diversity the city offers. When walking down the street you will find people from every corner of the globe that will keep you guessing where they're from, as you hear new accents and languages. Lastly, living in London makes traveling to other countries very easy. They are just a cheap train ride or flight away.</p><h3>What made your experience abroad unique?</h3><p>I think what made my experience abroad so unique was the other GE interns. I had a blast getting to know each and every one of the other people who also had internships through GE. They definitely made the trip one to remember. Plus, it is really nice living with the other interns as it makes you feel as though you have a support system while away from home. It can be scary at times leaving all your friends and family back home, and going far away where you can't get help from those you love as easily. So having them around makes you feel like you're not alone and that you always have someone to grab coffee or hang out with.</p><h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?&nbsp;</h3><p>Global Experiences does a great job to prepare you before you leave your home country. However, their help doesn't stop there. Once you arrive they have a location program coordinator onsite to assist you whenever needed. Our program coordinator, Sarah, was amazing! I loved going to GE events and outings just to see her. She was very knowledgeable, always willing to help you if you needed it, and was a very fun person to be around. She definitely played a part in me having a great experience with not only GE, but with living abroad in London as well!</p><figure class="awesome-image left-aligned" style="width: 50%;"><img style="" src="https://www.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto1-bartels-jpg-1516245534.jpg" alt="Internship in London"><figcaption class="caption"><p>Internship at Insight</p><p></p></figcaption></figure><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?&nbsp;</h3><p>One thing I wish I had done differently or had been more aware of is the pre-departure process. It was honestly one of the most stressful things ever. It felt very last minute and ended up costing a lot as you had to do priority everything to get your visa. It would have been better if GE could help you get an interview and your internship sooner than about a month before you leave. Then the process wouldn't be so bad.&nbsp;</p><h3><br></h3><h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.</h3><p>My internship started around 10 a.m. Monday-Friday. Typically I would wake up around 8am and get ready for work. Around 9:15 a.m. I would leave my accommodation to grab the tube and head to work. Once at work, I would do any of the various tasks asked of me. It would really just depend on the day and the clients on the schedule. If we had clients come into the office I would typically sit in on sessions or help facilitate it. We would also meet clients out over coffee sometimes as well. I even got to go to court hearing and sit in on a mental health assessment during my internship. My day would end usually around 5 p.m., but on Monday's and Wednesday's I would help run our gym sessions and leave work around 4 p.m.</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?&nbsp;</h3><p>During my free time, I would usually spend my time exploring the city. As I noted above, there is always something to do or something to see in London, as London is a massive city! I really enjoyed just walking around and exploring new areas I hadn't been to before. I also spent a lot of my free time and weekends traveling around Europe as well. When you are based in Europe, traveling around is so much easier and affordable than catching a flight from back home.&nbsp;</p><h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3><p>The London accommodation for GE was staying at Chapter Islington. Overall, it was okay. I did not love nor hate it. The location was nice and you are just outside of zone two so commuting isn't bad and the tube makes getting around London pretty easy. Be prepared to spend a lot of money abroad, especially in the city of London.</p><h3>Now that you're home, how has your program abroad impacted your life?</h3><p>My internship has impacted my life in more ways than one. I not only got to live in another country and immerse myself in a completely new culture, but I also got to apply my psychology degree at my internship and gained real life knowledge and skills. It is one thing to get an internship in your home country, but to do it in another country really pushes you to have to learn, adapt, and apply new information and/or ways of doing things that may be otherwise done differently back home. Further, I met some amazing people during my time abroad. My colleagues, the other GE interns, and various people I met while traveling have become some great friends over the months. I also love to travel, so it was such an amazing experience to be able to spend many weekends over the past few months exploring Europe.</p><h3>Would you recommend Global Experiences to others? Why?&nbsp;</h3><p>Yes, I would definitely recommend the program to anyone who is looking for an internship overseas. I can promise you that you will not regret it. It is a life changing experience that helps you grow in some many way as a person, and you will take the experience and carry it with you for the rest of your life!</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3><p>I have always had a passion for travel, exploring new places, and meeting new people. Ever since college, I've felt a huge sense of independence and discovery that I really wanted to harness and develop. I had several friends who went abroad a year before me and literally would not shut up about it, so I figured this was my opportunity. I tend to get bored doing the same things day to day, so I was inspired to try this completely new experience and throw myself way outside of my comfort zone to see how well I would be able to handle it. I thrived. I'm a journalism major at the University of Missouri, so it was kind of just a given that I would go through CAPA. However, I loved that they offered not only study abroad, but the opportunity to work in the country as well. I thought it was great that I would get the chance to experience the professional aspect of London as well as the academic and social side.<br></p><h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3><p>I just love all that London is. I love the people, the atmosphere, the hustle and bustle, literally everything. There is no stereotypical Londoner. Everyone there comes from such drastically different backgrounds yet makes up this city that felt like home. It was truly fascinating to see all the different people and experience living amongst them. It's also such a big city that you can never do everything in it. I tried so hard to get everything done on my bucket list, but then another thing would always pop up and the list would never end. I remember the day of the vote was also a day that it rained so hard that several Tube stations flooded and trains were cancelled; there was quite literally a panic in the city. My personal tube station, Embankment, was closed, so I walked further to another one, Temple. The tubes lost signal so we ended up slamming to a stop so hard that people quite literally fell over. It was pure chaos. I wish I could even come close to explaining the tension that was in the air; theoretically, because of the vote, but literally, because of this flooding that seemed to throw the entire city into havoc. That whole day was a blur. People thrust newspapers and "I'm in" stickers at me, clearly not knowing that I in fact didn't have a say in the matter.</p><p>The next day I was at the airport heading to Lisbon, Portugal really early in the morning. We were standing in the security line when the news came out that the UK decided to leave the EU. Cue more panic and people literally screaming. It was such a huge moment in history that I will never forget.</p><h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3><p>The CAPA staff was always at the front desk ready and eager to offer us recommendations or advice on travel, activities, places to eat, etc. They planned group events for us to get everyone involved and were all around very helpful. Additionally, our British professor was the greatest professor I've ever had and taught me so incredibly much.</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</h3><p>Honestly, nothing. I was really disciplined about squeezing the most out of every opportunity. From there I hopped on the tube and made my way either to the CAPA building or wherever we were meeting for class that day. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., our British professor taught us about British life and culture through field trips. After class we typically grabbed afternoon tea somewhere and explored the area we were already in, or sometimes we had to run to the airport for a flight to a different country for the weekend.</p><h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</h3><p>My favorite thing to do in my free time was explore. Literally just hop on the Tube, pick any old stop and get off there with no map or plan. Sometimes I'd go with my roommate, sometimes alone. Either way it was always more fun with fewer people. We would take our cameras and find quaint little corners of the city to pose with and get a feel for that particular area of town. Since the city's so big, it was incredibly easy to find somewhere new all the time. We loved trying new coffee or cake shops, peaking into boutiques, everything; that was my favorite part.</p><h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?</h3><p>We lived in Conway Hall right off Waterloo Station. It was sort of a mix between a dorm and a flat, but was incredibly modern and clean and easily accessible. They had everything we needed and the staff was very friendly. I liked it a lot.</p><h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3><p>It will feel overwhelming at first, being in a foreign country while taking classes, working, and traveling on the side. But, it is so so so worth it. I have a newfound appreciation for people who are drastically different from me and am genuinely curious about their story. I love learning from people I somehow have the opportunity of interacting with that I may never have the chance to see again.</p><blockquote>My time abroad showed me the importance of gaining a global perspective and understanding different cultures.</blockquote><h3>Would you recommend CAPA to others? Why?</h3><p>Yes! It was a great experience overall and gave me insight into several aspects of life in a foreign country. It was truly the best experience I've had and might ever have in my life. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?&nbsp;</h3><p>Traveling has always been something that I wanted to do. I love learning about other cultures and world history, so I always wanted to explore as much of the world as possible. Being in college has given me the opportunity to begin that journey and experience so many new places. It was advertised through the business school here, but I was able to participate because I have a business minor. We went to the information session together, and I thought it was an amazing opportunity to travel to a city that I have wanted to go to for some time now.</p><h3>What was your favorite part about London? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><p>London, and the UK more broadly, is an absolutely amazing place. I can't really pinpoint one particular thing that I love the most about it. London is such a huge city that I was able to spend two months there and still have items left on my to-do list. It's such a diverse city with so many cool neighborhoods and so much history that you can find things to do no matter what you are interested in.</p><p>Another great thing about London is how central it is to the rest of the UK and parts of Europe. The train system is so expansive that you can easily access so many places, and there are also a lot of airports in the London area that you won't have a problem finding cheap flights for a weekend destination.</p><h3>What made your experience interning abroad unique?&nbsp;</h3><p>My experience abroad was unique because I got the best of both worlds with exploring and working. As a second-year, I really wanted to get an internship for the summer, but I also wanted to travel. This program really allows you to do both at the same time, which I would say is pretty unique. I left the program with tangible work experience with an organization that is related to my major. BritishAmerican Business was kind enough to publish one of the articles that I wrote on their website, and I really couldn't ask for more from an employer.</p><figure class="awesome-image centered" style=""><img style="" src="http://cdn3.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto1-roudebush-1481015618.jpg" alt="Windsor Castle"><figcaption class="caption">Windsor Castle, UK</figcaption></figure><h3><br>How did local staff support you throughout your program?&nbsp;</h3><p>Madison was our resident director while in London and she was amazing. She stayed with us in the accommodations and was always available to chat, and she made sure to check-in with us on a weekly basis to make sure we were acclimating to London as well as our internships. Additionally, Madison was a great resource, since she has been in London for a few summers and she has been to so many places in Europe now that she always had a recommendation for a place to go eat or a hostel to stay in if you're going to another city. It was really great to have her coordinating our trip and being a friend as well.</p><h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><p>I wish that I had taken more opportunity to explore outside of London. I went to two other countries and roughly four other cities within the UK (yes, that was quite a bit of travelling), but I always wished that I had done more. London is just so huge that I wanted to spend a lot of weekends there as well. I don't really regret any of the choices that I made because I had an amazing time, but I think just travelling and exploring more would have made it even better.</p><h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.&nbsp;</h3><p>Here's how a typical day would go: Usually, I would wake up and get ready for work around 7 a.m. At 8 a.m., I would leave to go to work. I took the Tube (the Underground) to work every day and it was about an hour ride. The work day was from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour break for lunch. During the day I would have team meetings, work on various projects, and run the Twitter account. At 5 p.m. I would leave work and grab dinner to-go from somewhere close to work, or grab a drink with some of my co-workers. Then I would take the Tube to a park or area of the city where I could sit and eat and then walk around afterwards. Around 7 p.m., I would go back to my apartment and talk with my family, and then shower and head to bed!</p><figure class="awesome-image centered" style=""><img style="" src="http://cdn2.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto3-roudebush-1481015637.jpg" alt="St. Paul's Cathedral, London, England"><figcaption class="caption">St. Paul's Cathedral, London</figcaption></figure><h3><br>What did you enjoy doing in your free time? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><p>In my free time, I definitely did my fair share of exploring. Sometimes I would just take the Tube to an area of London that I hadn't been before and walk around for a few hours or the entire day. I also had a checklist of items that I wanted to do or see, so I would make sure to utilize time after work and on weekends to make sure that I saw as much as possible! Once I had been in London for a while, I didn't really feel too much like a tourist, so sometimes after work I would grab some drinks and some snacks and just head to one of the many parks in London and enjoy the evening with a book and people watch.</p><h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3><p>Our accommodation was a really nice place. The rooms provided all the necessities, including a mini kitchen as well as a small sitting area and a bathroom in the room. The view from the apartment building was really nice, the neighborhood of Shoreditch was a really cool area, and the Spitalfields market was right around the corner. Inside the apartment complex was laundry facilities, on the 32nd was a bar area with food and amazing views of London, and the 33rd floor had a study space/library area that was really nice for some quiet time.</p><p>My favorite part about the accommodation was the location. We were a three minute walk from Liverpool Street Station, which could get you anywhere in the city fairly quickly. And like I said before, Spitalfields and Shoreditch were really trendy neighborhoods with a lot of places to eat and plenty of unique shops/boutiques too.</p><h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3><p>One thing every participant should know prior to participating in the program is to always seize the opportunity. Several once-in-a-lifetime opportunities will present themselves for you while abroad, and I encourage you to say yes.</p><blockquote>Whether it is going somewhere with your co-workers after work, watching a tennis match, going to a pub with friends, or joining other participants on a trip somewhere, I encourage you to say yes, because some of the most memorable experiences that I have from my time in Europe include things I didn't originally plan on doing.</blockquote><figure class="awesome-image centered" style=""><img style="" src="http://cdn2.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto4-roudebush-1481015584.jpg" alt="Buildings at Oxford University"><figcaption class="caption">Oxford University, UK</figcaption></figure><h3><br>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><p>My time abroad has impacted my life by making me much more well-rounded culturally and professionally. They allowed me to go to conferences and panels on behalf of the organization, and that was an incredible feeling. They genuinely cared about my opinion and input that I could provide for them, so it was a really special experience. Living in London has also left a permanent place in my heart for the city. I miss everything about it and can't wait to go back!</p><h3>Would you recommend We Find Group&rsquo;s London program to others? Why?</h3><p>I would absolutely recommend this program to others because it was life-changing. Being able to life in another country for almost the entire summer allows you to gain a different perspective about the city and the world around you. In this program, you don't feel like a tourist whatsoever, and it really acclimates you to another place, but London isn't too different where you might feel a drastic culture shock.</p><p>Professionally, this program has also made my resume stand out against other candidates when applying for internships after the fact. I always get asked about living and working in London, so it definitely sets you apart!</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I have always wanted to go abroad but never had the opportunity. My original desire to go to London was because of One Direction and Harry Potter, but what really inspired me to go abroad was when my older sister went to Madrid the year before. The second she got back all she talked about was her trip. It was probably the most annoying thing but only because I was extremely jealous.</p>
<p>Hearing all her stories and seeing her incredible pictures made me want to have my own experience just like that. I wanted the chance to grow personally and professionally in another country where I could also gain more cultural knowledge. Going abroad would give me the opportunity to travel and see the world with my own eyes and not just through other people's pictures.</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>To be honest, everything about London was absolutely amazing! There are so many great places to see, and things to do in London. I love how you can easily just hop on the tube and get off a stop later and experience a different part of the city. I was there for two months and I still feel like I didn't get to explore all of London.</p>

<h3>What made your experience abroad unique?</h3>
<p>Besides the chance to explore London, I think my work experience made my experience even more unique. After my first few days at my internship, I was scared out of my mind and thought there was no way I was going to be happy here, even though I was in London. But my program director encouraged me to stay positive and stick it out.</p>
<p>Of course she was right. I ended up loving my internship. My coworkers were awesome and made my work experience ten times better. Their passion for what they were doing made me actually enjoy all the projects I had the opportunity to work on. Also, having the chance to travel with a group of your friends from your school made it even more awesome.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>Our program director actually traveled to London with us. She helped us prepare up until we actually went to London, and during our internship. We had weekly meetings with her to discuss our performance and how we were adjusting. Our program director was available for us whenever we needed and for whatever reason!</p>
<p>I ended up getting sick during my time in London and it was actually scary because I had no idea what to do, because I was in another country away from my parents. The process of going to a practitioner was actually so easy and they were so nice, but it was so helpful having the support from my program director to help me figure out where to seek a doctor and I couldn't have done it without her.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</h3>
<p>One thing I wish I would have done differently was use my time more efficiently. There were a lot of nights I stayed in because I was tired from working all day, but I really wish I would have forced myself to explore more of London. There was so much more that I wanted to see!</p>

<h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.</h3>
<p>I would take the tube every morning and get to work around 9 a.m. The tube during rush hour is absolutely insane. There are so many people trying to cram onto one train, so I usually left a little early so I could wait for the tube line that was always least crowded in order to get a seat. I worked from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. When I got home from work I usually would make dinner or meet up with the other students on our program to get dinner and drinks. After that we would all go find something new and exciting to go explore.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</h3>
<p>I loved traveling during my free time. I loved how in London you could travel to a completely different country in such a short amount of time, and for a reasonable price. One weekend, my roommate and I were able to take a train to Edinburgh, Scotland. I also loved going to parks and relaxing with friends after work. The parks in London are all beautiful and so nice to just relax and enjoy the scenery.</p>
<h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>The accommodations were very nice! I liked how not only were we in the same building with the students on our program, but we also got to meet other students from all over the world who were also doing internships and studying. I also loved the location of our accommodation. We lived in such a central location and right next to the Liverpool Station, which gave us easy access to so many tube lines. This allowed us to get to so many places in London.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3>
<p>When you first get to your country, it may be scary at first and will take some time to adjust. But don't let that scare you at all! You just have to get through that first week because I promise you it will be the best two months you'll experience!</p>

<p>Now that I am home, I know that I definitely miss working in London everyday! I have gained so many skills, and a lot of knowledge, and I know I have definitely grown over the past two months.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?&nbsp;</h3>
<p>In high school, I went to Spain for my junior spring break. I absolutely fell in love with traveling and seeing new places. I loved the culture and meeting new people. I promised myself I would find a way to get back to Europe once I was in college. In fall 2015, I studied abroad for four months in Nantes, France with the Bowling Green State University College of Business. My love and passion for traveling continued and a chance to intern in London found its way to me.</p>

<h3>Why did you choose the Intern in London program with We Find Group?</h3>
<p>I was living in Nantes, France and I happened to get an email from BGSU's Career Accelerator Office about an internship for summer 2016 in London or Madrid. I emailed We Find Group to find out more and applied. I was in France when the 2015 Paris attacks happened and at this point, I had not committed to the internship program yet. The CEO, Carlota, personally emailed me to see how I was doing. The rest of the team also reached out to me. In that moment, I knew I was in good hands and wanted to be a part of such an amazing organization.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about London?</h3>
<p>I loved the uniqueness of London. There is so much to do and it's easy to travel around from there. You will always find something new to explore in London!</p>

<p>The people. I didn't know anyone when I went on the trip. I made such great friends out of this and everyone got along really well! I loved my coworkers too! They made the experience so much more meaningful for me.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>We had a program director who lived in our accommodation with us, and another director who lived in the city. We had bi-weekly, if not weekly meetings with our in-house director. She was always willing to answer questions and talk whenever needed.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?&nbsp;</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I wish I could have seen more of London! Some days after work, I would stay in and I should have been out walking around and really taking in London for everything that it is.</p>
<h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.</h3>
<p>I had to be at work by 9 a.m. so my coworkers and I would take the underground (tube) at 8:15 a.m. Work went from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., then I would take the tube home. Some nights we would go out for drinks or to dinner, or I would head to the store to pick up groceries. I even got adventurous and went and visited some London sights.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</h3>
<p>Traveling! I am someone who loves to see new places.</p>

<p>I loved the location. We were less than a five-minute walk from a tube station, which had access to the some of the airports. We were near a lot of restaurants, pubs, stores etc. the accommodation was safe and had amazing view of the city from the sky bar.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?&nbsp;</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Don't be afraid to take a chance like this. This is a great way to make friends, see the world and gain valuable knowledge!</p>
<h3>What was the hardest part about interning abroad?</h3>
<p>I had learn to take public transportation to and from work. Having the public transportation is awesome, but at times can be frustrating, especially when the underground line is down for a long period of time and you have to find another way to get to work.</p>
<h3>What surprised you most about London?</h3>
<p>How friendly people were. It's a big city and there's a lot of diversity, but people will talk to you and help you if you ask. Also, how easy it is to get around. There are a lot of airports and train stations in London, which makes traveling so easy.</p>
<h3>What is one thing you wish you would have known before interning abroad in the United Kingdom?</h3>
<p>How easy it was to travel around the United Kingdom. Two or four hours by train can get you pretty far, so you’re able to see a lot of cool places.</p>
<h3>If you could intern abroad again, where would you go?</h3>
<p>I would love to go back to London, but I think Edinburgh would be fun!</p>

<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of interning abroad is?</h3>
<p>Getting to work with a diversity of people. I worked with people from all over the world, which made me realize how small my world at home is. Also, independence. You have to learn to go places by yourself, because you don’t know many people, and someone can't always go to the grocery store or go to a museum with you.</p>
<h3>Do you have any packing tips for individuals headed to London?</h3>
<p></p>
<p>It really does rain a lot in London. Pack a raincoat and an umbrella. Rain boots are heavy, so if you can find a nice pair of leather boots, that's the way to go. It also doesn't get very warm, highs of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, except for maybe one week in summer, when it gets extremely warm.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your program abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>I have gone to a few interviews and when I mention I interned in London, the recruiters always ask me so many more questions.&nbsp;</p>

I am allowed to take a full class load when I cross the sea and explore the unknown world of London. London is simply in style. Pops of colors come from tall beautiful flowers growing out of window boxes. Colorful row houses stand tall on a long windy street. London is also home to a vast number of parks. From High Park to St. James Park, you can walk from tall city buildings into the peaceful world of nature in a matter of minutes. The Albright in London program offers a special semester program in London, England working with CAPA The Global Educational Network. I was able to pay my Albright tuition with a study abroad fee in exchange for spending a semester taking courses and participating in an amazing fashion internship. I was also able to take all my federal and Albright financial aid with me as I studied abroad.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">How supportive was the CAPA staff in London?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Daniel and Ezra were the front desk assistants at CAPA London. Every day when I walked in, I would get greeted with a friendly "hello" (British style, of course). As a student council member, I worked closely with Carla and Clair. We had weekly meetings, where we would discuss event plans and activities for the other CAPA students. I served as public relations person and my job was to advertise to the other CAPA students about our events. Carla and Clair were very engaging and helpful. At the end of the semester, the student council member brought Carla some flowers and we each received a personal thank you card from her.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">I wished I took advantage of the clubs at the local international university. They offer over 50+ clubs, ranging from sports to arts to humanities. I was originally interested in their fashion, modern dance, and choir clubs. One day, after a CAPA event, my friends and I went to see the campus and visit. It was very spacey and colorful. Then, I was off to classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The CAPA office was about 45 minutes away from my homestay, via the underground. During lunchtime, I usually ate in a little caf&eacute;<i> </i>or I brought food from my homestay. After afternoon classes, I usually headed back to my homestay to find out what my housemate and friends had planned for the evening or weekend.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">On Mondays and Fridays, I was at my fashion Internship from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. That tube ride was longer than my normal 45-minute commute. On those days, I had to wake up extra early to get ready for my busy day.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Most of my free time was spent going to fashion events in the city or exploring the city with friends. We went to some of London's park and carnivals. Londo has a lot of free and low-cost events for students to participate in. Piccadilly Circus is a like a bigger and older version of New York's Times Square. It has shops, restaurants, and pubs for Londoners and tourist to enjoy. On my fall break, I had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, Pisa, and Cinque Terre. CAPA provided us with several trips, including a trip to Bath and Paris.<b><br></b></span></p><h3><span class="s1">What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">I lived in a homestay with a Turkish family. There was a mother and twin girls living in the house when I came. I later met the father and my American housemate. What I liked the best about the house was that I was on the first floor with my own bathroom, and I was very close to the kitchen. British houses are small and compacted. Unlike most American homes, British families do not own or use a clothing dryer. The washed clothes are either hung outside in the summer and on the heaters in the winter. My room was a good size and it came with a closet, dresser, mirror, a rug, and two twin beds. In homestays, students do not have to share bedrooms.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What is one thing every participant should know before joining CAPA The Global Education Network abroad?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">CAPA is global; CAPA offer programs in London, Dublin, Buenos Aires, Florence, Shanghai, and Sydney. Students should know that they can capture the world with CAPA. CAPA is very helpful and informative when it comes to studying abroad. They have been global leaders in studying abroad since 1972. The three and half months that I spend in the UK (and traveling) helped me see the world. It helped me checked off cities on my bucket list, meet new people, and become a citizen of the world. London really is the perfect mix of past and present, and its reputation for being a business capital really attracted me there to intern.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What sets CAPA The Global Education Network apart from other study and internship programs abroad?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">CAPA is unique because of how much they genuinely care about providing students with a holistic study abroad experience. All the advisors I work with before going, when I was there, and since returning have been so helpful and encouraging.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Furthermore, during my time in London, CAPA provided me with an incredible internship, three great academic courses that I learned a lot from and brought back with me to America, and many trips around the city that I could always look forward to and enjoy. They also really cared about making sure if we wanted to travel we knew what to do and gave us advice on where to go. Their travel fair was super helpful! I also really appreciated the unlimited Zones 1&amp;2 Tube pass they provide with the program. I loved that the staff at the front desk and my professors could give me recommendations for their favorite places around the city to eat at (or just to enjoy and visit)!</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">I think I did the best I could, traveling half of my weekends and staying in London the other half. At the same time, I had a gap of free time in between my two classes on Tuesdays and I always just went for lunch, but I wish I used those hours to explore more of London. It would have been nice to visit a museum or take the Tube somewhere new!</span></p><h3><span class="s1">How was your program organized?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A typical Monday/Wednesday would consist of me waking up at 8 a.m., getting on the Tube by 8:30 a.m., and interning a full nine-to-five day, with a one-hour break for lunch at my internship site with my team. While interning, I would either have a list of tasks to complete from the previous day I worked, or I'd enjoy sitting with my supervisor to find out what I could do to assist the finance teams' financial operations functions. Every day was a bit different with what I was doing and that's honestly what I loved about it. I never got handed a task I didn't understand. My team was very helpful in making sure I knew about the full operation and how my responsibilities fit into that.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would be in class from 9:30 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. I enjoyed my global supply chains class the best, which counted towards my business major.</span></p><div class="awesome-image left-aligned" style="width: 340px;"><img style="" src="http://cdn2.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto4-esposito-1461663513.png" alt="







CAPA Center in London, England"><div class="caption"><p>My walk into the CAPA center!</p></div></div><h3><span class="s1">What was your favorite aspect of your program, apart from the actual school and internship work?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Outside of my normal day-to-day schedule, I loved the various activities CAPA put on for us. At the beginning, we had a traditional afternoon tea after our orientation sessions, which was awesome! They taught us all about the significance of the tradition in England. I also love Curry Night, which CAPA did for us twice during the semester. They bring us all to a curry restaurant in the city and we learned a lot about that traditional as well. It was delicious and I enjoyed how much they taught us about how popular curry is in London.</span></p><h3><span class="s1">What kind of accommodation did you have in London?</span></h3><p class="p1"><span class="s1">I was not in CAPA's housing. I had a flat in Bloomsbury through Acorn Housing, which was specific to my school. I loved the location! We were a street away from the British Museum and a quick commute both to my internship and to the CAPA center!</span></p><h3><span class="s1">How has your time with CAPA The Global Education Network in London impacted your life at home?</span></h3><p>

















































</p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">My internship really impacted my career goals. I've gained a new interest in supply chain from the course I took abroad, but my internship opened my eyes up to accounting systems in the hospitality industry. I'm looking into career opportunities in that industry in the US now!</span></p>

There is so much to do in London, you could never possibly do it all. Every borough you go to feels like you're almost in a different country with a culture of its own.</div><h3>What made interning with IES Internships in London unique? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><div>I think what makes my program unique is how hard the staff worked to help offer us participants to see many things inside London, as well as outside London.</div><h3>What surprised you most about London?</h3><div>What surprised me most about London was how generally friendly (mostly everyone) was and how willing people were to strike up a conversation with a stranger on the tube or on the bus.</div><h3>How else did local staff support you throughout your program? <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><div>The local staff helped support me by offering advice on places to go, things to do, as well as how to deal with things like feeling homesick. They also personally helped me deal with filing an health insurance claim when I had to visit a doctor while abroad. Further, a lot of them had studied abroad as well, so they were knowledgeable about most things that we were going through or would go through, and offered good advice and insight on how to deal with it.<br><br></div><div class="awesome-image left-aligned" style="width: 375px;"><img style="" src="http://cdn1.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto3-hoover-1447396548.gif" alt="National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square, London"><div class="caption"><p>National Portrait Gallery on the edge of Trafalgar Square</p></div></div><h3>What's one thing you wish you could change about your program experience?</h3><div>In the beginning of my program I felt pretty homesick and stayed in quite a few days that I wish I had gone out and explored and at least seen some sights.</div><h3>What was the hardest part about interning abroad for you?</h3><div>For me the hardest part about interning abroad was being so far away from my family, in a different country by myself for the first time.</div><h3>Describe a day in the life of your internship. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">	</span></h3><div>A day in the life during my program typically consisted of me catching the Tube (underground subway) to my internship and working from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., which consisted of helping around the office with administrative stuff, talking, helping, and supporting clients with things, and sometimes going on outings with clients. After work I would either catch the Tube back to my accommodation or meet friends out for dinner or a theatre performance somewhere. Then I would make my way back to my apartment for work again the next day.</div><div class="awesome-image right-aligned" style="width: 300px;"><img style="" src="http://cdn2.goabroad.com/images/interviews/interviewphoto2-hoover-1447396589.gif" alt="A view of London at night"><div class="caption"><p>View from my room at night</p></div></div><h3>What was your favorite thing to do outside of your internship placement?</h3><div>In general, I loved sightseeing everything I could. Every weekend I would find somewhere to go and something to do, often on a spur of the moment, and it always ended up being a fun adventure.</div><h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3><div>I had student accommodations that were similar to dorm rooms. I had a roommate and we shared an open room and private bathroom. On our floor we had a community kitchen with our own personal fridge and freezer space. I liked how nice and well maintained it was.</div><h3>Do you have any packing tips for individuals headed to London?</h3><div>To anyone traveling abroad to the UK, I would suggest looking up the weather forecast for the time you will be there or what the past weather conditions were for the last few years around that time. It really does rain there quite a lot.</div><h3>What is one thing you wish you would have known before interning abroad in the UK?</h3><div>One thing I wish I had known before going to the UK was how much more expensive things were, particularly in London. I feel that it has also driven me to want to travel abroad more and soon.</div><h3>Would you recommend IES Internships to other people?</h3><div>I would recommend IES Internships to other people because they are good at sticking with you throughout your whole experience. They are there from the beginning of your application processes through your completed time abroad.</div><h3>If you could intern abroad again, where would you go?</h3><div>I think if I were to intern abroad again, I would like to travel to Ireland or Scotland.</div>
