I guess i want to move to China from Ireland

After finishing school in Ireland, I didn't want to just travel — I wanted to do something meaningful. GAC's gap year program in Shanghai was perfect. I interned at a marketing agency in the mornings and studied Mandarin at Fudan University in the afternoons. The team arranged everything — my internship, classes, shared apartment, and weekend trips. I came back with real work experience, improved Chinese, and a clear direction for my future. Highly recommend.

After finishing school in Denmark, I wanted something meaningful before university. GAC's gap year program in Beijing was perfect. I interned at a consulting firm in the mornings and studied Mandarin at BLCU in the afternoons. The team arranged everything – my internship, classes, shared apartment, and even weekend trips to the Great Wall and Xi'an. I came back with real work experience, improved Chinese, and a clear direction for my future. Best decision I ever made. If I get to do it again, I will certainly go with GAC's program.

Finished uni in Sydney and had no idea what to do next. I didn't want a normal gap year of just backpacking — I wanted something that would actually help my future. GAC's gap year program was perfect. I spent 6 months in Beijing: interned at a marketing agency in the mornings, studied Mandarin at BLCU in the afternoons, and explored China on weekends. The team arranged everything — my internship, classes, shared apartment with other interns, even weekend trips to the Great Wall and Xi'an. My Mandarin went from zero to holding conversations. My internship gave me real experience I still use in interviews. And the friends I made are from all over the world. If you're Australian and thinking about a gap year, skip the usual backpacking route. Do something that builds your future. This was the best decision I ever made.

thanks from everyone

Internship + Chinese study changed my life

I wanted a gap year that actually meant something, not just backpacking. This program gave me structure and purpose. I studied at Fudan University in Shanghai while interning at a finance firm. My Mandarin improved so much I could hold business meetings by month four. The support team was incredible — always there when I needed help. Now I'm working in international trade, and this experience is on every interview list. Worth every penny.

Best gap year decision I ever made

Finished uni in Swiss and had no clue what to do next. Found GAC's gap year program and figured why not. Spent 4 months in Beijing—interned at a marketing startup in the mornings, took Mandarin classes in the afternoons, and explored the city on weekends. The team found me a shared apartment with other international interns, so I never felt alone. Made friends from all over the world. My Mandarin went from zero to ordering food, bargaining at markets, and actually having conversations. Came back with real work experience, a global network, and way more confidence. Now applying for jobs in international business. If you're stuck after graduation, do this.

I left Melbourne with literally zero plans and said why not give this a shot? My host family in Haidian turned out to be amazing—my host mum made me breakfast every morning and always helped me with my Mandarin which i really felt like a home. The PKU campus oh come on it was Huge and honestly beautiful. Classes kept me on my toes, but I actually enjoyed them. On weekends, I'd go to hutongs or head out to the Great Wall with friends I’d just met from all over the world like I was really amazed and By the third month, I could bargain at the markets and even hold real conversations with my host brother. I came back way more confident and now I want to go to China for job.

This program is the definitive model for a purposeful gap year.

January 03, 2026by: Niklas Berg - Australia

This program is the definitive model for a purposeful gap year. It masterfully interweaves professional development with profound cultural and language acquisition. My marketing internship in Shanghai provided hands-on, resume-building experience, while evening Mandarin classes transformed my ability to connect and navigate life in China. GAC’s support system—handling logistics, housing, and professional networking—provided the stability to fully embrace both the challenges and adventures. I explored from ancient towns to megacities, building a global network and a clarified career vision. It was the most strategically valuable and personally enriching year I could have imagined.

This gap year program is a masterclass in integrated development.

December 27, 2025by: Leila Costa - United States

This gap year program is a masterclass in integrated development. It doesn't merely offer parallel tracks of work and study—it engineers their convergence. My internship at a Shanghai media firm provided practical, portfolio-grade experience in digital strategy, while my tailored Mandarin course at a local university gave me the tools to navigate professional and personal landscapes with growing confidence. The program’s structure was its genius: providing the stability of curated housing, visa support, and professional placement, while empowering the autonomy for spontaneous exploration—be it a weekend trip to a water town or a deep dive into Shanghai’s underground art scene. I returned not with a vague sense of adventure, but with a clarified vision, tangible skills, and a global network. It was the most strategically valuable year of my life.

This gap year program is the definitive answer to the question of how

December 21, 2025by: Zara Al-Mansoori - United Arab Emirates

This gap year program is the definitive answer to the question of how to build a global foundation. It masterfully interlaces professional ambition with profound cultural acquisition. My internship at a Shanghai design firm provided concrete, portfolio-worthy experience, while my evening Mandarin classes at a local university transformed the city from a daunting metropolis into a navigable, intimate space. The GAC framework provided the crucial stability—logistical, professional, and social—that empowered true exploration and risk-taking. I didn't just spend a year in China; I constructed a launchpad there, returning with a robust skill set, a refined worldview, and a network that spans continents. It was the most strategically valuable year of my life.

My gap year was a masterclass in synthesis

December 11, 2025by: Ben Carter - Canada

My gap year was a masterclass in synthesis. The program brilliantly fused the concrete trajectory of a corporate internship in Shenzhen with the organic, unfolding journey of language acquisition. My professional confidence grew in tandem with my ability to navigate a conversation—and a city. GAC provided the crucial infrastructure (visa, housing, a professional network) that empowered true exploration, both in the office and beyond it. This year taught me that the most valuable skills are often found at the intersection of disciplines: the patience learned in a Mandarin class directly informed a complex project at work. It was the most strategic and soulful year of my life.

This program is the blueprint for a purposeful gap year. It masterfully interweaves professional ambition with profound cultural immersion. My marketing internship in Hangzhou provided tangible, resume-altering experience, while my evening Mandarin classes turned daily life into a practicum. The structure provided direction, but the freedom allowed for serendipity—like a weekend trip that led to volunteering at a community garden. I didn't just spend a year in China; I built a foundation there, leaving with skills, clarity, and a global network that continues to open doors.

My gap year in China unfolded like a beautifully composed symphony

November 22, 2025by: Isabella Rossi - Austria

My gap year in China unfolded like a beautifully composed symphony—each movement perfectly balancing professional growth with cultural discovery. Mornings were spent interning at a Shanghai design firm where I contributed to international campaigns, while evenings found me in Mandarin classes where business vocabulary suddenly became relevant. The program's genius lies in its integration: my internship supervisor became my language practice partner, and weekend hiking trips doubled as cultural exchanges with local university students. From presenting to clients in flawless Mandarin to navigating ancient water towns with new friends, every experience felt interconnected. GAC provided the framework, but China provided the magic—transforming what could have been a simple gap year into the foundation of my global career.

My gap year was a masterclass in balancing ambition and adaptation.

My gap year was a masterclass in balancing ambition and adaptation. Interning at a green tech startup in Chengdu by day and studying Mandarin by night, I learned to pivot between boardroom polish and bustling street markets with ease. The program’s structure gave me just enough guidance to feel secure while leaving room for spontaneous adventures—like hitchhiking to remote villages or joining a local hiking club. I returned home not just with language skills and work experience, but with the quiet confidence that comes from building a life from scratch in a new world.
