Taking a gap year with Go Abroad China was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I spent the first few months learning Mandarin at a local university, and the rest interning with a startup in Beijing. The experience gave me both academic enrichment and professional development—all in one unforgettable year. The cultural exposure was incredible—from learning calligraphy to celebrating Chinese festivals with new friends. I also built lifelong connections with people from all over the world. This program helped me grow in confidence, independence, and perspective. I’m returning home with valuable language skills and real-world experience that will give me an edge in college and beyond.

I joined the GAC Gap Year Learn Chinese & Internship Program with the hope of gaining new experiences—and I ended up gaining so much more. During the first half, I studied Mandarin at a top Chinese university. The classes were immersive, interactive, and surprisingly fun. I could see my improvement every week, especially with the extra support from local tutors and the chance to practice outside the classroom. Then came the internship. I was matched with a startup in Beijing, and I was trusted with real responsibilities—marketing research, helping with project planning, even joining meetings. It boosted my confidence, taught me how to adapt to different work styles, and gave me clarity on what I want to study at university. Between the cultural excursions, language exchange meetups, and new friends I made from all over the world, this gap year gave me not just experiences, but direction and purpose. I’d 100% recommend it to anyone who’s unsure what to do next—you’ll come out with more clarity, skills, and memories than you can imagine.
